What is there to elaborate on? Alex Smith isn't healthy right now, but he's a better QB when healthy. Remove him from the list and I still gave 14 that are better and some others are in the same neighborhood. 2 guys have Super Bowl rings on the second list.
That OL sucks but somehow Zeke was able to run for almost 1,500 yards in 15 games....
ETA: You know who else doesn't have great WRs? Tom Brady. Tom Brady was also sacked 21 total times last year which was the 28th least sacked QB.
Dak was sacked 56 times. Only Cousins was sacked more at 62 times.
My bad. I didn't know this was only a thread where homerism analysis was allowed.
I'm not hating on his money man. He should be paid, just not paid like a top 5 QB.
I know the hard part about this is looking forward to what he'll be worth in a couple more years and you have some of the older guys contracts coming due, but he hasn't proved he's a top 5 QB to me yet.
The sacks had a lot to do with the WR corps and Linehan. Dallas had the most predictable offense in NFL history.
On to the greater question.. should Dak get a top 10 contract... Let's look at facts:
1: Contracts are paid for future performance, not past... So Brees, Brady, Rivers, Big Ben, and Rodgers will all be retired in 5 years.. So they are not worth mentioning. For this purpose. Of course they are better. 3 of the 5 best ever are in that group.
2. Dak took a shitload of sacks last year. We can argue about why, but the biggest reason was the play calling/ beat up OL/ and **** WR seperation until Cooper showed up. These sacks killed his QBR, but he still finished the season ranked 17 in QBR. He was 4th in 2017 and 3rd in 2016. The Cowboys know they screwed him and have fixed it by trading for Cooper, firing the O-line coach in the middle of the season, and **** canning Linehan at the end of the year.. Even with the bad sack total last year, he averages 8th in QBR over his first 3 seasons. For a better look, check out this breakdown...

3. Lets take Wentz, Goff, and Mahomes and put them in Scott Linehan's offense for the last 3 years. ( Look at Goff as a rookie under a similar offense before McVay.) Now put Dak under McVay, Andy Reid, or Peterson's offense that is so good you can win a Superbowl with Nick Foles.. Notice Linehan is still unemployed. The fact is Dak has put up middle to upper tier numbers, even though other teams new what was coming.
4. Intangibles matter.
5. Did I mention what happened when they finally got Dak a legit receiver last year... Even with Linehan's **** play calling? Player A is Dak after Cooper, Player B is Brady en route to the Superbowl during the same time period.

I hope Dak doesn't get paid like a top 10 QB bc he's not one. Zeke is one of the top RBs in the league. Dallas really had no choice. Dak has intangibles you can't teach, but skill wise, they could draft a QB like Dak or go find one through free agency who has the same skill set. Again, Dak's intangibles are rare, but his skill set to this point is not.
He probably has the worst pocket awareness in the league among starting QBs. That might can be taught. We'll see. I know he's working on it.
Would you care to make a wager on Tua being a better NFL QB than Dak? If so, please specify your time frame. I.e. first year, 5th year etc. and also specify what metric you want to use to judge.
You saying he isn't a top 10 QB is one thing, but as a State fan, to say "I hope Dak doesn't get paid like a top 10 QB bc he's not one", is dumb. Any State player that does well in the NFL, or pro sports in general, and gets paid handsomely for doing it helps our school/program. You do realize that, no?

My original post about "not being paid like a top 10" was off. I'll admit that. When you start looking at the actual contracts of the highest paid QBs RIGHT NOW, it makes more sense about where he should fall on his next contract.
2-3 years out, Dak's contract, assuming he continues to progress like he has, should put him in that 4-7 range of highest paid QBs IMO.
It is just where he falls on the new contract scale. When the best quarterbacks renew their contracts they will be above him and his money won’t look out of line. He is on par with Wentz and Goff and should get paid like them.
I hope he's paid the highest of any QB ever for eternity.

My gestalt feeling is that he ranks somewhere just outside the top 10 QB's in the NFL.
Imagine thinking Matt Stafford is better than Philip Rivers. This is ridiculous. I can give you Ben, Stafford, and Wilson. The other names you posted we will agree to disagree. Rivers is a cry baby punk who has been playing in the NFL for 38 years and never won ****. I can’t believe he doesn’t get punched in the face at least 4 times a season. Cousins and Watson? WTF? That’s crazy talk. The names you included on your “argue” list makes me wonder if your football knowledge comes from playing fantasy football. Tyrod Taylor? Are you 17ing kidding me? That is just downright offensive.
Are you trying to get a nickname? We just fought this battle. Maybe I’m not understanding your fancy word correctly. If you say Dak is maybe not a top 5 QB, you can be considered an analyst. If you say he is not a top 10 QB, you are an anal cyst. And your an dumass
I don't want to make a bet against former MSU players and certainly not Dak. You people act like I hate him or something.
