I did. Huge crowd. The room was packed. Cohen, Vic, and Moorhead all spoke.
Cohen talked about high team GPAs, teams in postseason, and promised a great hire for baseball.
I know most people think Vic will leave when Texas A&M opens, but he got choked up when he talked about what Mississippi State and the people of Starkville mean to him.
Moorhead addressed the fact he’s from the north. He said he hears the rumblings that he is going to have a hard time recruiting since he isn’t from the south. He laughed and said if you can recruit then you can recruit doesn’t matter where you are from. He had your normal rah rah coaching stuff, but I was impressed with his speech.
Overall it was a great time.
I’m glad it’s not outside at the Beau anymore.
80% of the time your recruiting is a function of your coaching, I don't care how slick of a talker you are, you have to prove it on the field firstThe thing the "ain't from the South" people forget about JoMo is that he is from a very blue collar background just like a lot of the parents of the kids we recruit. He understands their concerns and connects with them on a basic level.
How big is that alumni association out there? It seems I have asked this question beforeNot a Coast Dawg, but I'm going to the one in Houston tonight.
Looking forward to a good event.

That being said, being from the south really means nothing and at MSU, we really don't need 'one of ours', our own people are often our problem
We cut it off at 175 RSVPs Monday nite as had to give number to caterer yesterday. Pretty good number for a lunchtime event. Looking forward to a great event.Good deal, I'm looking forward to the one in Huntsville tomorrow. Looks like close to 200 have already reserved.

Either way, loads of potential as far as economy and potential students/athletes from that area, I think it needs to be a major focus when it comes to student recruiting, would love to see GTR hook up with Hobby or Bush

Huntsville is another city where MSU can have a lot of success recruiting students (we've been cleaning up the baseball talent too)Good deal, I'm looking forward to the one in Huntsville tomorrow. Looks like close to 200 have already reserved.
I left Houston 20 years ago, but at that time Huntsville, AL had the largest chapter outside the State of Mississippi. The Houston chapter was really struggling with organization and membership....lots of petroleum engineers in the Houston area who were pissed that MSU dropped petroleum engineering as a major. I volunteered to do some phone calling to try to get the chapter more active, and got hung up on several times by some mad engineers.
If they are hosting the RoadDawgs tour, then I imagine it has improved. Plus, the younger alums wouldn't be petroleum engineers, so that problem slowly resolves itself!

Houston could and should be, along with Atlanta. Those are cities big enough to not have local boy politics and flags can be planted, due the economy, geography and how it relates to MSU. In Birmingham, and to a lesser degree Huntsville, it will always be dominated by Alabama and AuburnLost that title some time back as Memphis, Birmingham, and Atlanta chapters all grew rapidly. Last I recall, Memphis had taken the title, but it's been a while since I was on the national alumni board and got the annual reports.
