That's true, but they also use eight regions, which then translate easily into a playoff bracket (GA and TN do it similarly), instead of needing some advanced math to figure out the playoff brackets. However, the problem with doing it that way is inflexibility--you end up having to stick people away from their rivals or in leagues with huge travel times. For instance, in 4A, if you did it that way you'd probably have Greenville schools in a league with Raleigh schools and Asheville schools in a league with schools up around Boone/Lenoir. It wouldn't be the end of the world, but the rivalries and gates would definitely be less and kids would spend a lot more time on the bus.
