Hightower, Sig Ep; 110 North Nash street upper;Triangle Townhouses hwy 25 S

...

just since I was a freshman (1987), the following residence halls don't even exist anymore (feel free to add to it if I missed any):

Hamiln (The UN) - got stuck there my freshman year with a guy from Winslow, AZ named Homer. He was gone by Christmas.
Suttle
Boomerangs (Smith, Critz, Duggar, Hightower).
Evans

And it looks like Rice is now empty.

These freshmens (Stansbury emphasis) today have it made with the new buildings.

my son graduated in engineering in may 18. He had 27 hrs at the local community college here in SC. all that was summers and during his high school time, spent 4 yrs at State as well. Graduated in 4 yrs, would have been 5 if not for the community college. Thankfully his tuition was paid for by MSU, so I had the other half to pay for(living, etc).

3rd floor Hightower in 92/93
Year in JUCO
University Commons where I had the joy of having Pikes as two of my roommates. They would regularly sight their bow and 22 in on their bedroom walls. Came in one afternoon and everything was just funny as hell. I mean everything. I asked them what they had been smoking but was not prepared for the answer. Turns out it was the foam out of a couch they got at the Salvation Army. They had run out of weed and couldn't find anything to get them high. Turns out they had tried coffe ground and parsley when one of them had the bright idea of couch cushion foam. Mission accomplished. 17ed them right up good and proper. When I mentioned the formaldehyde content of the foam they looked at me and then declared if that was what did it then it was some good ****.

Was in Sessums Fall 92-Spring 93. We had a couple of guys who used lighter fluid to burn their initials into the hallway carpet in front of their doors. Which then turned into two long lines of lighter fluid down the entire length of the hallway, which were then lit to see which one would have the flame reach the end of the hall first.

It is.

If I'd done the juco route my first year or two, I would likely be in another profession.

I also would not have gotten to know quite a few folks at MSU too.

I lived in 2nd floor of Hightower freshman year 1995-96. My sophomore year I lived in another dorm that isn't there that noone else has mentioned. Arbor Acres. I lived with some of my friends from Hightower. Glad I lived on campus my freshman year. I made some lifelong friends during that time. I can honestly say if I had gone to JUCO a year or two, my number of friends from State would be probably less than half of what it is.

Was the first person to live in my room in Oak Hall. Had a random roommate and I may have spoken to him 5 times. Nice dude, but we were just in to completely different things. Lived in the E Dome for 2 years and then moved onto 521 University Dr. Probably would've been more mature had I done JUCO for a year, but I would only know about a quarter of the people I met at State. Freshman year is just an awesome experience cause you're literally meeting new people every day and everything you do is new to you. Wouldn't trade that experience for anything.

I wouldn’t have had the GPA to get into my graduate program if I had spent all four years at State, so it helped me out in more ways than one. Great option, IMO.

I knew of one guy from Belize residing in Hamlin in the early 90s when I was there too.

Rice should have been condemned 15 years ago when I was a freshman. Tnly good thing about it was the ease of sneaking in. I lived in Creswell across the street before it was coed. Ruby was the only coed dorm and it was brand new - I hear it's the old dorm now.

I was in Duggar freshman year, but admit I didn't spend a lot of time in my room. I had a random that never seemed to leave the room.

Critz is still hanging on but others are gone, new parking lot going in where other boomerangs were.
I'm a Suttle Hall alum, 1982. No cable tv (except lobby), no internet/streaming, no cell phones, how did I ever survive?

I'm surprised Critz is still standing. It was a dump when I moved in the Fall of 1965. I lived there my entire freshman year, then had a semester in McKee, lived in Hamlin one summer (without air conditioning ... not a biggie in the other dorms, but Hamlin had no ventilation since it was designed for cooling). My last two years I spent in Suttle, and it was basically a castle then ... very nice and relative luxury compared to the others. I was in Suite 936, the highest number in the building. I understand later residents virtually destroyed the place (shame on them), which led to the University actually tearing the building down at some point.

Paid my son's 1st semester freshman tuition yesterday. $10,503 with room, meal plan, tuition, cap imp fee and lab fee. Actual tuition was $4,400. I think he's got 16 hours. He did have some scholarship to reduce my out of pocket. I got home yesterday and said, "I probably don't need to say this, but I just paid your tuition today. Don't go down there and 17 up."

That's probably about what inflation has caused since I was there. I remember my last semster in the Spring of 1970 was something like $930, which included all the classes I could stand (I took 20 hours that semester) and a room in Suttle. Food was not included, nor were books. I was paying for it myself from money earned as a co-op student, so I knew not to screw up.

I lived in Hull also. Used to be the honors dorm. Absolutely right about the location.

I was in Hull for Freshman and Sophomore years. Best location on campus by far. It also was setup less like a hotel with the community bathrooms, so I met everybody on my floor. Made a lot of good friends there.

Garner - 91-92
Duggar - 92-93
Suttle - 93-95 (RA)

Garner and Duggar were coed in my time (girls on one side and boys on the other)
We had access to cable, but internet was limited to computer rooms. Lots of mofos on probation and out the door for sitting in computer rooms all night playing MUDD or on IRC
RA in Suttle helped to pay some bills but it was loud and noisy with smoke clouds emitting from many suites.
