I went to a Moe’s the other day and went through the line and got a jr burrito, chips & queso and a regular drink, $16. Then, when I get ready to pay, the machine asks if I want to tip. I could have passed but I didn’t, I chose 10%. I don’t always do that, but I was feeling generous. If you think about this scenario though, it’s almost as though the person checking you out is saying “your total is $16 dollars sir, but are you sure you don’t want to make it $17.60 for absolutely no reason whatsoever?”
Tipping is for service, it’s not a surcharge on something you’re already paying a ridiculous amount of money for anyway. The $16 already included the actual making of the burrito and placing it on a tray for me. I had to pour my own drink. Tipping is getting out of hand for some things, no doubt.
