Yea as long it continues to fall your contribution plus any matching you get from your employer will buy you more “stock” than it would have a cpl months ago

Looks to be a bloodbath in the making. Russia / Saudi may have pulled the plug on most anyone else being able to reallocate to cash before the bottom drops out.

Wondering if the Saudis were really aiming at Iran with this move to flood the oil market with supply and push prices down? Or maybe they figured they could put Russia in its place and just get an added benefit of finishing off what's left of the Iranian economy.

Expect another .75 rate decrease at the 3/18 meeting.
Also, if you can, wait to buy gas. Those prices should be taking a tumble.

We may be talking 20 dollar oil and sub dollar gas before it’s over.

That'd be insane. It was what- 12 years ago when it hit the $160s? Trucks were declared obsolete, $5/gal gas was coming, and we would all soon be driving alternative energy vehicles.
...those predictions havent aged well.

Bought into some of the "dip" last week. Looks like the dip may not be over.

If those with a strong stomach can see through the clouds and realize this coronavirus issue will be forgotten by summertime, then I believe those will be rewarded in then end.

Does anybody think maybe the market has been overheated and has been looking for excuses to correct?

I remember back when the Market crosses that Historical mark of 1000! It has flirted with 30000 this year. This stuff is Vegasesque.

For sure. Its been going up quarter after quarter without traditionally justified reasons. It was 100% going to happen at/around election time, unless some surprise happened before. A virus scare that is affecting large economies is that very surprise.

Saw that the oil price relates to about negative $3500 for every gas truck on the road today

I Thought I had prematurely transferred to a money market when the NYSE was at about 26800 last Monday as I had already lost a little at that time; However, I am now thinking about getting back into a T Rowe Price 2030 retirement fund.. Although maybe I should just sit back and watch for a moment longer.

Yep. Then along came better methods for extracting oil in the US and we became the top oil producer. The US is certainly natural resource rich and that's a huge benefit that I'm not sure we often think about. Woke up this morning and turned on a tap to get clean water? Be thankful...

Can't sell high if you don't buy low. Gas prices will be nice for the next several weeks if not months.

Those horizontal wells are so expensive to drill and complete that very few of them could turn a profit at $70 barrel. Unless we are going to withdraw from the global market and pay artificially high prices for oil produced in the US, there is no reason to drill right now. And I am not advocating for that in the least. The Saudis and the Russians have teamed up to deliver a major blow to the domestic oil industry on top of decreased demand due to Covid 19.

Sure. If it global oil ends up less per barrel than we can produce then the script flips. We just have some built in price protection because there are methods to get oil in the US that work at a certain price point. The aforementioned $160/bbl being one of those.

I’ve put off investing in a second property for the last decade, but I’m about to be enticed into pulling the trigger. I haven’t done enough research to see how these rates will play into HELOCs and such, but this is starting to seem like a great time to borrow and invest in some real estate before the flurry starts

I moved from stocks to 100% fixed a week ago last Friday. I didn't get out at the peak.. I tumbled about 7% before I got out but that's OK if i can ride it back up.

Now, when to buy back in?

unemployment, trade deals, lower taxes, consumer spending, cheap energy, and trump reelection seem like good reasons

I remember Barry saying it was the "new normal" to be unable to fill a double tank vehicle because your debit card couldn't go over $100 at the pump.

If I have learned anything in my lifetime it is that no matter who is President, whoever is in charge of the news, and whoever the experts are... most of what you hear is speculation and ********. I won't bog down in some social/political rant but I ask you to think about how many absolutes you have heard from those folks I mentioned only to find out they were wrong, especially when it comes to our natural world. The experts and predictors of the natural world cataclysms try to make our world sound small and predictable when in fact we learn if there is one thing about this world you can count on is that we really don't understand it at all and we are just a blip in the lifetime of the Earth itself.

Not getting into it with anyone, everyone is entitled to an opinion, but I think we're all well aware now that Trump knows what he's doing.
