Amendment Proposals IHSA

the reason private schools have t challenged is that they know a high percentage breaking many of the rules especially around recruiting, off season practices and camps.

if they win in court, it will be a hollow victory because the same people they won against will start citing private schools and their feeders over every minor rules violation
Who is gonna govern over of all this. It’s the IHSA not the fbi.
These amendments are all smoke n mirrors for whoever brought them up to puff up their chest

Is the proposed 15 mile radius a solution in search of a problem?

The safety issue given as rationale is laughable.
So a kid who lives at 115th and Homan could not play football at Walter Payton College Prep. Makes sense.

“Breaking the rules?” The only thing private schools are doing different than there public school counterparts are out working them and putting in the time needed to succeed. With a fraction of the resources. It must suck to strive for mediocrity.

Read the IHSA rule book front to back. It is nearly impossible to give a school tour, promote a shadow day, have a captain's practice or answer any basic questions without breaking a rule.

Only time I remember this being enforced was coach frank being suspended for a few games
Please correct me if I’m wrong.

I won’t comment on your allegations. And I won’t agree that those allegations are the reason the privates haven’t gone to court.

But I will allow you that discovery during a trial may not go well for both sides. The discovery could lead, more probable than not, to dissolution of the organization, a death sentence step that a bureaucrat could not risk for a salty administrator anywhere. So they’ve walked the fine line since 1974 and would rather slow boil the frog then rip it’s head off. But this proposal seems to do this.

“The IHSA governs the equitable participation in interscholastic athletics and activities that enrich the educational experience.”

Shadow days provide prospective grammar school students to experience a normal school day at said school. They have absolutely zero to do with sports or any extra curricular activities.

Open houses provide Parents along with prospective students a chance to tour the facilities and also have absolutely nothing to do with sports.

Never even heard of a “captains practice”. That must be something public schools are doing and breaking the rules.

The IHSA DOES NOT IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FASHION GOVERN HOW PRIVATE SCHOOLS RECRUIT PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS

None of your examples are in any way shape or form being done for athletic purposes.

Proposal 3;The 15 mile rule would be a killer for private schools. Many would not be able to keep their doors open with this change.

Proposal 4 doesnt make any sense either.
Probably proposed by somebody Upstate who doesn't know, or just a t doesn't CARE about collateral damage to downstate schools. South of Will County. I know of NO private schools within 30 miles if each other, let alone 15 - IF you take into account the different religious bodies that run them. The upshot is the rule would force kids to choose between
1. Giving up sports
2. Going to public school which does not teach the value the child and family think valuable
Or
3. Going t o a private school whose values are actually at odds with his own.

I can't think this will fly but we've seen that there are no limits to how far some public school officials will go to try to cripple private programs

Loyola, Rice, Providence, Notre Dame, Carmel Catholic, Marist, Marian Catholic, and Benet all have marching bands.

What's your point?
Is that all? Wow. Even the tiniest public schools have a marching band. And yet the extracurricular activities like (arts/music, etc.) at some of the football powerhouses appear to be limited or nonexistent. Joliet Catholic: 15 football titles... marching band?? Mount Carmel: 13 football titles... marching band: zip.

In order to be in the same class as SHG or JCA, Pitstick would have to have around 600 students in its high school. With 3000 people in the entire town, we are looking at 1 in 5 people being in high school. Did they film "Children of the Corn" in Pitstick?
Pitstick is a fictional example, Sun, obviously.

JCA has a band. It's small, but they've had one for a number of years.

Reading this thread makes me yearn for a very supple NIPL for us to cling to as a collective. The accolades would flow like milk. Viva la NIPL!
I have always supported NIPL, in every shape or form.

Wow, marching bands are some kind of barometer for you? smh What will you wacky public school apologists think of next?

Even the tiniest PUBLIC schools have a marching band? Read it and weep:

New Trier, with its FOUR THOUSAND AND NINE students, has ZIP for a marching band. God knows, they sure aren't sacrificing music in favor focusing on being a powerhouse football program! If they are, someone better tell them to stop throwing good money after bad! And they are a HUGE school. Guess they must be a crappy school, huh? https://newtriernews.org/features/2018/11/30/what-happened-to-the-marching-band/

No marching band at Vernon Hills HS either. They should change their nickname from Cougars to Neanderthals, right?

The public/private debate is about as old and tired as you can get. However, whenever one comes up there's always someone who throws a new angle out there, but using the marching band as a measuring stick is a new one to me. It makes zero sense, but it did make me laugh.

Want to know how I am positive Hinsdale has a marching band? There are a lot more options for seats between the 40s after half-time.

If these things are going on now, cite their asses then. Cite the public schools committing the same offenses as well. What is the IHSA waiting for? Put up or shut up, I say!
Last year a coach from school A was texting players from school B asking them if they were willing to transfer to school A and play football. The players told the coach of team B who took screen shots of the texts and filed a complaint with the IHSA who opted to do nothing. The IHSA really has no interest in enforcement so you have schools looking to make stupid rules trying to do what the IHSA should be doing.

Let’s see the evidence!!! If you’re so privy to all the dirty dealing and misgivings you must have the proof? And you must have proof that public schools are engaging in the same behavior? So unless you want to put it out there! Shut up or put up because anything less is just slander and nonsense. I’m done!

I heard from a good Source that multiple public high school coaches from the Dupage area were contacting players A, B and C who attend private schools attempting to persuade them to transfer promising cars and free apartments.

See how this works? Enough already!

MC has a band. They don’t March but they have one and perform at school functions. And a drum line that performs at the home game. And a guitar section that takes lessons at MC. And a Choir that performs at Mass, Christmas shows and other events. We have about 600 male students...out of the 100 that may play an instrument probably 80 of them are drums and trumpet. Hard to find a flute and clarinet section! They do the best which what they have.

And slandering private schools on this thread without a shred of evidence kills your theories.
Slander- making false and damaging statements about someone.

Have the offended parties sue me it would be amazing. Just because you have your head in the sand it doesn’t mean everyone else does.

What part of this isn’t clear to you. You want to make accusations at well respected institutions then present the evidence. No evidence then move on and keep your mouth shut. I’d love to know what private school kid pissed in your wheaties at some point in your bitter life. You obviously have an agenda here against private schools. Maybe you just didn’t cut the mustard to compete and play as a kid? Maybe your own kid was shunned? Whatever the case it couldn’t be clearer your animosity here. One thing that’s for sure you’re definitely a CLOWN @ClownBaby
