I don’t care how harsh you guys are. Just let me know what you think...

Am I a prick for not really caring about what happens to our players after they leave UK?
I rarely follow where they sign, never care how much they get paid and barely watch their games. And I’m not an NBA hater.

Thoughts? There have to be some of you that feel the same.

Back in the early to mid 90's, I did care. I loved the NBA from the late 80's to the mid 90's. I couldn't wait to watch the draft. I became somewhat of a Mavs fan when they drafted Mashburn. I checked the box scores everyday in the paper to see how he did.

Why do you talk so much about things you dont care about? I dont care about the ballet, you will never see me going on a rant about the ballet because why?

Can hold any point of view you choose, where this helps is when Cal is gone and the amount of players still in NBA or that make a mark in NBA and make generational $$$$ are still playing, they'll have an allegiance to the program and some will get into coaching/want to come back. As long as successors understand how to operate at a program like UK, it's set them up for success moving far beyond Cal's actual work on sidelines. If they want to break away from what Cal's done in terms of reaching back to past players/teams,embracing/creating some new history for UK then it will be a massive PR mistake, but hard to screw up at a place like Kentucky unless you try. No, you’re not a D-bag for not caring about their careers after they leave. The NBA isn’t for everyone—especially considering no NBA team is in Kentucky.

You ARE a D-bag if you scoff at other fans who take pride in former players’ accomplishments in the NBA, or use the NBA as a means to criticize the program or fans’ interests as a whole. That happens from time to time here.

I personally really enjoy the NBA now more than ever since UK players aren’t so sporadically placed on teams, but to each their own. The fans who irrationally hate the NBA and/or get mad anytime a player leaves for the draft are taking it a bit far.

If you then I guess I am too. I want them all to do well, but don't follow the NBA hardly at all, so by extension I don't follow our guys either.

Also forgot to mention, at some point some of these guys are going to have sons who want to play and odds are they'll be very good. Bloodlines matter and never hurts to have a Blueblood program that helped make their Dad hundreds of millions of $ being an alma mater. Then again, Cal/Payne are special in terms of loyalty so need to have next coach understand that connection/embrace the success of Cal and do so while being own personality. Hard to do but had former Minnesota Gopher and current Wolves Announcer Jim Peterson once tell me he wishes he'd have gone to Duke (he originally committed there when Bill Foster was coaching and stayed home after he was let go for Coach K who was unknown from Army at time) because of the bond the players from programs like UK, UNC, Duke, Kansas, etc...share when they play against each other or travel in the NBA. Said it's special to those programs and lacking at the regular schools.

He'd know far better than I would seeing he was a longtime Pro and still covers the league now.

I just hate the nba. During the season, i asked my son who played for who, etc. I think I only got Wall, KAT, Booker and Murray. Didn’t know cousins was at golden state or Bledsoe was in Milwaukee

The first few years, I’d check box scores, but I don’t think I have checked s box score for around three years

I want our players to perform well and kick ***, just because they're UK guys, but I don't watch the NBA regular season.

I watch certain playoff games and the NBA Finals. If there are UK guys playing, I hope they light it up, but I only watch for a few minutes.

Honestly, I would rather watch an old lady knit blankets than watch a regular season NBA game.

I wouldn't say a D-Bag. Maybe embarrassingly self-important to think that anyone cares in the slightest how you feel about the NBA or Kentucky players once they leave Lexington. But that's not a D-Bag level sin.
This is more of the reply that I thought was a possibility.

I care because NBA rep is a huge part of this. I’ve said this before, those of you who grew up in the 90’s and had to deal with UNC and their saying “place of the pros” understands.

It’s big for UK to have these guys in the league. Always has been.

After that, I don’t care. The NBA is all business today. Most of them don’t even care what happens.

I’m not a big NBA fan but care about our fb and bb players and want them to do well post UK.
Btw do you care if Jared Lorenzen pulls out of his health crisis?

Just kidding, of course. I'm not much of an NBA guy. My son loves it so I take him to Wizards games to see former Wildcats. The arena is always crawling with people wearing UK gear obviously doing the same. That's when I realized it was important to the Kentucky program.

Me personally, I hope all our former players do great things, have the successes they strive for, be it financial or career goals and have fulfilling lives.

I hope they also keep UK in their heart like all of us.
I always enjoy reading about and seeing former players come back, give to the program, and rep their school.

All that said, I don’t really follow them except to read some posts on this site how shai did last game or how boogie is doing.

I just don’t follow the nba.

Yes, of course. But not sure caring about Jared Lorenzens health equates. I wouldn’t want Tyler Herro or Devin Booker to pass away either.

I don’t really get all that invested on who goes where and their stats and contracts etc. But I like watching basketball including the NBA so I will obviously root harder for a UK guy to succeed and win.

I don't watch the NBA either. But their success reflect on the program. The more cats on the all star team, making deep runs in the playoffs the more UK gets mentioned. Kids hear that.

I dont follow the NBA until playoff time. I dont follow the NFL until playoff time.......... but I follow both sports in college so I dont really give much of a crap what our guys do after leaving in either sport.
