17ng Desoto. For “allegedly” the best public school systems in the state there’s sure a lot of dumbasses here.

Who here doesn't have set of "hold my beer" friends that are completely lacking in self-awareness, common sense and above average IQ? They generally make up for it in entertainment value, albeit not in COVID season...

480 new tests reported today with 71 new positives = 14.80% new positives reported today - Prior to today 1392 tests with 249 positives = 17.89% positive results prior to today's report. Mississippi is testing a lot more people now, so there will be more positive results. Hopefully the % of positive results will continue to decrease. We all knew that there were a helluva lot more than 249 people with the virus in Mississippi.

I do. In fact this person is a physician in about the highest risk sector possible. Seems to have a complete lack of concern.

At the end of April the stats will look much different, not just in MS but all over the country as the sample sizes increase exponentially.

If only people could use logic and realize that the rate of increase in reported cases does not mean increases in the rate of total infections. It probably tracks more closely with test availability and by the time that we get enough testing capability in place to test it just as easily as the flu, we will likely find out that it tracks pretty closely to the flu in many cases (the length of time contagious without symptoms being the obvious overarching threat).

Well in my experience those folks are largely invincible, rising from the ashes of poorly thought out stunts for nearly their whole life, they seem to survive things that would easily kill mere mortals. There should be a study of them.

I know of someone that found out yesterday that they were a positive but our county's numbers haven't changed since last week

All positives, including from outside labs, are included in the stats. Only tests actually handled by MDH are included in the number of tests stat. Both of those statements are on the website.

and let's not forget as more people are tested via the antibody blood tests coming on line we'll start to get some picture of whose had the virus and never knew they had it or had a mild case and never got treated. I still think this will be a significant number.

what currently healthy person is going to get an antibody test any time soon? Did I miss something?

Yea, those seem like relatively good numbers. I can't find the numbers off hand, but I think we've had something like 60's, 60's, 42, and now 71 new cases over the last four days. If you look at the MSDH graph on number of cases by start date of symptoms, we have one good day of data and will find out over the next few days whether that's a blip or whether we really have already flattened the curve.

So that is good news - the actual % of positive test results is actually much lower than 14.8% and/or 17.89% that I stated.

Would the percentage be more accurate if we said 14% of those who thought they had it and actually were able to get tested were found to be positive?

If we quit citing percentages we’ll be better off. The percentages reported and repeated here are not accurate, so why include a number set that doesn’t reflect reality?

I know at least 10 people who swear they have it, but we’re advised not to get tested, just isolate.

Were they denied testing because they didn't have the symptoms? Or because the symptoms matched up perfectly enough that they didn't think they needed testing?

Other good news here is that MS's hospitalization rate remains low and, while still early, the fact that we have only fatality is surprising.

I have a friend who was sent home with advice that she probably has it (after an x-ray) and that she should self quarantine. They didnt test her because they weren't going to admit her. Her symptoms were getting scarier (they went to the hospital when she was having difficulty breathing) but I think she'll come out of it soon. Shes had the cough and fever for about a week.

Denied testing due to scarcity and knowing they probably had it, but didn’t pose a need to be hospitalized.
