This is an excellent pickup. I think any questions about MC’s recruiting abilities have been answered over the last few weeks. For anyone counting, PSU 6 recruits vs VT 2.
VT is not the recruiting competition. OSU, Michigan, USC, and Oregon are the recruiting competition. OSU already has 3 of the top 20 overall ranked recruits in the nation on board. There’s still a lot of work to do for PSU.

Marshall, I think these are fair and reasonable points as opposed to the “coach can do no wrong” approach you took with Franklin.
Never believed a coach can do no wrong. It's more like coaches make decisions and the clientele here critique them after the game. However, in the post you commented on.....I see no reference to coaching. I'm stating my concern about roster and saying that the schedule is universally viewed as soft.
I'll likely be supporting HCMC shortly, as the reality of actual competition will begin and the myth of his invincibility will be shattered.....leading to fanboy outrage here. He's a very good coach but there exists no factual basis to assume he's better the HCJF.

I do see the passing game stretching the field. If you ask Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel, who were drafted in rounds 2 and 3 by the Texans this past year, both have said Taylor Mouser likes to take his shots down the field. When healthy, Rocco has proven he can do that. Also, Franklin was too worried about turning the ball over, and I think we can all agree Andy Kotelnicki didn’t know what he was doing. Eck and Sowell are good WRs, and Koby Howard is going to be a stud. I think all three can stretch the field. Rap and Benjamin Brahmer are going to be nightmares for defenses as far as tight ends go. The schedule is super soft, which is why my expectations are high. I mean, if they are going against Ohio State, Oregon, and Indiana, I wouldn’t expect them to go 11-1. I’m not saying they’re going to win the national championship, but with the way the roster is, I say we can compete with most high-end teams.
The receivers we have are not Higgins and Noel.

Incredibly exciting,,,,PSU has never attracted a 4 star linebacker under BGJ. He is a composite 3 star and also 3 on 247.

I was thinking the same thing. If we're gonna compare ourselves to VT, we're in trouble.
While I don't disagree, I think it has more to do with the fact that the coach at VT is negative recruiting Penn State very hard to high school kids, their parents, and their coaches. For a while it seemed as though it was successful, but with the recent run of commits with offers to both schools it's not.

Coaches negative recruit all the time. Coaches did it for years against Joe because of his age. This isn’t new. People really need to move on.

Not sure if you are a PSU fan or not. You sound like a bitter BGJ supporter. I think there is a BOGO on Va Tech season tickets now so be sure to check that out.

Yes they are big games if they are ranked opponents. BGJ gets credit for squeezing out the USC win in '24 and I guess if it makes you happy winning the Bowl game vs Washington in 2017. Beating SMU and Boise in the playoffs can count but we sure got an easy draw but I will give it to him.

If you read my message again I clearly say that winning one of four is not good enough and if that is the best Campbell can do then he should be fired after a few years of that underperformance.

One last point on BGJ, you can pullout every win that could be considered Big- OSU 2016, Wisky 2016, Mich 2017, 2019, USC 2024, Washington 2017 Fiesta, Utah, 2023 Rose, SMU and Boise in 2024 playoffs- he was still lousy in big games. His record was atrocious versus top 10 and top 5. Campbell will be held to the same standard. Those bowl wins are iffy because the bowls were largely irrelevant outside the playoff games.
This place is crawling with bitter, angry Penn State “fans”. I guarantee most of them will be hoping for Campbell to fail.

100% Agree.. most of these “fans” can’t even hide it. It’s like rooting against the USA, if your party isn’t running it.
It is a very strange place here. It’s a mix of doom and gloom for some and unrealistic expectations for others. Per AI since 1995 we are a respectable, but not quite elite 9-4 on avg per year. OSU is an elite 11-2 and Iowa is a solid 8-5 on average We are closer to Iowa than OSU recently. Running the same ai exercise in the 1970s and 1980s we were an elite 10-2 on avg. If Campbell can get us tougher in the trenches like an Iowa type of program and still recruit some of the elite athletes Franklin pulled in, I think we have a chance to get back to elite. We do not recruit like OSU and lack the resources to do so (money talks these days), but if Campbell can replicate the recruiting and development techniques he perfected at ISU we have a chance.

The Indiana Hoosiers don’t recruit like OSU and certainly don’t have the resources of OSU. Yet, Indiana defeated the Buckeyes and won the National Championship.

It‘s time to drop the standard excuses of losing to OSU. This is a new era with coach Campbell and you will never hear him or his staff use such lame excuses.

I think some fans are too jaded by Franklin’s past failures in big games.

Better results are on the horizon for our Nittany Lions. Penn State is no where near being Iowa.

Expectations need to be raised not lowered. That’s what Kraft has said and it is a huge reason why he upgraded the head coach position.
