Also average roster size will inevitably shrink (maybe 10 to 12) for P4 schools, leading to fewer scholarships and teams will load up their rosters with upper class athletes (especially seniors), similar to what Indiana did in football. I believe typical roster charts (for P4 schools) will have 1-2 freshman, 2-3 sophomores, 3-5 juniors and 5+ seniors.
You cannot go with rosters of 10 in college. There in no ability to add players in season Not uncommon to a have 1-2 season ending injuries and games where players are not cleared to play due to injury. Twelve vs 14-15 is fine. The final 30% of the season rotations settle in to 7-9. Real difficult to do that all year.

I like Jan . I know what her record is after 2 seasons and it's good.
However, I hope our AD doesn't give her a long extension yet because we need to see if Jan can fill her roster with quality players through the portal and recruiting annually. Jan needs to prove her and her staff can get quality consistently to sign to play at Iowa.
She has missed on a lot of recruits and transfers and it is concerning.

We want to compete with UCLA, USC, Michigan and Maryland annually for titles and not lose the past momentum.

Just my opinion and concern.
Considering we kicked Michigan and Maryland's *** this year I'd say we're competing pretty well.

I hope JJ and LaSondra have looked at Jaleesa Molina from Temple. She is a 6"3" forward, from the Netherlands, averaging 9.9ppg and 7.8 rpg last year for Temple. Now obviously Temple does not play the competition Iowa does but she is big and can shoot and rebound. She shoots 49% from the field and 30% from the 3 line--> so plenty of time to grow there.
Coach Barrett apparently have looked at Jessica Peterson (follows her on Instagram and she follows him). 10 PPG 12 RPG 2024/25 - SMU

follows her too: Kaelyn Carroll ( 5 stars and #18 in the 2025 class).

Good targets.

I do agree that 10 player rosters are woefully insufficient for college. (An average of 12 is reasonable.)

As you claim, injuries throughout the season are inevitable. I do not dispute that one season ending injury is not uncommon, but two would certainly be less common and more than two are certainly possible in theory. Also, there are likely other (non season-ending) injuries that negatively impact a team’s season.

However, there is no number of players on a roster that can insure team success if the injuries are to the most important players. There is absolutely bound to be some negative impacts from such injuries. So the issue is not whether a team can sustain or salvage a season if they lose players to injuries, the issue becomes can they even field a team. The answer to that is most likely yes even if half the team is lost to injury. And yes teams can add players to the roster mid season if necessary. Iowa has even done so in the past.

Finally, and more to my main point, is that I believe [P4] rosters will shrink and fewer players will have an opportunity to be student athletes. Also more to my point, P4 schools will recruit fewer players straight from high school and will poach more players from non P4 schools resulting in fewer upperclassmen for them, again in my opinion.

Kicked Maryland's azz????

Iowa blew a 16 point lead in under three minutes to go to OT.
Always love a good joke on a weekend.

Or...are you trolling again?

27-7 and beat:
Baylor, Miami, Nebbie twice, Oregon, MSU, Maryland, Washington, Michigan twice, Illinois twice, a 2 seed in the B1G and finished second and a 2 seed in the tournament, and lost in the second round to Virginia. They had a great season in my opinion and apparently many others as well. If Chit Chat's last second shot would have gone in at the end of regulation, then you would have hung your negative opinion on the next loss. And so it goes!

Got to give you credit...I keep knocking you down and you keep getting up.

Notice you didn't reference the coaching meltdown at the end if regulation vs Maryland!😂😂😂😂😂😂

I've read your negative crap on here for several weeks and you've yet to knock me down or anyone else. Wow, Iowa beat Maryland and you think you won something, only in your negative head.

Why are you continually misrepresenting my comments and selectively being obtuse?

Iowa beat Maryland in OT after blowing a HUGE lead.
Just another in a laundry list of WTF moments by JJ with substitution patterns and weird timeout usages.
Facts that you conveniently avoid.

BAM...another beat down!
Get up off the canvas again, clown.

This board is such a bundle of valuable information. The WWE of message boards. Like Iowa's version of Grumpy Old Men.
