Absolutely. Baylor would arguably be the best player out of all of those guys but its still a butterfly effect on the minutes and its still roster competition. I'm betting due to his recent comments on Kansas and the fact that once Baylor hit the portal the "Reeves to UK may not be a done deal" stories all started to conveniently pop up and now 24 hours after Baylor hits the portal and after UK has had time to speak with Baylor all of those reports on Reeves are out the window and he's suddenly committed.
UK still recruiting Baylor. They need Baylor and 1 or 2 more players.

Welcome aboard! I guess we're going to have to call him Little Country since Big Country is already taken?

Excuse my ignorance. I don’t know much about this guy at all. But somebody please persuade me to be excited about an Illinois St transfer. I know he averaged 20ppg, but I doubt the competition was very stiff. I just have a hard time getting on board with players from Illinois St and Detroit Mercy being the talent level we need to get us back to where we want to be.
Paul George went to Fresno State
Ja Morant went to Murray State
Kawhi Leonard - San Diego State
Damian Lillard - Weber State
Stephen Curry - Davidson

Am I saying he's a future NBA all-star? No. But plenty of elite talent at mid major schools. Their problem is they are lucky to have one where a Kentucky may have a whole roster of them.

I know Cal doesn't guarantee playing time, but they need to give the wink, wink, nudge, nudge to Scheierman and tell him the SF position is essentially his, and encourage Livingston be a MKG-lite type off the bench.

There's still room for another guard/wing. And I think they'll manage Fredrick's minutes with his injury history. Scheierman can shoot, rebound and pass. Would be an awesome addition.

glad to have the kid.......... but just to put it into perspective, we are replacing an NBA kid with a not NBA kid... so in the scheme of things my mind wont let me get excited for him too much ... wish we could get Sharpe back and then this kid would get me thrilled as icing on the cake
I think of him as replacing Grady's roll, which is an upgrade. AR is more versatile offensively than Grady for sure. He can create off the dribble and finish at the hoop, which were not in Grady's repertoire. Along with that, Reeves' is also a really good spot-up shooter and can put the ball on the deck to get his shot off, like Grady was known for.

Unfortunately, we aren't going to replace Sharpe, unless some crazy good high-school recruit comes out of the woodwork and we somehow pull him in. I believe Sharpe's void will have to be filled by a couple of guys collectively, which I believe is totally fine and will work. Wallace/CJ/Reeves and maybe one more guard we can grab, can handle the loss and keep us trucking along.

He may get the green light to take a 3 or two per game but I don't see Cal pulling him out to the perimeter the majority of time. Pulling the nations leading rebounder away from the basket to roam the 3 point line would be insane but then again it is Calipari and he does some crazy stuff.
Having Oscar as a trailer on the break for a three would be effective. We did that with Patterson in his last year.

There's a little film clip of football players that rolls continually on this site. The other day, it showed wide receivers who outclassed their defenders. For the last day or so, it has shown cornerbacks who beat the receivers they're defending. Until players get here and step on the court there's not really a good way to tell who's who. Those lists of rankings seem dubious to me. You never know if the ranker knows anything at all. A coach might think X could fit in his system perfectly and yet he's "ranked" 19th. Do you miff the fans or do you go with your own eyes?

I hope so on Wallace but are we talking about the same Wheeler? He ball watches causing him to get beat backdoor a lot. He is too small to switch on any high pick and rolls and is very inconsistent in fighting through screens. He gets steals but also gambles a lot to get them which if it isn't a turnover it can be an easy basket.

Everyone says they want a scorer and I agree we needed another shooter but they must have forgotten in the last 10 games of the season the opposing team had 11 different perimeter players score 17+ on us and we were 6-4 during that stretch. If you eliminate the 2 Florida games it is 11 guys over 8 of the final 10 games and we were 4-4 in those 8 games. Our guards couldn't stop anyone down the stretch.
Great post and spot on, just because you get up in somebody doesn't mean your a good defender as they drive right around your supposed pressure.

I can't fathom a scenario where the Baylor kid looks at a roster that has: Reeves, CJ, Wallace, Livingston, all 4 playing his position(s) and comes to Lexington. I would wager this turn of events with Reeves hinged on something between UK and Baylor over the last 24 hours. I could be wrong but I would assume he would move to a less crowded roster. Having said that I think Baylor is light years better than CJ so him coming would only further screw CJ but its all the same amount drama however you slice it.
If Baylor Schierman was what you are making him out to be, he would be a first Rd pick with a shot like he has. Unsure if he can guard at the sec level, but he is a really nice offensive player

His top choice is the NBA. His top college choice is Kansas. He wants guaranteed minutes and shots that he won't be getting at UK due to Wallace and Livingston.

Reeves was more open to coming off the bench, so Calipari moved quickly to lock him up.

Because playing with 5-star recruits Wallace and Livingston is completely different than playing with 5-star recruits MJ Rice and Gradey Dick.

Wallace and Livingston are both top 10 recruits.

Rice is outside of the top 25 on both 247 and Rivals. Dick is outside of the top 25 on Rivals.

So yes, most people see a significant difference between competing for playing time with top 10 recruits and competing for playing time with guys who are right at the borderline for 4-star status.

Scheierman would start at Kansas. At Kentucky he would come off the bench (and now he also has Reeves to battle for bench minutes.) He isn't coming to UK. You can doubt that as much as you want.

Who else are we looking at? We only have 10 counting Toppin and Brooks, right? If both of those two don't come back, we really need to add other players. Who is our 3? Livingston? Brooks?

I have a dump truck full of doubt in regards to Baylors ability to play defense and guard the perimeter with any sort of efficiency at the P5 level.

There aren't going to be a lot of Oscar Tshiebwe's in the portal. We got very lucky. Might want to lower your expectations for help from the portal. Cal needs to get back to getting the best of the best.

we're pumped about an illinois state transfer. my have we fallen way off

The Missouri Valley was rated as the 11th best conference this past season, right there with the West Coast, Confer USA, and the Southern.

It's hard to say how his scoring will translate of course, but some comparables from his league would be DJ Horne, who went from 15.1 in 20/21 to 12.5 PPG at Arizona St. in 21/22. Also, Javon Freeman-Liberty went from 19.0 PPG in 19/20 to 14.4 PPG at DePaul in 20/21 (Then got 21.7 PPG this year). Out of the Southern conference, Mason Faulkner went from 16.9 PPG at W. Carolina to 4.6 PPG at UL. Kaiden Rice went from 17.6 PPG at the Citadel to 11.0 PPG at G'Town. Strom Murphy went from 17.8 to 8.0 PPG at VT. Out of the CUSA, Malik Curry went from 15.7 to 9.7 PPG at West Virginia. Bryson Williams went from 17.8 PPG to 14.1 PPG at Texas Tech. Grady, meanwhile, went from 17.1 to 11.4 PPG at UK.

On average, these low-level conference stars are going from 17.1 to 10.7 PPG, with Faulkner at UL being the worst case scenario.
