It’s shocking the extent to which Rutgers has consistently sucked shooting the 3. Men’s, women’s, always the same thing. Pike needs to get shooters. Like every coach before him.
It’s only one game but 7% is far cry from the 35% some people were hoping for..lol. We can improve a little from last year but we simply don’t have shooters. It’s shocking the extent to which Rutgers has consistently sucked shooting the 3. Men’s, women’s, always the same thing. There really was legit half dozen in and outsI know this is a crappy response but there were so many shots that were halfway down tonight. Though I agree 7% is inexcusable regardless.
Shooting threes well is such a difference maker and momemtum breaker. The ones Rutgers took were generally good wide open shots but just wouldn't go in.It’s shocking the extent to which Rutgers has consistently sucked shooting the 3. What does it even mean to say that bad shooting is “inexcusable”?inexcusable and there will be other games they shoot 1-14 I guarantee
Pike doesn’t care about offense he openly says it to everyone who listens. I will not waste breath or key strokes talking about how bad our shooting is for another year.
7% is a stupid number so I won’t get worked up with that it’s an outlier. But we don’t prioritize offense in practice and we don’t prioritize it on the recruiting trail.
This year Pike has said it’s his favorite team and I believe him, because it’s built to scrap defensively. But offensively it’s a mess.
I think there are enough pieces on this roster good enough to make a good offense (to Pikiells credit) but I don’t think Pikiell is interested in getting there.
Don’t do that. He wants to score points he just prefers, openly, to dedicate a large majority of his time and effort working to stop teams from scoring points over scoring his own. He has said it over and over and over.So you think our head coach doesn’t want to score points?
With the right defense, 1 point is all we need to win?So you think our head coach doesn’t want to score points?

Horrible, but it's just one game - I actually think we'll be fine from deep and really waiting to see Jones light it up from deep (as we heard he did in those scrimmages). It’s shocking the extent to which Rutgers has consistently sucked shooting the 3. The score is 0-0, with 10 seconds left. Geo has the ball outside the three point line..With the right defense, 1 point is all we need to win?
He also had one that went in and out from 3Horrible, but it's just one game - I actually think we'll be fine from deep and really waiting to see Jones light it up from deep (as we heard he did in those scrimmages).
It’s really not one game though. Outside of Jones there aren’t new shooting faces really. Pretty much the same group that couldn’t consistently shoot ever.Horrible, but it's just one game - I actually think we'll be fine from deep and really waiting to see Jones light it up from deep (as we heard he did in those scrimmages).

that for normal teams that are of NCAA quality they have better 3 point shooting, for where our program is at, we are inexcusably bad at finding those who can consistently hit 3s..make no mistakes we are closer to the 1-14 team than the one that goes off for 12-18
Duke has multiple National Championships and is historically a great shooting team. We are the opposite of Duke.Oh sure but when Duke shoots 1-13 everyone is ready to crown them.
It was one game, but Jones was a disaster on defense yesterday. When he was in, it was like we handed Lehigh free lanes to the basket. Now if we had a defensive guy like JY in with him to provide weak side help, we may be in a position to cover this up better. Right now we just don’t. It’s mostly an issue of coming up with a combo of 4 guys that Jones can play with that can stop a serviceable offense on the defensive end (and this was Evident against powerhouse Lehigh.. sigh).I dont like that Caleb is getting 34 minutes out of 45, Paul 38 out of 45 and Jones only 10.

Perhaps…but the D was terrible last night.Pike doesn’t care about offense he openly says it to everyone who listens. I will not waste breath or key strokes talking about how bad our shooting is for another year.

I think that all comes down to the way Pike values defense over offense. And it's probably why Jones didnt get any real playing time second half of last yearI dont like that Caleb is getting 34 minutes out of 45, Paul 38 out of 45 and Jones only 10.
For division 1 college players, 3 point shots are not (should not be) very hard. I've played with a lot of guys over the years who, given a bit of space/time, hit them like clockwork. What separates great shooters from not-so-great shooters is their ability to make the shots while under intense pressure, with a defender all over them. It's hard to make 3-point shots. Just shoot from close distance and be happy with 2. We don't need 3-point shooters. There is too much emphasis on 3-point shots. I rather shoot a high-percentage 2-point shot.
That's fine, but to beat good 3 point shooting teams, you need to be elite from 2 point range. That means strong and consistent low post and midrange scoring. It remains to be seen if we have those kinds of players. It's hard to make 3-point shots. Just shoot from close distance and be happy with 2. We don't need 3-point shooters. Poor 3 or shooting is disappointing, but I was more concerned with being out rebounded by them.
I like your sense of humor making the case of what could have happened with mediocre 3 point shooting.Fan concern should be focused on the fact that most of the minutes are allocated to very experienced players who have shown little improvement in 3 point shooting.Such performances against B1G rivals will put Rutgers in a precarious position .The worst 3pt shooting team in D1 last year shot 25.7% (Chicago St). We shot 31.2%, good for 286th in the nation. If we shot our usual miserable 31.2%, we win by double digits.
I wanted Myles to come off the bench at the 3 minute mark to save those first 2 fouls he would get at the start. And they scored a lot of points in the paint. Most of them really easy layups. Part of me was thinking how Myles would've changed that aspect really quickly. I think Cliff has the same potential , but just like Myles .. he has to learn to be an interior defensive deterient without fouling. Took Myles awhile to learn that and he never quite perfected it.
