I get why schools play these games and it makes 100% sense.
But they are usually so boring. At least this is later in the season and not as hot.
It's a blowout but can't even really get excited because it doesn't really mean much.
I guess with a great tailgate before and after (or during?) would make it a good day.
That said, if not for Scouts, I'd probably be bringing the kids again. They don't know what a 1-AA team means. They'll think we're the #1 team in the country with how we'll play.

Competitive vs Michigan? The casual fan saw we got blown out. That will kill attendance against a glorified high school team. We will be lucky to get 35k in the stadium. I go to every game but really not looking forward to this waste of time. The tailgate is the only reason to attend.

I don’t understand how anyone could not be looking forward to going to the football game.
We have six home games, which leaves 359 other days of the year I do something else
Throw in some expected a good weather and the usual solid tailgate scene, and I’m looking forward to seeing us blowing their doors off and continuing the climb up

Halfway through the Va Tech game, my wife (who was watching with me) said, "Where are all the fans? The stadium looks just about empty." And we were leading .. before putting up a few more scores against a P5 team.
There will be about 15 minutes during the Wagner game where it will look like people are in the stadium. I'd say: the second quarter. Outside of that, this will look horrible on tv. But, we will get to see our offense light it up for the 1st half. And, it will be an opportunity for our 2nd-teamers to get some good reps in the 2nd half.

Good weather, I’ll go with 40k in the stands. It’ll be an announced sellout and there will be thread started after the game complaining about it. Probably by the crazy guy who is stalking @AreYouNUTS.

JDS, we have 7 home games, but you are absolutely right. If there is no conflict and you’re a fan you should be there.
I think our fan base needs to grow.
I also think Schiano and company might have to carry the RU Faithful a couple rounds. At least until they buy in again like 07.
Winning cures a lot of problems. Attendance is one of them.
Wife & I-have been to every B1G stadium except Purdue, massive amounts of students leaving happen nearly everywhere
The football fans that didn’t watch the game and only saw the final score. I had a bunch of friends that texted me “same old Rutgers”. After we scored on the 3rd play and not again, it’s hard to refute that even though I can see progress.
The average college football fan doesn’t look at a final score of 31–7, and consider it a “blowout” in any way, shape or form. I’m sure most people who even thought about going to the game against Wagner paying attention to yesterday know it was a tight game midway through the mid third quarter. People may not show up because it might rain and it’s a game against freaking Wagner. Not because they thought yesterday was a blowout (IMHO).
We actually have 7 home games so I assume even you are not including this “practice” game as a home game. Unlike most here it seems, I prefer to play a real team. Not a patsy. This is like a buy week with a tailgate. I’ll enjoy the day and tailgate but sounds like the weather would be better for a round of golf.

Considering where we've been as a program the last 10 years, our attendance is fine. I won't blame anyone for skipping what will be a glorified scrimmage on Saturday.
On this topic, the last couple of years I've been pleasantly surprised by our fanbase. Football at BC last year. Basketball vs MSU at MSG. The Northwestern game this season. We're making positive strides.

Ugh! We will not be in 128 for this game. My daughter goes to Kutztown and this week is their Family Weekend. We will be tailgating with a bunch of KU Diehards, and looking forward to the experienc, although will miss being at RU big time. Tailgating is always fun regardless where you are, but the game experience is still what I love more. Hopefully I will find folks to take my tix so they will represent in our absence.
We will have exactly what we had for first 3 games. We didn’t play any big name teams so there was virtually no walk up crowd. This is where we are right now. Win 6,7 or 8 games and look good in a bowl and next year we sell more season tickets

The sellout is only 54k and BS. Tickets are sold…actually allocated to 3rd Party Resellers . Leftover unsold inventory at these Ticket 3rd parties comes back to Rutgers for credit. Not all sold.
Someday in the future we will sell all tickets on our own.
I’ll take football anyday over golf, but especially given we only have 7 (not 6) home games, vs ~6 months of golf weather
For a team that hasn’t been bowl eligible (the real way) since 2014 there is nothing wrong with scheduling this game. If we’re going to play an FCS team, it may as well be one that can’t beat us on our worst day so that the play calling can truly be designed to give our kids game flow practice running plays they need to get more comfortable with.
Our staff has the OOC schedule just right aiming for one major conference game, the local rival game in Temple and a game against a weak FCS team.

Plus they are a very cheap buy. I think I remember last year that we only paid them about $425,000. That's very cheap. I believe New Mexico was $1.1 million.
Exactly - look I’m sure James Madison types are cheap too, but there is no upside whatsoever to playing better FCS teams. Have a bad day and you can lose. Program killer type losses. It’s not worth the risk. This Wagner game is exactly what we need. Especially since Wisconsin gets a real bye week.
Since the FCS game is a fact of life at this point (helps fund their athletic departments too) either play a local college or one we have a history with if possible. Villanova, Delaware, Wagner, URI, etc. It's already a basic bodybag game, don't make them travel too far to get blown out.
If we don't have an FCS game, schedule UMass or UConn.
Their devoted fan support impresses the top recruits though
Yup...it does...but RIGHT NOW we have to keep building OUR programs to make a change (and then, when Greg retires, not hand the reigns over to a clown followed by an incompetent fool).
