I'll give Alberts the benefit of the doubt. He may not have gotten the feedback he wanted if he sent out any feelers or whatever. But I certainly don't look forward to next season at this point.

Trev never sent out feelers. Frost is the guy. Get over it

I think Frost would have been fired if not for his history as a player and his 20 million buyout. They are reluctantly giving more time only for those factors.
He definitely would have been. Trev’s hand was forced by the TC, the gift that keeps giving. A lot of booster money was going to be withheld if Frost was let go. Combined with the buyout, Trev did what he could at the time.

it is a perfect example of unconscious bias and privilege - in this case husker privilege

one is given opportunities, years of excuses/rationalizations and 2nd-3rd-4th-5th chances not based on merit but based on privilege

Happens in all areas of society

Pretty much. You can watch people painfully twisting themselves into knots trying to convince themselves Frost is the answer. If only we have a new offensive staff. If only we change QB, etc etc

Few if any are saying Frost is the answer. The plan laid out by ADTA for his return next year is built around giving him less control over the team.

I live in the Lincoln/Omaha area, plenty of regular country joes and aunt marthas still want to give him more time. Although that is probably getting closer to end of next year as a timeframe.

As he said yesterday, he has to give more of his attention to special teams. Really, after four year of abject failure now you decide to take a look?

This is going to sound ridiculous, but Frost needs to be fired next year regardless of the record the team has. I see no long term consistent success with him. I’m sure he’s capable of putting together a good year on a tight leash with little control over the team. The moment that leash is given more slack though is the moment he’ll grow complacent and it will be right back to the same old song and dance.

This is one of my biggest thing with him that he has been this stupid about winning or losing games because of special teams play…

It may just be a foregone conclusion.

Alberts does deserve the benefit of the doubt here. He brought Frost back for 2 reasons:

1) He was NOT going to pay him a $20 million buyout and he needed to get that lowered significantly. He accomplished this.

2) He understood you can't have another FB Coach fired here in 4 years or less-- that would make 3 of the last 4 HCs here that would be in the same category. Terrible optic to future HC candidates.

Apparently.

There is zero attention to detail, and never has been.

If that were not the case, we would have won yesterday's game.

If you're taking care of details, **** like getting punts blocked and dropping inexperienced QB's into the end zone and abandoning an effective ground game when up 2 scores doesn't happen every single week.

I'm not sure what the thought process is as to why we lose a game in a different manner each week? Just a huge 4 year run of bad luck?

No. It's because all the little **** ends up adding up to big ****, and the WAY you prepare for the little **** is a reflection on how you prepare for everything else.

Financial advisors often day "watch the pennies and the dollars will follow".

It's no different in this game. Sloppy preparation across all the little areas shows up. Drip by drip.

Assuming your experienced returner knows not to catch a punt on the goal line -- drip. Confusion on your calls and your kicker kicks left when coverage is to the right. Drip. Your QB not knowing he absolutely can't run into the end zone and take a safety on (first or second) down in a one score game. Drip. On and on and on.

Does Alberts really believe bringing in new assistants is going to instill some sort of discipline? Attention to detail?

No he does not.

Nobody believes that.

That expectation starts at the top, and is reflected in how the assistants and coordinators prepare their units. You're not getting it by churning OC's until someone brings that with them and pushes it out to the rest of the staff.

We are JUST NOW figuring out that ST needs fixing? Really? Anyone up here saw they were broken 3+ years ago. And never one ounce of improvement. Where you been, Frost? Do you watch the same team everyone else does? Ever watch that unit perform? Any of it? When did we last have a big return of any kind? When did we last block a punt? Yes, it's still possible in today's day and age. If there's any doubt, watch some game tape of our opponents' special teams prison yarding our ST unit each week in pretty much every phase.

For 4 years, the strategy seems to be "we can't be good at ST so we will just try to be not bad". And that hasn't even worked. We're still as bad or worse than ever.

It's about $$$$ and buyout. And we are likely going to see AM back next season.

5th season in a row of doing the exact same **** and expecting it's going to somehow have a different result.

While I wanted Frost gone. I certainly do not blame Alberts. Hell, he hasn’t even finished stocking his pen drawer in his new desk yet. 4 -1/2 months in a new job is not enough time to have a solid plan in effect, when you are talking about the business of running an entire Athletic Department the size of NEBRASKA. That being said, no excuse for next year. If we don’t hit 8, Frost needs to be thawed.

Yeah unless next year is a banner year it should be time to move on. It would be crazy to give him a 6th year if we go 6-6 or 7-5.
