What is MLB doing with shifts and trying to use stats to gauge one's defensive ability?
I think the MLB has actually made significant advances in measuring defense. But really you need player tracking data and stuff like that if you want to do it with any accuracy in basketball. Traditional box score statistics aren’t completely useless but they are pretty close.

Good grief - these threads were understandable on our teams with 4-5+ guards averaging 20+ mpg. Like Tez in there over Caleb? JY over Paul? Debate who meshed best alongside Geo…. Whatever.

We don’t have depth at guard and Hyatt is not a guard. He’s not going to start there in Caleb’s place. Hyatt plays the 4 outside a few minutes here or there. Simpson comes into the game to help Paul with the ball handling when Caleb sits. At least 10 of Simpson’s 12 minutes were when Caleb sat with foul trouble. Hyatt is not going to play more than a few filler minutes here or there on the perimeter.

Another thread that should be deleted OMG....when the poster decides to do a defensive player review of Mulcahy and Spencer, wake me up from my nap...

We have 4 player averaging around 8PPG to 10 PPG. We are not getting significant change in results by increasing or reducing anyone's minutes on the offensive end but rest assured, Caleb is the most reliable man out of Spencer, Mag. Hyatt, Mulcahy and even Cliff.

You mean the analytics you see on MLB network showing how fast a player gets to the ball and what % of people make the play.

Is that data measured consistently over the entire population (of MLB players).

You most be watching Pac10 basketball if you need a nap at 1pm. Pac10 is one step up from the NBA.

I should have added this for you. All statcast data since they started few years ago. During games everything measured live so while I watch on TV I can have the game pulled up and check live data as it comes as a reference.

Caleb will sit more when his career at Rutgers is over.

His defense is vital to the team.
The irony is, we need his defense because of the lack of cohesive offense, which he is a main actor in.

If he weren’t so poor an offensive player we wouldn’t need his defense. Same as Myles Johnson, but not nearly as bad.

Who are the defensive stoppers on Iowa ? Can someone remind me ?

This - but how people don’t see that his ball handling is vital too is beyond me. He’s not a good ball handler and yes, he turns the ball over plenty. But he’s way better right than our other options not named Paul. Mag and Hyatt never dribble around the perimeter. That’s because when they had the green light, they used to turn it over every other possession. Paul can’t be the only guy to dribble and we want Cam shooting. Discussion should end there.
