2019 Potential Reclassify per Kyle Tucker

I don’t buy that Tucker is just now finding out about this, as it wasn’t hard to connect the dots after Tucker said possibly two more additions, one in HS and on a transfer; then Matt Jones said the one in HS was a guard; and Tucker really made repeated mentions of his story about Maxey last week.

I think Cal wants a loaded 2015 type team, and then that type of talent and depth could lead to more than usual returning the next year, and repeat cycle.

This is exactly what I thought as well. Instead of finding multiple year recruits, he’s basically recruiting elite ‘one and done’ type players and knowing they need to come back. It’s kinda genius. He’s not waiting for the NBA to change it to 2 years, he’s doing it himself. My lordy

Yes, just not academically. He was an exceptionally gifted athlete. Try not to be so deliberately dense.

Actually Bagley is excellent academically, the rush job to get him reclassified notwithstanding.

He was a student, exceptional at basketball. It's not about academics. It never has been. Not all jobs require a college degree believe it or not.

Now that's funny. This board went NUTS saying Duke was the only school in the country he could have gotten eligible for so fast.

Give me a break, tough guy. Many across the country agree with me. These kids are cutting High School short and barely even going to college. It wouldn't hurt us at all if it was stopped across the board.

I would be against it too, because they miss out on their Senior Year and HS All Star games.... BUT... when a lot of these kids are held back a grade intentionally for athletic purposes it doesn't really make much of a difference. Like Hagans is older than Kevin Knox. And Marvin Bagley is older than Kevin Durant..... so ***shrugs***.

Dont see the need for him. I hope this doesn’t mean green is gone. I’d rather have Green.

Not me. Wasn’t impressed with Green. He doesn’t have one thing he does well. Not a great shooter, passer, defender, and had a tendency to take the ball amongst the trees. Which he is undersized for.

I'm dense because this board went CRAZY that Bagley couldn't have gotten eligible anywhere but Duke? Show me where you defended him amongst all those posts.

Fair enough.

I think he is actually a very good shooter. His percentage dropped at the end of the season, but he had an injury that kept him out of I think 4 games, and he lost his job to Shai. That's a lot to deal with. Cal's comments before the SEC Tourney also put a lot of pressure on him. But there were good stretches this season where he was our most reliable shooter.

Honest question: Why do a lot of people on this board seem to be dying for another team of mostly freshmen?

Just curious. Not trying to be a prick. I just don’t understand it.

Give me a team of a 3-5 freshmen and some returning sophomores and juniors all day. I hope we lose nobody else and roll with the Fr we already have.

I agree.

That said, these players are better than the guy we are relying on to return (in Green). We do need some experience back though somewhere so hoping WG and Vandy and PJ are back.

You can never have too much talent. I think most fans would like a steady dose of top talent freshman, a few upperclassman, and a homegrown kid or 2. But at the end of the day ill take any player thats good enough to contribute

Pg- Hagans / Quickley
Sg- Maxey / Baker
Sf- Johnson / Herro
Pf- Gabriel / Vando
C - Montgomery / Richards

I think 1 of Gabriel or PJ will end up leaving to make money.... and I think it would be PJ so thats why I have Gabriel starting at the 4.

I think that lineup might just be platoon worthy

Probably spot on, but I'm hoping we're both wrong on PJ.

So reclassifying is on the up and up if we do it but not if our rivals do it. Got it.

It's about how it's done. Assuming they finish the required classes, why not. The issue with Bagley was the schools he attended - others that attended had eligibiiity issues, yet he was cleared at Duke in record time.

Gossir is a hypocrite so his opinion doesn’t count.

Again, no. Just because you don't understand the point he was making doesn't make him a hypocrite.

He said kids all across America leave high school early to pursue their talent.

Geniuses don't waste their time going all four years. A kid like Marvin Bagley, whose genius is basketball, left early to pursue it. He plainly said it isn't about academics.

Give me a break, tough guy. Many across the country agree with me. These kids are cutting High School short and barely even going to college. It wouldn't hurt us at all if it was stopped across the board.

Senior year was nearly a complete waste of time other than the college classes I took which I could have taken just as well without going to my high school before and between them.

I needed one credit, a credit that easily could have been earned instead of aiding in the office and for teachers.

It's not that crazy, my class had 2-3 juniors that took care of business and walked with us and we still didn't have 60 people in the class.

It's not that crazy. It's probably not for everyone of course but if the student has taken care of business and is ready for that next step then why would anyone want to stand in the way of the individuals progress and put them essentially through a year of going through the motions?

I can't even imagine how far I would have fallen apart without those couple of college classes to give me something to do that was worth my time. Most of my friends had graduated, it just was done I didn't need year four at all. I think it was a mistake.

I think one size fits all solutions are stupid and lazy. What was best for you may not be right for some. Kids mature at different rates, have varied capacity, and even vary in age. Why shouldn't a to be 19 year old freshman "graduate early" if they have mastered the required material? It seems they have fully caught up.

Same goes for the 18 year old entering freshman year because you know their are going to be 17 year olds doing the same things.

It's mostly just driven by a date on the calender.

What makes you think that the kid born on September 20th is a year ahead of the kid born a couple weeks before Halloween?

What are you going to do with the really smart kids? You know the few super advanced types that have chewed through what primary schooling can offer at like 13? Bore them to oblivion for another half a decade?

Different means different not scary and baaaaaad.

The proof that you can never have too many guards:

Tony Delk
Allen Edwards
Wayne Turner
Jeff Sheppard
Cameron Mills
Derek Anderson
Anthony Epps

I loved being able to dig down to the 13th man and come up with Edwards.

Even on a bad night you still had to be a Final Four team to beat us.

How does anyone know that? A guy with a year of experience 5* player vs another 5* freshman. We simply don’t know what a freshman will bring until maybe halfway through the season. No one can make a definitive statement an incoming player is better than an existing one until we’ve seen them play at this level.
