Leave it to Cohen to run one sport in the ground to pay for another sport that 90% of the NCAA doesn’t even try to be competitive and 99.5% of the US population could care less about.
That would be frustrating for sure. I didn't realize they sell vodka at the stadium now.
He has ultimate control in terms of he can fire the vendor… but what else could he do to fix the problem before next week?
I wish I could agree. I was disappointed in Scoreboard Club Saturday.
1. I couldn’t find a railing on the terrace area that wasn’t sticky from not being wiped down prior to the game. Seemed leftover from last year.
2. The lemonade, as stated, was out. Which isn’t a huge deal until you waste 3-4 shots of tequila or vodka expecting to mix with the lemonade. Once it’s discovered out, simply take the nozzle off that one or slap an out of order on it.
3. The crew seemed to be working hard to keep the buffet lines stocked, but when halftime hit, it’s like they had no idea there would be another run on the food lines.
4. The “grilled chicken” was obviously just a grade D chicken breast boiled in water. Nothing about it ever touched the grill.
5. One of the reasons I’ve always enjoyed club level are the TVs therein being on an array of different games. Every single one was set to ours. So at half time, when everyone was inside refueling, it was just a rotating MState logo on each tv. Instead of different games.
Overall, not terrible. But definitely a disappointment. And more evidence that the small things that used to not be over looked, continue to be.
I was told of an office job on campus, entry-levelish, that normally would have tons of applicants, and it has had 5 applicants.
From what I understand that’s not 5 desirable applicants, or 5 they interviewed, but 5 total applicants.

Been doing a little research this morning, Mississippi specific. My advice to all, don't expect this situation to get better anytime soon.
The entire US economy was stopped dead in its tracks. Millions of workers were sent home. Kids were sent home and still are because of quarantines and ****. Boomers have retired. High paying jobs (FedEx, Amazon, Tesla, Apple, etc) have boomed. Remote work now exists, so I can work a Bay area tech job from Calhoun City if I choose. Construction jobs have boomed. Thousands of dollars were sent to people, whether they needed it or not. My wife and her company are fighting like hell to hire and retain 6 figure employees. When mid to high level jobs open open up, they are filled by the lower levels of the economy.
Mississippi's current unemployment rate is 6.1%. It was 5.8% in February of 2020. Mississippi always has higher unemployment. It likely always will. There are 1.278 million members of what could make up the civilian labor force in Mississippi. Roughly 78,300 are currently unemployed. If the UE rate matched that of February 2020 before any of us ever imagined this would happen, there would be roughly 3800 more people working in all of Mississippi. That number doesn't move the needle. Maybe 1-2 of the 3800 would be working for Aramark at Mississippi State.
Below is the UE rate for Mississippi since 1976.

Mississippi is basically at its historic full employment. The lowest it’s ever been is 4.9%. To get to 4.8% you are only talking about 16,000 people going to work. There are currently 47,000 job openings in Mississippi on Indeed. This problem is not about lazy people not working. It's not about business owners trying to keep wages down and not paying a fair wage. It's about having too much economy and not enough skilled, capable, or willing workers.
I personally fall into category of the "unwilling." I do not have a "job." I have not since March of 2020. I worked for myself and paid myself a small salary from 2016-2020. Once covid hit, I cashed out. My main customer hired a full time employee to replace the work I was doing as a 1099 contractor. Wherever that guy came from someone moved up to his role. Eventually you get back to the line cook at McDonalds. There was a whole lot of this taking place in the past 16 months. This leaves the biggest gaps at the bottom of the cycle, because nobody is going to take a step back. We will have to wait for younger workers or immigrants to take those jobs and that will take years.

Very good summary. From talking to the business owners I work with, most mid to high level salaries have adjusted to what is going on. Lower wages have not really adjusted, meaning these businesses are essentially saying they refuse to pay more. I don’t know if that will work out or not. It seems they are playing a game of chicken with employees, who I guess have a had a safety net with the unemployment benefits. It’ll be interesting to see what happens. But there certainly does not seem to be an over abundance of people willing to work these minimum wage jobs anymore. At some point, wages either have to go up or people have to go out of business. The status quo does not seem sustainable. Going out to eat or ordering a pizza (or something similar) is a train wreck right now.
You ever notice that the same people bitching about the inconvenience of the labor shortage are the same people screaming at the people that actually show up to work because their hamburger took 8 minutes to make. That’s the reason people don’t want to work, because they don’t want to deal with crazy ******** who don’t know how to cope with disappointment.
Yeah, I am almost leaning to not increasing the wage too much as the right move.. I just don't think there is a number at this time. I would try to have more attractive work hours to steal employees from competitors. Everyone who is willing and able to work, is in most places. Where I am at now we are down to 2.9% UE for the entire state. Restaurants and fast food joints are advertising $20+ per hour as Zombie mentioned. It doesn't matter. Everyone is working already. There is no housing to draw in outside labor either. It's going to be a viscous couple of years. I'm investing in more home grilling equipment. Restaurants are getting awful pricey around here...
I'm not saying this isn't true because it depends on the department and the job... But I've been on five hiring committees for campus jobs over the last 24 or so months, including for three entry level jobs, and none of them had fewer than 30 applicants.
ETA - two of the entry level jobs were in the last year, so they take the covid reduction in the work force into account.

And they don’t wait in line. They skip everyone else because they are that important. I have always let it go because I don’t know the level of crazy I’m dealing with but lately it’s gotten so common I can no longer let bad behavior go unchecked. I’ve started saying something.
The kids wanted pizza one night a couple of weeks ago so I ordered it online from Papa Johns and it said it would take about 30 minutes for carry out. I noticed after about 25 minutes that the status hadn’t changed so I just figured they didn’t update the order and then I pull up and see there’s probably 10 people in the store waiting…not good. There’s two girls working the whole store with the phone just ringing nonstop because everyone else had quit and walked out at 4. She apologized and said it might be a few more minutes which I told her was totally understandable because of her situation but then this guy who had gotten there right before me waited a few more minutes and then just starts berating her for not having his pizzas ready on time and how ridiculously slow they were. He just kept going on and on about it.

They’re getting pricey not only because of wage increases but also their inputs are through the roof.
Already happened my friend. I warned him (I posted to him on sixpack) years ago that the fan base was slowly losing patience with the conditions we were dealing with on the West side. NOTHING has been done other than dropping the concession prices a few years ago. I get most of the people running concessions are volunteers and they mostly do a great job, but maybe it's time to hire some folks with more accountability? I don't know, but that's far from the only issue.
I know he doesn't listen to me, but he should. Winning would eliminate ALL of these issues, but we aren't doing that at a fast enough pace for that to happen. I know too many bulldog fans who used to attend every game who have given up on coming and its staggering.

One of the gameday guys in a golf cart came by our tailgate and said they had budget and need for 120 workers Saturday and had 40 show up. I don't know if that was concession, parking, or whatever. A few years ago when that big parking lot firm came to town to run the paid parking lots it was the same way, they couldn't hire anybody because there was no pool to hire from. It is a work ethic problem, it can't all be blamed on Covid by any stretch
I've yet to hear a single significant complaint from any of the club levels. TV and bigger donors are paying the bills. Look for total seating capacity to shrink with more premium seating (with lots more amenities and better service) to be added.
What happened to self improvement to make yourself more marketable and making higher income? I doubt very few who have been sitting on their *** the last year and half have done anything to increase their value to employers or society.
Yep, I would imagine the West Side will look a lot different after the next project.
Certainly seems to be a West Side vs. East Side deal. I'm glad I'm on the East Side. And weirdly enough, I enjoy the upper deck. I also thought a bonus was that I'd get to see Air Raid plays develop from up high, but FARRRRRT.
They did, which is why they aren't power washing bird **** off your seat or serving you a hard soft pretzel.
