----We are not near last in most rankings.
my mistake as I mentioned elsewhere rivals defaults to the 2016 class, which was last....sorry
----We are not near last in most rankings.
Be careful what you look at.I know we are excited about several of our incoming recruits, as we should be... but it
is a sobering moment when you see the table comparing our recruiting class
versus the rest of the big 10.....we are either last, or near to it
Hmm how about a DMV area that has a culture of being proud to go to Maryland? How about full state support? How about UA money that has the ability to make it a trendy school for recruits?
Maryland recruited well before Durkin and will after. Durkin has a lot more to work with compared to what Flood left us. Do you even follow sports?
------Total BS. Do you follow Sports ? Maryland has not recruited well in their Home state over the last 20 years.
The last 10 years their classes averaged only 1 or 2 Top 10 Maryland recruits every year (except in '08 and '09 when they got 3 under Fridge). Durkin now has 5 Top 10 Maryland recruits this year ..#13 Class nationally. We should be so fortunate with our Recruiting in State.
Easy to figure out. The current AD gave our beloved Eddie Jordan 3 years. Any body that thinks he has more that 4 years out of his 5 year contract is a buffon.

No, he is completing his first recruiting class. He has been here just over 1 year.
---------Wrong.
... stop making excuses for Ash. We made a lot of excuses for him last year. I get it that he did not inherit a strong roster. He changed the style of play on offense, etc. Is this the year we see major improvement? Do we have to wait until next year to judge him (2018)?
Hobbs have been Rutgers AD for three years?Easy to figure out. The current AD gave our beloved Eddie Jordan 3 years. Any body that thinks he has more that 4 years out of his 5 year contract is a buffon.

lol...... I guess I have to apologize a 3rd time in this thread for looking at the 2016 class.....here goes!

Even if he started 12/7, two months is not sufficient time to make a class yours. Can they affect the final class, yes they can. Ash did add a couple players to the class. Recruiting is about developing relationships with players. Two months is no where near enough time to establish much of a relationship. Bottom line, this 2017 class is his first class. He was hired on 12/7/2015, two full months before signing day. Of course, he didn't show up for work in Piscataway until after his bowl game with ND on 1/1/2016. It's his class. He had plenty of time to put his stamp on the '16 class by adding players he liked and pulling ships for players he didn't. And don't tell me you can't or shouldn't do the latter. We saw Harbaugh do it and we see Edsall doing it this year.
Durkin was hired because Edsall had poor results on the field. Ash was hired because Flood had poor results on the field and a real shitshow off the field creating a terrible perception of RU for recruits. It sure is his 2nd class. Who's else is it ? Durkin at Maryland was hired the same exact time. How did he do with his 1st class? How is Durkin doing this year ? Why do you think Ash trailed him last year and this year in recruiting ?
I won't compare Ash and his first 2 recruiting cycles to Meyer, D'Antonio, or Harbaugh, but I do think the comparison to Durkin is a fair one.

Harbaugh was hired in Dec 2014. The 2015 Michigan recruiting class finished 51st.

That may be true but not germane to my point. He did pull some ships and replace with someone he thought more suited for his style, no ?
You are helping to make my point. Two months is not enough time to consider the 2016 class to be Ash's recruiting class given the lack of time to establish relationships with players and all of the organizational stuff you listed.Yes - Ash was assessing the class - out making home visits, trying to re-secure certain recruits & as he got staff on board - they were out there.
Don't fall for the fallacious nonsense argument that an idle / leisurely approach was taken in December /January 2015 - it is fundamentally without merit - you could debate some points of choices that were made - but if you actually look at the reality
- it cannot be argued that 'nothing' was being done - when you truthfully acknowledge the facts of the hiring time line - and truthfully acknowledge the amount of consideration and preparation time that has to go into making each staff addition:
December 7 - Official hiring of Head Coach Chris Ash - Ohio State
December 9 - Special Teams Coordinator Vince Okruch - Ohio State
December 13 - Offensive Coordinator Drew Mehringer - Houston
December 18 - Head Strength & Conditioning Coach Kenny Parker – Ohio State
December 19 - Assistant Strength Coach Gary Beemer - Hawaii
December 22 - Offensive Line Coach A.J. Blazek - Western Illinois
December 24 - Wide Receivers Coach Zak Kuhr - James Madison
December 28 - Assistant Defensive Backs Coach Aaron Henry - Arkansas
December 29 - Defensive Backs Coach Bill Busch – Ohio State
December 30 - Defensive Coordinator Jay Niemann - Northern Illinois
December 31 - Defensive Line Coach Shane Burnham – Iowa State
December 31 - Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach –Luke Rose – U of Akron
January 3 - Dir of HS Relations – Rick Mantz - Passaic HS & former pres. New Jersey Football Coaches Association
January 4- Director of Recruiting - Adam Caltury – Ohio State
January 6- Director of Player Development - Nick Quartaro - North Texas
January 15 -Running Backs Coach – Jafir Williams – Purdue University
January 15 -Asst Strength & Conditioning - Justin Springer – Kansas University
Like any new staff - somethings worked - something did not - and somethings - well ... maybe they will click this year .

Precisely - but also - to say (and you were not - someone else was) that Ash's fulfillment of his obligation to OSU meant that he took anything in the way of a casual approach to the start of this job is totally wrong. You are helping to make my point.
