Are we a bad team? I don't think so, but we're playing bad, as a team. We have the talent to compete with any team in college basketball. Just think back to when we played Kansas, or just recently when we played WV on their home court.
Our problem at the present time is, no team work. We pass the ball around outside, very few balls go inside via a pass, then someone drives to the basketball, with two or three defenders waiting on him. Instead of then passing it out to the wing, he tries to take it to the basket, usually failing. Yes, we have players who can hit the three, IF THEIR FEET ARE SET, but tonight they didn't get that chance. When they shot the three, they were NOT set.
There has NEVER been a team with five Freshmen starting, win the NC. Michigan, with their so-called Fab Five came the closest. Cal's ego wants him to be the first, but I don't think it will happen, but I hope it will. Like a lot of fans, I don't give a **** about the NBA, and if the players have to stay in college a couple more years, so what. I just want to hang No. 9. It's been much to long, and my expectations were high when Coach Cal was hired.
Missouri players give our players a lesson in team ball, and how to pass to the wing, after penetrating. I hope they learned, that talent alone will not win many games, even against a mediocre team. We'll see if they learned anything today, next Tuesday, but I wouldn't bet on it.

This is not a team. The players put no effort into their defensive play and on offense it is only individual play, and not very good play at that. The first half was unwatchable. Coach Cal can only do so much with players that don't want to play together.

We are an extremely inconsistent team. There is such a broad range of how bad and good we can be, it's hard to narrow it down right now. Hopefully the gap will narrow by March.

This group unfortunately makes life so difficult for themselves (and for us!) because of the little errors they commit on both ends of the court. The have no appreciation or knowledge of the game's fundamentals, and it was evident today as they squadered chance after chance to get some kind of control. It is super frustrating to watch them sabotage their own athleticism and reasonable skill with mistakes in virtually every category of the game. It all adds up to being a mediocre team. Right now--this may change--they are possibly Cal's worst. Funny how not a single one of our players is a man capable of playing a college man's game and yet we continue to talk about some of them being draftable.

This team is very inconsistent, so yes, we were bad today. Maybe the next game will bring a different result, but this is February and this team is playing like it's November.

You still asking this question OP?

Of course we're a bad team. And it's not getting better. This will be the worse run in Cal's time here. This season and next season we will have few top 25 wins and damn near 25 losses.

I said in November that we have a lot of pieces, but will those pieces fit together, so far the answer is no.

We have played 5 bad halves out of the last 6. We are bad as of today
We have played only 3 good halves all year, the whole UL game and the second half at WV. We even had close games against low level reams in pre season. We could very easily lost to A&M,@Vandy,Vandy@home. We make mediocre teams look far better than they are.

UK is a bad team at the moment. The problem I see is they have so many different issues that all of them cannot be corrected to be anything other than average to maybe just a tick above average at best.

KentuckyRLD, your wrong. This is Cal's team, and he is responsible for how they play. He has 13 players on this team that he can use. Nothing says he has to play, players who don't do what he wants. I guarantee you that Coach Rupp, Coach Hall and even Coach Pitno would not put up with the **** I'm seeing with this team. Put their A$$ on the bench until they get splinters in it. He is much to interested in getting them to the NBA, and their much to interested in getting to the NBA, to play team ball.

Bad team? There is no team on the floor for Kentucky this year. They are awful. I have been following the Cats for over 50 years and this is easily the worst I have seen. I hope the lot of them go the the NBA so maybe I will have something besides a bunch of prima dona's playing for the highlight reel to watch next year. This is a mess and it is on Cal's head.

Yes. That is not a team but a collection of individuals wearing the same uniform. Cal lets himself get put in this position occasionally where the players first mentality bites him when they don’t buy in.

This group doesn’t. Hami is so selfish, whiny and piss poor defender. After sitting out last year, I can say I’m not surprised. The next time Richards plays hard will be the first time. Cal is stuck with a bunch of low basketball iq lengthy players. I don’t know what you have to do in recruiting to not miss this badly, but if Cal is gonna live by players first he better make sure he gets guys who will be their brothers keeper.

And the problem is, when you miss and get the kinds of players we have, it has a snowball effect. Now potential recruits aren't coming because of the product they see now and because the roster might not allow for it. So instead of having some front court studs next year, we have Richards, Gabriel, SKJ, and Washington. We have to evaluate talent and IQ. And it really sucks that PJ, the coach's son, is not fundamentally sound and doesn't play hard. You assume all coach's sons will at least do those things.

Let us play to our positive's. We have NINE superb athletes. We need to Full-court press the whole game. That was the only time they acted like a team today.

I see people calling this team out on their lack.of defensive intensity, I guess I need to know WTF you people are watching. I thought the defense was really good today. Missouri got 69 points, but lets put that into perspective. UK couldn't hit the broad side of a barn on offense and it put our defense on its heels the hole game. Holding UM to 69 points is actually very good and I saw really good defensive principles today.
But that offense his God awful. I have no idea what Cal and his staff are trying to accomplish on offense beyond isolation plays where one guy tries to beat the entire defense by himself, then he tells the media that our players areare passing the ball.
Who would they pass the ball to? Nobody moves. Everyone just stands there.

This isn't the team Cal wanted when he was recruiting them. Its the team he ended up with. Cal's teams excel when he gets the best talent - and even then the teams are still vulnerable to a veteran team capable of exploiting their weaknesses. His recruiting approach leaves very little margin for error.

Sounds harsh but it is what it is. Doesn't make them bad kids or bad basketball players.

Cal gets the guys he wants, we do well. He gets the guys he wants after the guys he really wants goes somewhere else, not so much.

That's why the past 2 recruiting classes have been so concerning for the fans.

No team has ever won a championship starting 5 freshman and only one has gotten to a final four. Michigan came the closest but they had more than one player who were in the top 5 . Cal is trying to do something that has never been done . Tough challenge that becomes even tougher in the days ahead

We are the youngest team in college basketball. And at the end of the season...we’ll be the youngest team in college basketball.
Give me this team next year minus Knox and Diallo (he’s the only guy remotely close to being ready and Diallo drives me crazy) plus Herro, Johnson, and Quickley.

Bad team with good athletes. Combining to make what in all honesty is a mediocre product. Crazy how little improvement these guys have made.

Are duke and KU? UK struggled today shooting. Got 5 points from their best player and didn't share the ball according to Cal. They played bad today, but they are not a bad team.

Defense wasn't the problem. They scored numerous 3's off of helter skelter possessions or got bailed out by a whistle late in the shot clock.
We had a 10 min total scoring drought in the 1st half. That kind of offensive production puts too much pressure on any team's defense.

Yeah I mean we held them to under 1 point per possession even with them parading to the line at the end of that game.

We turned them over. We out rebounded them.

We just shot it terribly. That's all.

This.
Fix the offense, in particular, outside shooting and the obscene lack of movement, and we might have something.

Geez, stop projecting like a little ***** cincy... you have no idea what will happen in this year's tourney much less next season.

We are not good now but neither was 2011 or 2014 (and yes I know we do not have a Knight, Jones, or Randle) but calm your panic a little bit.
