How long has the Throat Slash been called a unsportsmanlike penalty, 10 years? It just amazes me that anyone would even consider doing that for a celebration. It just reeks of an uncoachable player and someone who is just out for themselves. It reminds me of those kids we have seen on Last Chance U and it is obvious why they are there even though they have more talent than that. Information just does not seem to penetrate and doing the right things are just foreign to players like that. I can accept some of the other penalties we had, but that should be an immediate removal from the game by the coaches.

Can't complain about the refs. They let the teams play generally but i could not argue with what was called on us.

I am not an offensive genius, but we need to have plays with snaps under center when we are 1 yard from the goal line or first down line, especially if the only play you got is QB run. Also there needs to be some sort of RB screen plays so Kylin Hill can start in some space once in a blue moon.

Not sure if I have ever seen such a one sided game end in a loss. Could have just forfeited and saved us 4 hours.

I am going to chalk it up to a learning year. I just hope Joe shows that he has learned something. It was just a shame to have that defense and not help them offensively in so many games.

I know swag and confidence are a part of it but I also know human nature will cause a ref to favor a disciplined team that quietly goes about their business and lets their "game" do their talking. In my mind our on the field lack of discipline is causing problems on several levels...pissing off the refs is one of them. This should be more obvious to the HC than anyone BUT if you're as clueless as Moorhead seems to be...................

Regarding the trash talking on defense. Simmons and abram do a long, drawn-out look at me, me, me celebration on every play they make. Granted, they are the most talented on the defense, and can back it up with their play, but the less talented and younger guys see them doing that crap, and think they need to do it, too. Leaders lead. And Simmons and abram were their leaders. That’s how culture breeds in a team. And how you get a bunch of stupid, undisciplined penalties all year long. The coaches and captains are supposed to get a handle on that kind of stuff. Geri is a super guy, but a vocal captain he isn’t. The coaches let the guys listen to media talk about how good they were, and never clamped down on it all year. So, you end up with players doing stupid **** that cost the team.

Regarding the offensive play calling and execution, and dumb coaching mistakes that should never still be present by the end of the year, I have two words.

Agree 100%. All the trash talking and look at me gestures after a tackle has to influence the way the refs view a game. We need more discipline.

That “tackle” was a pancake block. Those won’t get called. Nothing about that setup block was illegal. I thought it was a lot worse when I saw it live, but on replay, it was just a good block.

The only way to block Simmons is to hold Him--but they never call it. it looks like He could get the mandatory one hold a game call. The Pass Interference call was incorrect. The stupid penalties are mind blowing but the dagger in our heart is we have no SEC caliber WRs. Not 1 frigging one. Dak had Lewis-Brown -Ross and the Bear. **** --Fitz has Osiris and then zero. is it Illegal for us to throw a slant to one of our 6'4 wrs? Good teams stack the box and JOMO has no answer. What are the rules on blocking downfield?

I've tried to attach a still shot of the ball in the air. The Iowa guys started blocking as soon as they contacted our players down field. It was mentioned that the slot blocking Abram reached out and grabbed him. He is doing that in this pic. The blocker's left arm is hidden but he was clearly reaching out to grab Abram with his left arm when watching the video. As Abram tried to turn to chase the receiver down the sideline, the blocker was able to get him to the ground when Abram turned. It's not so much the completion of blocking him to the ground that looks like a penalty but the reaching way outside his body to engage him by grabbing Abram with the left hand.

With regard to blocking down field, what is the rule when the ball is in the air. Can the blockers block before the ball is caught? I think in the still it looked like the receiver was a couple of yards downfield, but he came back a little toward the line when he caught the ball.
