Is there any really good barbecue in Lincoln? I’m not there often enough to know the restaurant landscape, but often enough that I’m interested in finding some good places to eat. TIA

Anyone who says KC bbq isn't the best... you have the food network and millions of other people who disagree with you. Majority millions.

Have you ever actually been to the one in AkSarBen? Or do you just magically know more than those who have?

Yes I'm sure the recipe is drastically different than the KC Oklahoma Joe's. Most ownership likes to throw a curve ball to their patrons and have a completely different taste at every location that they open. It's a very well defined successful business model.

Not to mention that I've had Famous Dave's, and every BBQ place that I've gone to, while living in Kansas City for 11 years, made that tripe taste like hospital food.

The fact that people have rated FD's a 4.2 on Yelp is proof that too many people have not experienced good BBQ.

I think “We’ll smoke ya” up in gretna is pretty good.

Mulberry bbq in Lincoln has decent meats. The sides are awful.

Phat jacks is pretty good

Parker’s is better than Dickies.

Silly me. I was going to suggest actually visiting a place before criticizing the reviews on it. But since you bolded that you lived in Kansas City for 11 years, I guess that changes everything:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Thanks for the info. I think I'm allergic to something at Dickie's - pretty sure it's the Kids Eat Free sign.

You’re welcome. Of those listed, The place in Gretna is the best in my opinion. It’s in the strip mall behind the sonic.

Dickeys is nasty but Phat Jacks has some good burnt ends and the Big Red Brisket with provolone cheese and BBQ Mayo is a good sandwich.

Yes, silly you. My point is I've eaten at Oklahoma Joe's in Kansas City. Do you think they are serving **** on a stick at the Oklahoma Joe's in Aksarben or something?? My guess is that the recipe for their meats and sauces is identical to the ones in KC.

I would guess you haven't had any KC BBQ. Is that correct?

Stacks, Gates, KC Masterpiece. Plus some joint in an old part of town I couldn't find again if my life depended on it. I love BBQ, even ball park BBQ at Kaufman stadium, but their funky tasting warm cold slaw gave me food poisoning so I prolly won't eat there again.

Does anyone remember Old Mill BBQ?

I DJ’d @ guitars and Cadillacs Back in the day. We had Old Mill catered in every Thursday night. Back then the choices were slim. All we really had was Jim’s Haven, the Amarillo, Old Mill, Mccanna’s blues blues and barbecue and Bills. Of all of them I preferred Bills the most. Though ordering your food at a gas station counter through bars And bulletproof glass always made the trip Interesting.

My dad and I owned a body shop about 1/2 mile as the crow flies away from Bills. We had it often for lunch. My dad was a regular at Guitars as well, I'd think you'd know him if you DJ'd there. Small world.

Maybe people are basing their rating off of more than just the food. Service, atmosphere, etc...

Oklahoma Joe’s and Joe’s KC are two different franchises now. The owners cut ties with each other about 5 or 6 years ago and split the company.

It’s proof that most people are mouth breathing **** birds undeserving of respect.

And you like Famous Dave's? Hmmm...that sure is a surprise after having some good KC BBQ. I've had FD's a couple times, and I won't be going back.

It’s possible. I was there 3 years and left in 97-98 when the started letting kids in after hours.

When Mccannas shut down 7 or 8 years ago I purchased my Ole Hickory from their auction. It’s been quite a few years since I’ve sampled anybody else’s Q.

Do you think either has changed much though? I don't understand why either would change the recipe.

I’m not sure. I know I’ve heard people say that they like KC Joes more than OJ’s and that the owners of KC was the real brains behind the operation. Not sure how true it is, but just what I’ve heard people say.

Gates ribs. How they get them so dry and not greasy and yet moist at the same time in incredible. Bryant - old memories. Hot *** summer day before a baseball game (A's) we would go in and watch them slap a hunk of beef/pork combo on Wonder Bread and then pour us a pitcher of the coldest beer in the world (Schlitz - we thought it divine but of course we were Johnson county Kansas white kids a couple years under age). Big old jars of their sauce in the front windows in the sunlight. If you wanted a soft drink there was an old 7up bottle machine, 15 cents. I remember their radio adds in the 60's - "are you tired of looking down and seeing no meat between your buns.....get on down to Arthur Bryants before a ball game." The town is full of so many tiny little BBQ joints you have to look for to find it really is unbelievable.

They aren’t exactly the same, there is a reason the KC ones changed their name to Joe’s Kansas City BBQ.

Q39 in a Landslide. If you have never tried their chicken wings you need to. they taste like nothing else you have ever had. do yourself a favor and order them as an appetizer.

I read am article that said there are a few differences with what's available on the menus, but the sauces only have slight differences. But maybe the differences on the menu do make a difference to people.

At any rate, my apologies to you, Charlie. You may very well be right that just a few differences on the menu make a big difference to people.
