After next season half of the Union county conference will be 4A. That county must be exploding
Cuthbertson and Marvin Ridge are bigger than Weddington. Union County has been growing like this for a while now. When I played in the 80’s, there were only 5 high schools in this county. It’s crazy

No doubt, they are 1600+ and growing. I live down in that area and they are building like crazy, that school will be overflowing in the next 10 years.
There is not that much building in the Weddington district but there is in Cuthbertson and Marvin Ridge they are both over 1900. Weddington got kids back from the social engineering redistricting they did to send kids to SV and Monroe

Weddington could 100% win 4A right now if they were eligible to play in the 4a this year. Matter of fact, I would put them as my favorites to do so.

4AA

So what are the thresholds that say x amount of students = y classification? I guess that is where I get confused based on some posts above
So they take the top 32 teams in 4A overall and take largest 16 of those to 4AA, the smaller 16 go to 4A. Is that what you are asking?
Also HSOT has some interesting projections. No Montgomery Central in playoffs, has Western Alamance in the west as well. Also has ACR as smallest 3AA school

Something to ponder about the HSOT 3A projections: Would KM and Crest flip flop if KM beats Crest?

As far as Montgomery Central goes, I agree with the projection. They’re getting blown out by small 2A schools.

That makes sense. But it would be top 64 right? In order to make 3A West 16, 3A East 16, 3AA West 16 and 3AA East 16

We did playoffs in NY a lot differently so I am still learning

Yes it is I was just stating for one side of bracket. It is top 64, then they take largest 32 and put them in AA then they do east/west and seed.

I see positives and negatives to this process but i imagine it works overall.

In NY, the state was broken up by sections.

After a 7 game regular season, the top 8 teams in each class went to the sectional playoffs (1v8, 2v7, 3v 6, 4v5,) and had a quarter/semi/final tourney to win your class. We had class AA, A, B, C & D. I was in Section V, class A.

Once we won the Section V Class A championship, we played the Section VI Class A champion. Then once we beat the Section VI champ, we played the winner of Section III vs Section IV. Then we played the state championship game against whoever was left, usually a team from Section IX or I. Our full season was only 13 games but there was no choosing/selecting teams along the process. You had to be in the top 8 of your class in your section, then win your section, then beat the other section champs to be a state champ

I know HSOT is basing their projections strictly on what's happened so far and not what will happen this week, but I have to believe Grey's Creek will make it and be large 3AA.

There is a reason that they play the games. They are HIGH on themselves right about now, but it doesn't take much to lose focus when you are on top.

If Weddington loses, I guarantee it won’t be because of losing focus. It will be because the other team outplayed them.

Weddington has beat everyone in a great conference by 50. There is not a team under 4AA that beat the green meanies

Whom might you suggest beat the Green Machine? They won’t beat themselves.

There is ALWAYS a team out there that is under valued and maybe not even ready to beat the top dog RIGHT NOW, but one game at the end of the season..........

Who do you that that ONE team could be? You have a lot of teams to chose from. Surely you have an idea as to whom it might be?

I'm not a Weddington fanboy by any means but go ahead and put their names on the rings right now. those are the hardest working kids in the business they block and tackle well and there as well coached anybody in the state.

I'll let it play out, but I'm not giving any team the trophy before the game is played. I've see too many cases in sports where the champ was crowned before the event happened and guess what............

You are correct on all points, but who's to say that there aren't other teams outside of the Charlotte area that have what it takes to take them down? If I were going to pick a team it wouldn't be one of the teams at the top of the rankings. It will take a hungry team with a chip on their shoulder.

Yeah dude the only thing is the best football is played in Charlotte in the south end of North Carolina. The amazing thing to me is that these state championship coaches stay in North Carolina. I would definitely be rowing my boat towards Georgia or South Carolina.
