At this pace, how long can we expect to keep Stein?

Pay him crazy money and become a football school! Might as well, Mark Pope already has Kentucky looking like the Indiana Hoosiers so why not copy them? I’d rather be a football school anyway. Pope has ruined it for me.
I believe we need to balance resources between both major sports like the rest of the SEC. Nothing more or less.

Bear Bryant left over the prioritization of basketball over football and left. I don't want to make that mistake again--especially if CWS turns out to be the real deal.

"Basketball eats first" won't cut it. Align resources to economy of scale. No special treatment. I do like how J Batt emphasized football revenue generation in his first interviews. We need to feed the studs.

Ok dad, you’re all knowing here on the page but here’s something most adults know……if I don’t like something or agree then I don’t have to comment. Just keep scrolling cool guy, and saves us from reading your stupidity.
When you play a stupid game and make stupid comments, you win stupid prizes…..enjoy the trophy “dude”. 😂
Yeah but sometimes a post is so ridiculous a person just can’t let it go . You should be proud.

Also, I’m thinking you’re too young to be married but you should probably try for an ugly wife. I’d hate for you to be constantly worrying about losing a pretty one .

Haha, y’all are living in fantasy land if you don’t think Stein would leave UK for a Texas, Michigan, Ohio St., type job!

NIL is the new sheriff in town, and if Calipari can get more BB NIL than UK at a place like Arkansas, then Stein would salivate at the prospect of getting the NIL backing of a program like those aforementioned 3 (and several others)!

Put another way… Would any of you stay in Cincinnati with the Reds, if the Yankees or Dodgers came calling? Absolutely NOT, you wouldn’t!
Michigan hired a Whittingham after being “encouraged” to retire from Utah and before that promoted one of their assistant coaches, Moore when Harbaugh left for the NFL. Ohio State promoted Day, who was assistant coach, when Meyer retired. Texas hired Sarkisian from Alabama when he was an assistant under Saban.

These days P4 coaches aren’t really champing at the bit to jump to other P4 jobs. Campbell left Iowa State to take the Penn State job, but when you look closer you realize that he’s from northeastern Ohio so taking the Penn State job would place him closer to where he’s from.

For the most part, Kiffin leaving Ole Miss for LSU is not really the norm these days. If coaches leave P4 jobs, a lot of times they’ll reason that they’re “moving closer to family”.

I think it's highly unlikely Stein leaves. NFL coaches get so little leash. Head coach one year, unemployed the next. Probably would take a historically Top 5 college program to pull Stein from UK and a contract offer with a huge check and lot of guarantees. Even at that, those types of programs would want to see Stein string together two or three really good years at UK before making that call.
Wrong - Stein is already on the short list of both NFL & NCAA teams looking for new Coach.
KY keeps him with a huge extension & guaranteed future.

Ky is 13th out of 16 in HC Football payroll.
8 SEC Coaches make more than twice what Stein makes.
KROGER FIELD seats 35 to 50,000 less fans than 9 SEC Stadiums.
Stein’s current buyout is very reasonable for a NFL Billionaire owner or a desperate Blue Blood with huge fan base.
THE REMEDY =
Give Coach Stein a raise & build a bigger Stadium.

Most D1 schools are "football schools" by nature based on resources allocated. I'm not a big fan of using terms like "football school" or "basketball school" because of the connotation of how administrators divy up resources.
Good lord! A successful football school competing for championships like we used to do in basketball but since we’re like the Indiana Hoosiers in basketball might as well pour all the money into football football is King anyway!

I think we get five years as long as we are financially competitive. Then, unless the nfl moves back to more power run game (offensive styles cycle through) then he will feel the need to test himself there.

The only caveat is if ben Johnson keeps excelling, the window might get tighter. Mcvays tree owns the nfl offensive scene but Johnson is doing things that might be changing some minds.
Many sharp minds are suspecting that Johnson is a fraud fwiw. Jury still out.

Ben Johnson resurrected the careers of both Goff and williams. Will he win a Superbowl? Maybe not, but he was putting up video game numbers until williams got hurt and doing it with the same roster that could barely score at all the year before.

Ill go one step further. The knock on offensive gurus like Johnson is they usually aren't great at running an organization. Same thing with mike martz back in the day and mcvay in his early years. However stein is showing really elite leadership and program building qualities. That is a unique combo that's getting lots of attention already.

I know you hate seeing the football team do well, but don't worry, basketball season is almost here. You can enjoy your echo chamber then.

I think some folks on here are getting a bit ahead of themselves. Yes, the start to this season has been awesome but it’s not out of the realm of possibilities that we finish the year going 1-5 or something and then people will be asking if Stein is the right hire. Let’s just enjoy it week-by-week.

I'm re-evaluating this question after another win. Last week I felt completely confident that Kentucky keeps Stein. Now Kentucky is being seriously talked about as a possible playoff team. Some top 5-10 programs might come knocking. Let's hope Stein's love of Kentucky wins out. I wish we had a Mark Cuban type as a Kentucky alumni who would immediately come in and contribute tens of millions of dollars to the program.

There is something to say for building your own program and taking them to the top though. He is from here, that helps. We have a decent payroll. It’s not like are operating on a Dodgers vs. Rays like payroll. We may be the Rays in that we only have a championship window every 4-5 years, but still.

The man has a historically cellar dwelling team bowl eligible before Halloween, and in legit contention for the national championship playoff. I mean, could be looking at the SEC title game this year. Give him a raise and extension now.

We could fill more seats with him, but it was his first gig. We paid Stoops top money, and we will now pay Stein more to stay as we should.

Amazing what Stein has gotten out of our talent and depth level. I have long felt that we could do so much better with the right coaching. The talent will come with winning, but it starts with coaching. Imagine this team with more talent and depth. We have been sold a bill of goods that Stoops was the best we can do for too long. I keep watching this team and thinking they look pedestrian at best. Minchey is laterally slow and short. Our defense lacks proper depth and speed in the secondary...I could go on. But Stein gets them to play disciplined and efficient. We don't beat ourselves. Coaching coaching coaching.

Texas, Bama, OSU, ND, UGA, LSU come calling it will be tough to keep him . The NFL maybe if he wants an easier but not as steady job . Say Texas is fed up with Sark after another hype train derail .... goes and strikes out on a few big names - offers job to Stein in Dec. You think Steins saying no? I would hope he would but I wouldnt bank on it . Im just gonna enjoy this ride while it's going and hope theres a culture shift where if he dies go we will just keep going forward.

Exactly how is that reactionary strategy gonna work out fella? We throw the NIL to the football team and Pope is out of here after this season. Then you go looking for a basketball coach....do you think there's gonna be a long list of TOP candidates lined up for a gig where the fanbase turned on one of their own after a S16 that began with an empty roster in April and a second round exit with huge injury issues both seasons? Against the toughest schedule in the country? And we stripped basketball NIL because our football team has won 6 whole games? So then what? Say you do convince a top coach to come here. Do you go back to Stein and say, sorry Bro, we have a basketball coach again? All this considering a pay raise and NIL bump likely won't stop Stein from going to the NFL if they come calling.

Basketball is its own profit center. It can support itself. Now if bball operates in the red, yes--and that's what football programs will do.
We are fortunate that our bball team brings in enough money, just saying. If we become elite in football we will get huge patch deals, and more overall revenue to put toward basketball rosters as well.
