Would he be a good assistant for us? Especially as other guys get pulled for HC jobs?
I had heard the same thing last week from IU fans.... Please let little Tommy C. Coach in the SEC!Originally posted by CatEye2010:
Now Alabama can go after their dream coach, Tom Crean!
Seriously, have heard this.
I hope not, but you're probably right. Payne has too much talent and experience to remain as an assist for much longer. He doesn't get enough credit for the great work he has done developing big men at Kentucky.Originally posted by KYBallCoach:
Kenny Payne maybe on their radar. I bet Miss St wish they had a do over passing on Payne.
You have to have an opening to hire him as an assistant and unless I have missed something, Billy D doesn't have anyone on his staff rumored for HC job this year and I doubt he'd fire or demote someone to get Grant back,Originally posted by Dennis Reynolds:
He goes back to UF, and Donovan has 2 former coaches with great recruiting in the south. I don't like it.

University of Alabama Director of Athletics Bill Battle announced Sunday the firing of the Crimson Tide men's basketball coach Anthony Grant.
"Earlier today, I informed Anthony Grant that he will not be retained as head men's basketball coach at the University of Alabama," Battle said. "This decision was reached only after a great deal of deliberation, but I feel it is in the best interests of the basketball program to make a change in leadership. This has been a very difficult decision, as I have the highest respect for Anthony as a coach, as a molder of young men, and as a person.
Given it more thought than I, but I don't see Pel getting another chance in the SEC. Payne will go somewhere, but the SEC? I guess, maybe. I'd think Shyatt is ready to leave. Who wouldn't want to leave Laramie realizing of course one of our own is there.Originally posted by truebluewildcat:
Let the carousel begin...
My list if I'm the AD at Bama.....
Richard Pitino--Name and pedigree...worked under father at UL and Billy at UF...now has some experience...
Kenny Payne--Cal's man...only a matter of time...real players type of coach...
Rick Stansbury--has the sec experience...just helped aggies haul in one of the best recruiting classes
John Pelphrey--sec experience...worked under has worked under billy...
Archie Miller--bout time for him to take a big boy step...he'll be a hot name for years to come...
Eric Mussleman--LSU assistant...basketball name and pedigree...extensive pro experience in front office and on bench...
Larry Shyatt--Wyoming HC...former Billy D right hand man...

As a UK fan it is pretty much unfathomable to me that there are fan bases that just don't really care about basketball. How could you not?
Then again, I don't really care about football. It's so damn slow. I'm pacing my house before a football game is over. But hey, plenty of time for pee breaks.

Alabama is the type of program that needs to hire an experienced, successful coach who's out of work, for whatever reason. Similar to what Auburn did with Pearl.
You two are in the vast minority in your opinion. Most of this country favors football by a wide margin over basketball, and it's not even close.Originally posted by MakinMusic:

We are a basketball school 8 NCs to 0 for football and although I believe our football is on upswing can't see a NC in our future, but you are right Football is bigger than basketball in most places other than Ky, North Carolina and possibly Virginia.Originally posted by STUCKNBIG10:

I love basketball and I'm loving this season, but I'd take a national title in football any day of the week over a national title in basketball.
Not trying to be a prick ...especially because you are a good poster. But I don't see marshal leaving his current job except for a school or program unless they are dedicated to,basketball. Like an indiana ectOriginally posted by TideMan09:
