Tim Elko from Ole Miss, probably a First Team All-SEC guy and their best hitter, just injured his knee running to first base in a midweek game where OM was up 10 runs. Wasn’t putting pressure on it leaving the field, no idea how long term it is but it seems very noteworthy given that they play Arkansas and us the next two weeks.

MRI today, but was on crutches after the game. Doesn't sound good even if it's just a sprain.

I know it's Ole Miss but you really hate to see anyone get injured, let alone a guy like that. He's a really, really good player. They're pretty good overall but that's going to leave a big hole in their lineup.

Here's the play where it happened. It was completely non-contact. So weird.

Mike Bianco said he will get an MRI tomorrow and it's tough to estimate the severity at this point (via SEC Network+) Elko this season (28 games): .340 AVG, 9 HR, 36 RBI pic.twitter.com/afdGRRhc2l— Jon Sokoloff (@JonSokoloff) April 6, 2021 [/FONT]

I hate it for Hill and Elko. In the case of Elko, he was draft eligible last season. I assume the reason he is still at Ole Miss is the shortened draft last year.

But no doubt it would be a big blow to Ole Miss. In 9 SEC games:
BA-Elko 0.385, rest of team 0.272
SLG %-Elko 0.538, rest of team 0.403
OB%-Elko 0.415, rest of team 0.385

That stinks, just really bad luck, and partially from the ineptitude of N Alabama’s defense, who he was trying to avoid. That team made a ton of errors against us too.

He tore his ACL. It’s confirmed. He says he’s going to try and rehab it and take medication in order to play some, but I just don’t see it. I mean he can maybe pinch hit some later in the year, but I wouldn’t allow him to.

Appreciate your all kind words on the injury. It’s part of the game, but it sucks. He was a premier bat, in a lineup that’s proven quite volatile, he was the constant. I don’t think we can come even remotely close to replacing him. With him I felt like we were an Omaha favorite, with a slight chance at a title. Without him, I feel like we will have to catch some breaks and play very well to sniff Omaha. He was one of the 2 guys we couldn’t afford to lose. I hate it for him. He’s paid his dues for this year and opportunity. It sucks.

Is it likely he already had a tear going or something? Just seems crazy he could tear it on that.

Hate that the injury happened, and I agree, it would seemingly be difficult for him to do a whole lot more than pinch hit and then immediately have someone pinch run for him if he gets on.
