So let's assume money is not an object. It is, of course, it always is. But if you wanted to go to very cool place with the wife for 5-6 days while the kiddos are out of town for spring break. Where would you recommend? Could be flight or drive but leaning against islands, beaches and hot weather....we'll save that for summer with whole family. Live in Central MS. I'm looking hard at Blackberry Farms, Banff or Whistler. Been to Banff and Whistler in the past tho and looking for something new. Won't be golfing or anything, but do like hiking and outdoor activities. Thoughts and recommendations?

Cactus League spring training, Phoenix area, if you like baseball. And plenty good hiking around there.

Go hang out in San Francisco and make the 3.5 hour drive over to Yosemite. I think that’s around when the waterfalls thaw and begin flowing again.

You can also visit Muir Woods where the redwoods are. Lots of trails and such. Or head to wine country. We’re going later in the year.

Vacations that we really enjoyed:

- Fly into Vegas and drive to multiple national parks (Grand Canyon, Arches, Zion, etc.). They weren't overly crowded when we went about 20 years ago. Unfortunately, I've heard horror stories about the crowds now.
- Fly into LA, drive the PCH to SF, and fly out of SF. You can plan on spending more time in the cities, or you can plan to spend more time around the places in between like Big Sur or Monterrey.
- Fly into Paris, then take the train to London

I’ve heard good things about Blackberry. The wife and I are looking at doing that the TN football game weekend.

My wife and I are going to Brevard, NC for some epic mountain biking sans kids for Spring Break. With trails @ Dupont, Pisgah, Kitsuma, etc...all near Asheville (i.e. breweries) makes for some amazing scenery.
West Virginia is really nice too.

All good thoughts. i forgot to add that i'm considering the Greenbriar also in White Sulphur Springs WV. Getting a cabin around Ashviille and riding the Blue Ridge is definitely an option we've thought about.

Take a hard look at Banff. For our 10th anniversary this summer, my wife and I are flying to Vancouver then taking the train through the Rockies to stay at Lake Louise in Banff. One of her friends went for the honeymoon and said it was awesome.

I'd do this or Blackberry Farms, but I come from a long line of cheap curmudgeons so I'll just wish y'all a great time.

If you want to do some something easy that's out west, consider Denver/Rocky Mountain National Park/Estes Park. You can do elk country a couple days and catch of Rockies games at some point.

No, you aren’t.

It’s already booked.
My wife has always wanted to go to BB Farm, so around our anniversary a year or so ago, I looked into it.

Have y’all actually looked at rooms there?

No thanks.

for ***** and giggles I looked at the dates for the weekend we play UT. Not available. But I looked at, Monday -Thursday. Cheapest room available, was almost $1400 per night, and that’s before all the other ********.
I can think of so many other places I could spend that money. Like Aspen...Etc. But hey, whatever floats your boat.

There's a new spinoff from Blackberry farms that sounds pretty cool if you are looking for a more active but still pampered experience. It's in the same general location here in the Smokies, but has hikes, bikes, yoga, etc. as part of the stay. Still super pampered, exceptional food and drink, top-notch experience. I have a number of students working there that rave about it.

Vancouver is my favorite place I've ever been, and I've been lucky enough to travel a lot for the work I do. It's like a squeaky clean, friendly San Fransisco, with wilderness literally on the edge of the city.

Again all outstanding suggestions. My original post was poorly worded. Money is always an issue for us all. This is just the first time since starting a family that’s we’ve had this opportunity....... I just want to do it right.

Vancouver is by far the cleanest city I have ever been to. No litter, no homeless, everybody there was super nice. Victoria was also great as well and not a long ways off itself

Checked it too..weekend of UT game, $1900 per night. Again, whatever floats your boat, and if money is no object...but I can take a family of 3 skiing in Colorado, staying in a pimp 2br condo for an entire week, including, airfare, ski school for the kid for 5 days, lift tickets etc. for less than 3 nights at that place. Oh, and all the activities are not included. Yes, you can pay someone $200 to “guide” you on a hike if you want. Or pay $175 to indoor rock climb for 2 hrs..wtf!?

the guided fly fishing is actually reasonable and in line with other outfitters.

Greenbrier is awesome but golf is one of the things I enjoyed most there.

I’m just a single guy who tends to travel by himself when he goes on vacation but Ireland can be surprisingly inexpensive (that said— if you want more, you pay for it). I was also impressed with Spain— found a cheap roundtrip flight last year. I’d go back there just to eat. Jamon Iberico... Yum!

we've done that a bunch. Wife loves disney world. We typically go during the food and wine festival in the fall though not during the spring. I would avoid spring break though. Will be busy as hell. I'm thinking we will go first week of December this time around.

as far as spring break suggestions go, Big Sky Montana. You are close to Yellowstone, but majority of it will be closed in March. Lake Tahoe Region. Wasatch Mountains outside of Salt Lake.

Y'all could always float the Chunky River. Lots of secluded spots along it for "gettin' busy".

Watch the Poison Oak. Trust me.

This^^^^

Used to say that Yosemite was the most beautiful place I had ever been. Then I went to a bluegrass festival. Town Park in Telluride is incredible. Boxed in by 14,000 foot peaks, with a waterfall.

Can’t speak personally but good friends of ours went to Iceland last year for their anniversary. They loved it, flew from Nashville to Boston to Iceland. He said it was reasonably priced and very memorable.

You never really said if you are beach person, mountains, country, culture or what.

Do NOT go to SF, but Napa is a great romantic time and you can enjoy the best food and wine and spa and 5 days is plenty.

If you like beach, fly to Cancun and stay at the Rosewood Mayakoba Resort. Probably best vacation we’ve been on. Your one of only 120 total rooms, which are really a small apartment, with out door shower and stairs to a balcony where you can live free! Also includes your own private plunge pool. The have a restaurant/bar with over 300 tequilas. They wipe your glasses, massage you by the pool, clean your face right at the pool. Pure paradise! Look it up.

Pro tip- If you want to travel the PCH, do it from North to South. That way you are on the right side of road - better view.

Yosemite and the sequoias is a most see, but Crater Lake in Oregon is awe-inspiring and add in a drive along US 101 is a can't beat experience. One year the wife and I flew to Vegas (the Nevada one), took in the sights and sounds then drove north through Death Valley to Yosemite, to Reno, to Tahoe, across the Donner Pass to Sacramento, to San Francisco, south through wine country to Barstow and then back along the Mojave back into Vegas for our flight back. Over 1300 miles, didn't notice at all, great experience.

As someone said earlier...DO NOT do S.F. That city is nothing like it was 20 yrs ago. Would have said do this back then with day trips to Napa and Monterrey but not now.

If cold weather is your thing in March then Banff and Lake Louise by train from Vancouver is the trip to take. Personally, I’d wait and do this trip in July or August.

My Trip would be this without the wife or girlfriend.

I’d fly to San Diego and do a beer/golf trail all the way up the PCH.

San Diego - Play Torrey Pines then tour Stone, Ballast Point and Green Flash then head north

San Luis Obispo - Play Morro Bay tour Barrelhouse Brewing and 7 Sisters Brewing

Monterrey - Pebble Beach and Fieldwork Brewing

Santa Cruz play Pasatiempo and drink at Shanty Shack Brewery

Ending the tour by playing Silverado in Napa then heading to Santa Rosa and Russian River Brewing (being sure to time this trip with the annual release of Pliny the Younger.)

If any of you 17’ers get to do this before me be sure and document it daily on SP.

I love a good beer tour & like to drink local beers when I can.

When I was in Barcelona, I found out that the major local brewery there was Damm— so of course I had Damm beers almost exclusively while there.

Steamboat, Telluride....etc. Can be done . BB farm is $1900 per night. You can get a place like this for less than $500 a night in SB.
https://www.steamboat-springs.com/H206A

And a full day undiscounted, lift ticket at ANY friggin resort, will cost less than 2 hrs of indoor rock climbing at Blackberry Farm. Let that sink in for a minute. BB farm is for people with money to burn, and so they can tell other people they went there.
Hell you can get a room at the Montage Deer Valley for Spring break for less than BB farm. And that’s the best hotel I’ve ever stayed at. Granted I wasn’t paying.
