I think it was more on the public school side, (which I heard from a few people who grew up in Spalding, but no longer live there, but still stay in touch with the community.) but the tension seemed to be on both sides. It's really sad to see though.Originally posted by broomboy:
So who exactly broke off the relationship, Academy or Spalding High?
Honestly, I don't think you'll find many 6-man coaches that want it sanctioned. They like being able to meet up and figure out their own schedules. I know a few coaches that think what they have right now is probably better than what they'd have if the NSAA was running it.Originally posted by northeastNebraska:
I wish 6 man was sanctioned by the NSAA.
I believe the NSAA had said in the past that if 6-Man ever got to 16 or more teams, they would be willing to sanction again. They have 18 teams now and I believe the schools/coaches voted to stay with their own association rather than returning to NSAA control.Originally posted by unavailableusername:

Let's just say it was a mutual agreement. Public pushed for the merger with Cedar Rapids because eventually their doors would have closed. Riverside did everything they could to come to an agreement with the Academy to co-op. In the end the two sides just couldn't make it work. Sad thing is that there is probably too many bridges burned for a future co-op to ever happen. Hope im wrong though.Originally posted by northeastNebraska:

Elgin/Pope John make it work, why couldn't Spalding keep it going?

It is sad to see I agree. You wonder how long Riverside and the Academy will last, with being how small they are already. I still can't believe St. Edward is still going alone. I really think you could just take all those schools in and form a Boone County High School. To me it makes the most sense. Or at least have St. Edward join Albion or Riverside.Originally posted by nu182:

It is sad. From an outsider looking in (with some inside info), if you ask those who are pro-Academy it's the public schools fault and if you ask those who are pro-public school it's the Academy's fault. I think the problem stems back even further when the Academy and public school first co-op'd in sports back in '98ish. The really sad part is that the issues at hand where (in my opinion) 1) such minor issues made into big issues, like should there be a cross on the Knights shield or not at the perish center in Spalding 2) lots rumors between both sides that turned into "well this group said that and that group said this" when probably most of those rumors weren't true, but you know how info gets twisted around and spreads like wildfire (especially in a small town).Originally posted by northeastNebraska:
