Some Old Hiker X thoughts:
-Luke close to overtaking USA’s best 57kg
-In freestyle, he’s Marcus the Mechanic
-So glad Zain’s wife told him to scratch that itch
-Levi burning villages in his first year of legal drinking age
-Dake becoming NLWC’s Obi-Wan
-Snyder on a redemption tour

Nobody has made a run at Snyder either. It could be as simple as "make a run at" doesn't happen as frequently as we think, or at least not as publicly as we think, and Taylor was a unique case.

I doubt any AD is going to take a run at Snyder with his legal baggage. If he was a prospective football or a basketball coach, maybe, but not for wrestling.

What I didn’t understand was all the people picking Lovett and Chance.

I thought Zain and Levi would comfortably win - and they did.

Dake and Marcus were (very) nice surprises.

Snyder was a lock

I mean, Levi won a world silver after having just turned 21 a month before. If Jax does that, Flo going to be like:

Snyder's arrest was 7 years after he graduated. If some school wanted to poach him, they had ample opportunity to try. That's more time than Iowa State needed to hire Cael as head coach.

If you prefer Burroughs as an example, he graduated 15 years ago.

Dake has said publicly that, after being an assistant coach at Cornell, he doesn't want to be a head coach.

Maybe his perspective has changed on that after a few years away from Cornell, but he hasn't said so publicly. Plus unlike Taylor, he does not run a wrestling club.

Nobody has made a run at Snyder either. It could be as simple as "make a run at" doesn't happen as frequently as we think, or at least not as publicly as we think, and Taylor was a unique case.
Both families love Happy Valley and the wives have great careers. Rising family with youngsters. Great place to live and especially if you are a world class wrestler. Not too many openings anymore at competitor or coaching level accept for entering HS wrestlers. Unbelievable pipeline through all levels. Such a incredible list of wrestlers over the last 15 yrs.

Iowa is 99% going to hire Spencer in 2029. I don't care what he says about whether he wants to coach or not, he'll come around when the job is open.

Yeah, we need Spencer in that job. He and his annoying vibe can keep that program in mediocrity for another 5-10 years.
He might be able to get them back to beating Iowa St, Minnesota, Ohio St. Be cool to see a 4th place NCAA Team Trophy get tossed in the trash. You know Ryan would dig it out, unless he somehow managed to lock himself in the team bus again. Then Goodale could grab it.
Dad could handle pressers and poaching. Definitely buy some of those glasses you can ball up and they kinda ooze back into close to shape again for when your Mom forgets she’s at a sporting event and not witnessing an Orphanage fire.

Gotta admit, I thought he needed 5 years as an assistant, but DT seems to be doing ok.

As Corby says, their funding from Bob may dry up. Unless they come up with other sources, it will be a harder go of it for SL. DT has a big money backer.

By the time 2029 rolls around, Nelson will have a couple of years as an assistant and be primed to appease Bob’s Brands Fandom.

Was curious, due to the haters that exist who say NLWC performs poorly on the international stage and is somehow bad for USA wrestling, about international NLWC results. I looked into the past 5 cycles/years starting with 2021 olympics & worlds (full slate that year due to 2020 covid crap) through 2025 worlds.

I believe the numbers are: 7 Gold, 7 Silver, 4 Bronze in the past 5 years for NLWC.

* Definitely could be off, but Snyder and Gilman count the whole time and Dake starts counting in 2023 because I think he came to the NLWC after 2022 worlds. I didn't include Taylors 2024 non Olympic world Bronze at 92kg because he had left for Ok State that spring.

Either way the NLWC ( and Cornell to a lesser extent up until recently) carry the majority of the output for USA wrestling internationally..shocker, I know.

Please correct if you notice an error.

Midwest Mafia still hoping to turn the clock back 60 years. They’re in shambles.

If the Final X results went the other way, can you imagine the Stilly Boy glazing on FRL and elsewhere. The 5-1 result has been seriously soft-pedaled. That was a paddlin’ by the NLWC. Would have been worse if Mitchell wrestled.

I would bet that Bob's money keeps flowing as long as the twins aren't fired. If their contracts are fulfilled, the exit is amicable, and SL is hired, seems like something he'd sign up for.

I don't fault the media for it. It happens to all great dynasties. At first they cover it and talk about the performance and potential incessantly, then the heap the praise and give the flowers and eventually they get tired and so do the non fans of whichever dynasty and they pivot to the next challenger. They eventually stop with the praise because the performance becomes expected. Penn State Wrestling entered it's evil empire age a few years back when they started breaking team scoring titles annually. Anyone that can bring about the fall of the empire, realistic or not, will get overly covered and the continual incredible achievements won't be spoken of the same. Heavy is the head that wears the crown or some crap like that.
