Striv.tv might have it since 6 man isn't sanctioned by the NSAA.

I know Riverside has a Striv.tv account and the Academy streams sometimes on highschoolcube.com.

The game is going to be held in Kearney at UNK not at either school. Isn't this a little little out of either schools hands? Its the six man football state championship and your trying to tell me that no one gas a clue as to the precedence I understand they aren't NSAA sanctioned but someone has to know the answer to this question. Although this is the first year for either school to be back it isn't a first for this format to be used.

A little confused what you're asking. As far as official streams or broadcasts, no I'm pretty sure there isn't one. Why this is, I don't know. Ask NET. There is probably a good chance though either the Academy or Riverside will stream the game online however. I know the Academy has streamed away games at times this year, so its definitely a possibility.

While nothing is official, we are working to see about the possibilty of getting the game on the Striv Riverside channel. We'll update this thread as we know more.

I'd love to be in the town of Spalding this week to hear the chatter.

I wish 6 man was sanctioned by the NSAA.

I think it was more on the public school side, (which I heard from a few people who grew up in Spalding, but no longer live there, but still stay in touch with the community.) but the tension seemed to be on both sides. It's really sad to see though.

Elgin/Pope John make it work, why couldn't Spalding keep it going?

It wasnt anyones fault. The area on the public school side of things had some very difficult decisions to make. Numbers played a role for everyone looking at the long term picture. Four districts- (listed in alphabetical order) Cedar Rapids, Greeley-Wolbach, North Loup-Scotia, and Spalding all had decisions to make. All of them trying to do the best by their towns for as long as possible. In the end Academy was offered to coop an agreement couldn't be reached in the time frame that had to happen for football declarations. Its been a ride but the young men and fans on both sides will play and cheer their hearts out celebrate a win and console or congratulate their neighbors.

Honestly, I don't think you'll find many 6-man coaches that want it sanctioned. They like being able to meet up and figure out their own schedules. I know a few coaches that think what they have right now is probably better than what they'd have if the NSAA was running it.

I believe the NSAA had said in the past that if 6-Man ever got to 16 or more teams, they would be willing to sanction again. They have 18 teams now and I believe the schools/coaches voted to stay with their own association rather than returning to NSAA control.

Let's just say it was a mutual agreement. Public pushed for the merger with Cedar Rapids because eventually their doors would have closed. Riverside did everything they could to come to an agreement with the Academy to co-op. In the end the two sides just couldn't make it work. Sad thing is that there is probably too many bridges burned for a future co-op to ever happen. Hope im wrong though.

It is sad to see I agree. You wonder how long Riverside and the Academy will last, with being how small they are already. I still can't believe St. Edward is still going alone. I really think you could just take all those schools in and form a Boone County High School. To me it makes the most sense. Or at least have St. Edward join Albion or Riverside.

It is sad. From an outsider looking in (with some inside info), if you ask those who are pro-Academy it's the public schools fault and if you ask those who are pro-public school it's the Academy's fault. I think the problem stems back even further when the Academy and public school first co-op'd in sports back in '98ish. The really sad part is that the issues at hand where (in my opinion) 1) such minor issues made into big issues, like should there be a cross on the Knights shield or not at the perish center in Spalding 2) lots rumors between both sides that turned into "well this group said that and that group said this" when probably most of those rumors weren't true, but you know how info gets twisted around and spreads like wildfire (especially in a small town).

It's crazy to think how dominate Greeley-Wolbach was when they first consolidated and now they have to co-op with 2 other town to make a team. There will be a day when Spalding public, Greeley, Wolback, Cedar Rapids, North Loup, Scotia and St Edwards will all co-op to make 1 school (give or take a town or two).

The Knox County consolidation study sounded very familiar to the feasibility study results with the schools mentioned in this thread. Ultimately it comes down to it is hard enough for 2 schools to consolidate let alone 3 to 5. Adults remember tradition and history. Kids they just want the best options for the activities they enjoy.

There is the thought that without a school your town will die- which came first the chicken or the egg? Is a school consolidating because a town is fading or is the town fading because there aren't as many kids in school? They probably work hand in hand- both contributing to the situation. The kids for the most part tend to get along very well with consolidations but they have difficult decisions to make. Do they stay? Do they opt out? Its a sad situation and for the most part you try to make the best decisions at the time and run with what you have. You hope in the end to minimize the angst that kids and adults feel. In the rural part of Nebraska its a lot of miles no matter which way you go but that is what the rural areas of the state are going to be faced with in the future as unfortunate as it sounds.

Now lets get back to the real story at hand- the big game. Its gonna be cold, its gonna be fun and in the end I do believe players on both sides will show class representing the Greeley/Boone/Nance county regions well. This game will inevitably be divided with people having mixed emotions. The countdown continues but in less than 48 hours there will be seniors and their parents on both sides lamenting that this stage in life is over. It will be a game to remember for the players and coaches, the parents, the area and the state. Good luck to the Riverside Chargers and the Spalding-Academy Shamrocks. (in alphabetical order) May both teams be safe. 43 hours and 37 minutes to kick off.
