Looking at the Team Rankings, we currently sit at 14th. 11 of the teams ahead of us have at least 1 5*, which appears what separates us from the Top 10.

We're currently recruiting at a level that has kept us competitive in the past. In the recent past we've had the talent to win B1G Titles and make playoff runs. We've been held back not by our talent but by what was done with the talent. We won't know about that for awhile but the first indication that we're going to be all right is that our recruiting has been up to par. WE ARE!

The fact that MC claims that scheme follows talent pleases me.

Based on the 2027 class CMC is putting together and the 2026 roster, I continue to believe that Campbell is building a tough Iowa-type program but with better athletes.

Which is what Franklin should have done at PSU but instead he thought we could go head to head with OSU and recruit the same type of players as OSU, even though we didn't have the recruiting clout or financial backing to do so.

This is a model that can win at PSU.

So excellence at the highest level is achieved by recruiting as we have in the past? Interesting.

Just a thought. Let's assume the PSU staff is genuinely among the best. They take high 3 stars and low 4 stars and develop them successfully. Is that a formula for improved results over time? PSU isn't competing in isolation. If OSU and Oregon are recruiting 4 and 5 stars.....are we saying their coaching staff can't compare to Campbells? Which team has the higher ceiling?
Consistent top 10 finishes will require an uptick in recruiting (especially big play makers) and the coaching excellence that nearly everyone here is assuming.

Those are great questions, and until we get through a couple recruiting cycles it will be difficult to answer them. I am not saying that I believe one way or another that an Iowa type of program with better athletes than Iowa typically has can win it all. That’s just the style of program I see unfolding right now. Quite frankly, that is the type of program I would try to build myself if I were Campbell knowing that I’m not as rich as some of my competitors and need an equalizer on the field. James didn’t recruit at the same level as OSU or Oregon (in fact, he was recruiting at a similar level as Campbell is now,) but he certainly had opportunities to beat both OR and OSU and squandered them. I guess we shall see. I hope that Campbell and Kraft work really well together, because ultimately it’s going to be Kraft who needs to better organize donor money. Much of that money is currently paying for the stadium renovation.

Very excited to add a true bell cow to the roster going forward. Should (hopefully) help with securing a QB this week or next.

Sounds like Waters saw Bourque throw yesterday and we may have re-entered ourselves into the race. I've seen it mentioned that Waters met with Bourque's dad and has been in contact with the family's agent. Also interesting - Will Wood is visiting BC today, as his final visit in his process. Whoever commits first? Losing on both would be absolutely brutal at this point. We should know by the end of the week, if I were a betting man.

There’s options. The next QB may be on the roster. The portal is available too.

I'm hoping and I expect to watch a more disciplined football team on the field. One that doesn't miss assignments and doesn't commit damaging personal fouls.

Wiltfong literally just RPM'ed Will Woods to PSU. LFG boys!
There’s a crystal ball out as well for Wood from 247. It seems like it is happening if both services are all-in. The “insiders” (I know, haha) feel he is the better candidate for PSU. I just want one of the two.

This is good news. Could someone explain what PSU is looking for in a QB, why they are looking for those things, and why Wood or Bourque better fits what PSU is looking for? Also, what is the practical difference between an 88, 89 and 90 score on Rivals for a QB? I'm asking because I'm noticing a trend that a number of the current recruits are just under 4 star, and a number of Franklin's recruits were just over 4 stars. Is there a practical difference in those numbers?

Great! It looks like Wood will be committing soon. I don't think Bourque is coming to PSU. Have any of the experts predicted the Bourque announcement?

Great news! Thrilled to have Gibson.

A bit on the tall side at 6'-2" for a RB (although Eddie George was 6'-3"). I can't recall PSU having a back this tall. Any?

How did Michigan beat Ohio State in multiple years (2021-2024) with lesser recruiting classes and win three Big 10 championships (2021-2023) and a National Championship? How did Missouri beat Ohio State in 2023? How did Purdue beat them in 2018? How did Iowa beat them in 2017? How did Michigan State beat them in 2013 and 2015? How did Va Tech beat them in 2014? How did Washington beat Oregon in 2023 (twice) and 2022? How did Utah beat Oregon in 2021 (twice)? Nobody is thinking about beating them the majority of the time, just hoping for beating them more than once in 12 years.

LJ was 6’-1” and I think Franco Harris was 6’-2”. That might be it for taller RBs who were productive.

Just remember that when Franklin objected, Kraft insisted that the stadium renovation $$$ would not impede NIL progress.
They both have a year's grace with the 2026 schedule. After that, if you can't attract game changers at QB, WR, RB and Edge, you will be finishing 3,4,5, in conference.
How did Indiana win the NC?
Is that your plan? We'll keep recruiting like we have for 10 years and wait to be Indiana? LOL
Is Georgia, ND, Ohio State, Oregon, USC, Michigan, Texas, A&M all scaling back on recruiting and waiting for lightning to strike? Ohio State had every single starting defensive player of 2024 drafted this spring by the 5th round.
I remember Joe Namath making a "guaranteed win" and coming through against a Colt team that likely would have beaten the Jets 90 out of 100 times. How's that Jet dynasty doing?
I wonder how many delusional fan bases are waiting and hoping to be the next "Indiana?"

Iowa State lost to Northern Iowa the first year MC took over the program after a 3-9 season the year before.
With the following recruiting class ranks from 2016 -2025 (51, 48, 60, 50, 47, 52, 40, 44, 57, 58), Iowa State beat:
Number 3 Oklahoma in 2017
Number 4 TCU in 2018
Then Number 6 WVU in 2018
Number 8 Oklahoma State in 2021
Number 13 Miami in 2024
Texas in 2021
Number 17 Texas in 2020
Number 25 Oregon in 2020
Number 18 Oklahoma in 2020
Number 19 Texas in 2019

He's more than proven he can beat higher ranked teams with those recruiting classes.

You predictably never answered the question. You don't need top 5 HS recruiting to win NCs in the portal era. You can win with classes in the 10-12 range. We are not "scaling back on recruiting". You have no idea what you are talking about but just want to feed your petty, bitter narrative that your underperforming HC got unfairly sh## canned and now you are butt hurt as you pray Campbell fails.

Am I missing something, because it seems as if Campbell, who only has been on the job since early December and took over a program that was in a bit of disarray, is doing a very credible job with recruting so far? Yet, you would think that PSU now is a MAC-level program based on the comments of some.
