Another exec speaks on Sharpe

I really dislike this guy and have from the moment it was clear what was occurring. Sharpe and players like him are an absolute cancer to the sport. The worst part about it which already suffers the worst from selfishness.

I think he’s a con man trying to get rich and hide his flawed game. He didn’t give a crap about the guys on the roster.

When he ends up being really good in the NBA, the butthurt will be even more plentiful on this board
And Sharpe probably will end up being a really good player. But I would be willing to bet it takes him at least 3 years to be considered a pretty good NBA player. Now that's one of those things that doesn't have anything to do with the price of tea in China, but I would still bet he'll be lucky to play much for a year or two.

You've seen him play a lot?

More than NBA execs whose job depends on correctly evaluating players (who have actually played games)?

Cool deal.....
The same NBA execs that are wrong a lot ? Hell one of these execs will take him in the lottery .

And they’ll turn right around and draft him the first chance they get. The problem is the modern NBA overemphasizes potential vs. production.

Which is why the guy who was the best and hardest-working damned player in college basketball last year is coming back to play for us in the hopes he can show enough development to be drafted in first round while the guy who sat on the bench and watched him work his a$$ off is going to be a Top 5 pick.

If I remember correctly, Sharpe only began his rise about a year ago. He came from nowhere to be the #1 player in the 2022 class during May and June of 2021. Is it possible that is his highwater mark? I may be off in the timing of his rise but that is the way I remember it.

Vanderbilt and Sharpe: two cancerous players who no UK fan should have any fondness for.
Including Vanderbilt is completely wrong. He worked hard to get on the floor and when he could actually play without pain, he was a difference maker. Sad fact is, he couldn't stay healthy.

Revisiting history on Vanderbilt I believe the consensus at the time that people felt Vanderbilt had a minor injury and mailed it in the rest of the year.

Sharpe used UK but never actually played a game.
There was a lot of hand wringing over Vanderbilt, but UK was 7-7 in games he played. He would’ve been an incredible college basketball player had he stuck around for a few seasons, but all he could do as a Freshman was rebound.

It won't. NBA teams give these rookies SMALL first contracts in relation to revenue, so the damage done with taking a chance on a kid is minimal.
Other than the fact that teams picking in the top 10 are for a reason. I can see a team in the 20 plus range taking a chance but teams in the lottery and top 10 need help now, not hope it materializes in a few years down the road. If I were a GM and my job depended on my pick I would not go with an unknown. Too much at stake to take a chance!!!

I would bet a lot of money that Sharpe will not last past the 10th pick and more likely the 5th. if he is as athletic as the reports say he is, no GM will want to be the one that DIDN'T draft him on the chance he becomes a franchise changer.

Sharpe had better produce or grow thick skin quickly. 'Cause **** is about to get real. I hate the NBA but, it's a business and owners don't take kindly to guys who fall well short of their hype or hurt their bottomline.

Evidently this guy didn’t get the memo Cal put out about not saying mean things about Sharpe.

Has he worked out for any teams and if so did he do anything with other players? Seems like all he wanted to do was individual stuff and show his athleticism but was shying away from team activities probably at the recommendation of his agent due to not showing top 5 talent.

Agree with that GM. But it just takes 1 GM, who doesn't want to miss out, who is enamored with a player for any odd reason.

If I were an NBA GM:
Picks 1-10, I'm taking the one with the highest floor
Picks 11-20, I'm taking the one with the highest projection
Picks 21+, I'm taking the one with the highest ceiling (unless serious playoff contender who just has a specific need to fill)
You're right JonathanW. It just takes one. I suppose it is just human nature to be so intrigued by an unknown like this kid, and being afraid to miss on a guy who could potentially be the next MJ or Kobe. What are the chances this kid becomes that? Very slim. But does it matter? Not really. It matters to some that he hasn't played in a year and a half. It matters to some that he's a gamble. But if one GM decides he's worth that gamble, that will do it.

I hope he never plays a day in the NBA, and ends up back on the block, telling everyone about the "glory days" of sitting on UKs bench and driving a Porsche. Oh yeah, and I hope his "handlers" starve to death.
