Cal is 67 . How old is Pitino ,Izzo , Barnes and Sampson cause they aren't slowing down ?

Pitino hasn’t made a Final Four in 13 years. Izzo hasnt made one in 7(his longest drought), Barnes in 23 years.

Sampson isn’t slowing down. Barnes, Pitino and Izzo havent been at their peaks for ages.

Cal hasn’t made a final four in 11 years. Or even been a 1 seed.

Sampson is the only one of those guys that is still a threat nationally. And he doesn’t score enough points to win the ship.

I mean nothing for nothing but last year was one of his top ever offenses sooooo who cares

Based on data from the 2025-26 college basketball season, the Arkansas Razorbacks operated one of the most efficient and prolific offenses of John Calipari’s coaching career, averaging over 90 points per game and boasting an offensive efficiency rating of 122.2.
Yet still got blown the **** out in the tournament on the big stage with all of that 5* talent. He gets out coached in the big games because his **** is easy to scheme for & opposing coaches know he doesn't make adjustments. Bruce Pearl used to brag about how easy his stuff is to scheme for & how Calipari couldn't stop the middle ball screen.

Bill Self has only made it out of the first weekend once since 2018 and that one time he won it all . **** happens in the tournament

He got blown out this year by Arizona because of glaring weakness in the front court and the same will happen this year if it is not addressed.

Glaring weaknesses in the front court & in game coaching. Look, we could do this all day, Calipari is probably the best recruiter that ever lived, his in game coaching gets him every time, if he would actually draw up plays to win games with all that talent, even study different offenses & utilize that, he could potentially be the greatest ever, but he won't. All he wants to do is throw all that talent out there & let them make plays, it always gets him when it counts. It's really sad what he could've been at Kentucky & chose to be stubborn.

It is funny seeing these Arkansas fans (cucks) who's coach literally publicly says he does not care about their program and they love it. But they try to talk trash now except for their coach LOST to the guy everyone is clowning right now lol Imagine losing to Mark Pope?? You cannot make it up. EVERYONE is clowning Pope and Calipari still lost to him. 2 bozo coaches and Arkansas is a bozo fanbase.
The Hogs can have Cal and his 10 lose seasons, plus his inability to outcoach 3rd rate schools and lose in clutch situations. Can't coach Cal can recruit but can't do a thing with all that talent.

I don’t know bud. As bad as I hate it, getting Smith Jr is going to go a long way this year. Kids a winner on both ends of the floor and honestly, I wanted him more than stokes. Anyway, besides him, Cal has changed quite a bit since he left here about getting older. And is getting some good players. I hate it bad but they have a chance to make a final four run this season. Damn I about puke saying that. lol. 😆 I hope we beat the dog poo out of them this season, but Cal has found some motivation since leaving here and seems to be getting a little better each year there. We’ll see what happens.
I agree completely. He got that life time contract and started coasting from that time until he left. He always got good talent and more often than not, he under achieved with them his last four seasons. I still believe the new job gave him something to prove once again. He's making coaching moves that a lot of people here were begging him to do. He seems to be coaching to win again. At least, that's my take on it.

🥱 this narrative is played out. It just makes us look dumb. Cal is considered by EVERY national pundit out there to be an all time Top 10 basketball coach .

It’s aggravating. We were in a no win situation hanging onto Cal unfortunately. He just wasn’t motivated to change here.

No he’s not. Top 10 during his time. But nowhere close to all time.

Rupp, Wooden, Smith, Knight, K, Pitino, Izzo, Williams, Calhoun, Wright. Theres 10 right off the top of my head that most would put well ahead of him.

How much of that motivation was due to having the dumbest AD on the planet as a boss. I’ve had jobs where my motivation subsided or disappeared completely due to having to work for a complete idiot.

Technically at this point I’ll give you possibly not Top 10. He’s probably around 12th all time at this point. 900 wins is pretty impressive.

Still pretty damn amazing.

Ask them how many SEC Titles, Final Fours, and National Titles he has gotten them.
Man, he’s only coached two seasons. He won the SEC championship in a difficult season the tournament SEC tournament.. can bag on all you want but cal is freaking totally out classing UK. He’s making Kentucky look really bad. I lament the fact. We unloaded cal before our crooked corrupt athletic Director, who we all said should absolutely not make the next hire. And to be honest, Barney pulled some dirty sheesh on cal. To catch Cal talking to Arkansas. And that’s your cause to fire him. He wanted to get him out of the way so he could continue to destroy the basketball program. He truly hates our fans. He hates our basketball fans the microwave fans as he calls him. Guy needs to finish his tenure and get the hell out of Kentucky. If I ever run across Barney he ll, wish he left Kentucky if he’s still there when I see him. I love UK Basketball it’s been a big part of my life for a long time. My entire life fit over 50 years and because of this Jack Weed he stole it, stole it from all of us and then sidled us. With a former player who as a coach. Is worse than Travis Ford is worse than John Pelfrey as a coach I would say even Sean woods I would take before Mark Pope. I close my eyes and then I open them and I can’t believe Mark Pope is the coach of university of Kentucky. I played here a couple years. The reason in Lexington a couple years he doesn’t connect with people in Lexington he’s a West Coast guy laid back. Lack sense of urgency thinks he knows at all. He can just like show up to the game and not coach his butt off in the preseason. I’d like to see Pope look into like Utah Valley stay or one of those other Utah schools go ahead and secure a job with that school.. his experience at Kentucky, even though he didn’t deserve it should get him more money. Although when this is all sudden down, I wouldn’t be surprised if Pope hangs them up. I mean think about it. This is like the pinnacle of what he’s doing Dunn. Nowhere no more upward mobility.

I've developed a soft spot for Arky fans...Sure, I still want to whip their *** when we play them, but they aren't so bad...little slow, not full (never go full) not bad folks though. I'd take an Arky fan any day over a Louisville fan
I think you’re your Arkansas fan. Arkansas fans are the worst fans in the SEC.. if you live anywhere near Fayetteville, you know I’m talking about these guys think. They have the eight titles. And when they’re ready to talk smack, they’ll tell you about how Kentucky’s down and they’re up and it’s all about what’s happening right now. History doesn’t matter tradition doesn’t matter. Arkansas fans saw that they’re so delusional. They’re right there with Carolina fans, but Carolina fans have some things to hang their hat on and now they’ll argue which program is all time better but they know their argument sucks. Arkansas knows that they suck on a regular basis, but in the SEC , they’re the third best team all time.

We don’t all know that because it’s simply not true.

Cal always adjust how he plays to the players on the team. It takes a while each season with all new guys.

Back when he coached at UMass and Memphis and had a group for 3-4 years they were very disciplined on the court.

You don’t win over 900 games and go to 6 FF’s by not being able to coach.

Regardless of what dookie Matt jones says.
There is no doubt that Cal still has a way higher ceiling than Pope ever will. The issue is that the ceiling combined with his lackadaisical game planning, momentum, and the state of his program here he had to go. We just made the worst hire possible. That is Mitch’s fault and our spineless corrupt administration. The fans just get to argue with the results of it.

Same as his last offenses here, they didn’t defend at an elite level, and he hasn’t gotten a team to do that in 10 years.

How would Kentucky fans feel about Pitino's first 6 years at Louisville when he was in his prime ? He missed the tournament twice , had a first round exit , second round exit twice and a National Semi final ?

Valid point... But that same AD hired him and it didn't seem to affect his motivation the first 5 or 6 years of his tenure. But granted, things could have soured over that time.

Pitino had UL ranked in the top 10 and as high as #2 by his 2nd season. And then went to a final four in season 4.

They went to the NIT is first year when he was rebuilding snd then went again in 2006 coming off the programs first final four in like 20 years and transitioning from conference USA to a loaded Big East.

We would have felt pretty good.

Yeah but he got bounced in the first weekend after being as high as #2 . I thought that's all that mattered with Cat fans .

Now compare the Pitino and Cal head to head when one was at UK and the other was somewhere else. You will find the common denominator.
I was curious as to how that does break down . Both coaches when they were at UK had it rolling at the time of their matchups that's for sure . You would expect Pitino to get the best of Cal when he was at UMASS and from 2010 to 2016 that was Prime UK Cal so you would expect him to get the best of Pitino at that time .

NBA 3-3
UMASS KY Pitino was 4-1
Memphis Louisville 4-4
UK Louisville Cal 8-2
Ark St Johns Cal 1-0

Say what you want about narrative, I coached for over 20 years at various levels and Cal is one of the worse bench coaches I have ever seen, yes he gets talent but look at what he has done with that talent, hell there are coaches out there in the college ranks who would have won 3 maybe 4 championships with Cal's talent if you take his Umass and Memphis teams along with his time at UK.
