Im not sure that I see UVA offering him even though they have came once or twice to Gate City to see him play....but I think Va Tech and possibly UT will. not sure what all other high major schools will get in the mix but now that the Scarlet Nights have offered I think it will open the door for lots of other P5 offers....and being the first P5 to offer is bound to resonate with him in the last days of his recruiting process. Good Luck to you guys in landing McClung. If in fact he does choose RU....i will become a Rutgers fan on the spot and root you guys on all the way when basketball season rolls around.
I saw Bobby from h.s. thru Sacramento. I can remember a lot of plays, but none of them involved his jumping. I don't see much similarity other than they are both white.Read my post again Irish. I said the STYLE of play was similar, not the skill. Nothing silly about comparing styles of play.
Exactly. His game is more Corey Sanders than Bobby Hurley.I saw Bobby from h.s. thru Sacramento. I can remember a lot of plays, but none of them involved his jumping. I don't see much similarity other than they are both white.
Just like every white slot WR is Wes welker. Mac plays above the rim. Don't recall any reverse alley oops to Hurley. I think maybe he was getting at the tenacity they both play with thoughI saw Bobby from h.s. thru Sacramento. I can remember a lot of plays, but none of them involved his jumping. He's already been on an unofficial to Tennessee, maybe close to 6-8 months ago.....cant really remember. Think he's been to VT several times as well during some camps and things of that sort. Playing for Team Loaded VA has landed him all kinds of attention. He played really well in some of their most recent tournament's. If he has a couple more standout games with them over the summer....hes going to blow up on the recruiting trail.
So do you think his interest in Rutgers is genuine or is it more about it being a P5 offer and when other P5 offers come he'll lose interest?
I'm biased of course, but I think Rutgers offers many things that other P5 schools don't offer from an academic perspective (especially SEC schools). Also think Pikiell is the real deal.
Me neither. If Patrick Ewing steals Mac that would be annoying as a die hard Knicks fan
I would not be able to guess this visit in a Million Years.
Yeah, but if you're being honest about it, the knicks were never going to win with Ewing as their center. For who he was, and his abilities, he played so soft sometimes. So frustrating.Me neither. If Patrick Ewing steals Mac that would be annoying as a die hard Knicks fan
Completely disagree. Ewing never had the talent around him. Especially considering he needed to get through the GOAT MJ. As much as I liked starks he was no pippen. Ewing never had that level of player to be Robin to his Batman like pretty much every single NBA champ. Now you need at least 3. Ewing never even had 2Yeah, but if you're being honest about it, the knicks were never going to win with Ewing as their center. For who he was, and his abilities, he played so soft sometimes. I loved Oak and Mace, but yeah its not like that team was out scoring anyone. Literally had nobody until Allan Houston that could score consistently other than Patrick. Aside from Allan who were our dead eye shooters? Starks? Hubert Davis? Trent Tucker? Give Patrick Clyde and Barkley and I bet he has more rings than Hakeem, give him Tim Duncan and he has as many as the Admiral, give him Kobe/Wade and he has as many as Shaq...guy did all he could for the Knicks for so long.Completely disagree. Spreewell was no slouch.
I'm not closely following the kid's recruitment but I doubt a decision is imminent.Any new info on macs interest/decision?
Ah. Well that blows.I'm not closely following the kid's recruitment but I doubt a decision is imminent.Any new info on macs interest/decision?
Next month there are three consecutive weeks of evaluation periods where coaches can go watch AAU tournaments and further evaluate players.
McClung has schools who are interested but haven't offered those schools are going to be watching him in July and making the decision as to whether or not to offer him.
It would be crazy dumb for him to make his school choice now. He'll either come out of July with more offers or the same offers he currently has. No need for him to speed things up

You do realize that in July the staff could very well see someone they like more than McClung and offer him.Ah. Well that blows.
I could be wrong, but based on your take on him as a player, I think you'll be surprised at some of the offers he will receive. Again, could be wrong, and if so I'd be happy for him to come back to Rutgers and commit as I think he can play regardless of offer list. I read this article and for me it confirmed the good vibes, just think he is a guy that will continue to get better, especially when you look at his athleticism at his age without any college S&C: http://www.heraldcourier.com/sports...cle_bcb5e3ee-1cce-11e7-b6bf-c7dba4208a78.htmlYou do realize that in July the staff could very well see someone they like more than McClung and offer him.
I am really surprised that so many here are treating McClung like he is a "must have" prospect.

Right, Hawk. And it depends what Russ means by "must-get". Does that mean potential lottery pick? Then no of course not. But he feels like a must get for all the potential qualities and reasons Hawk listed.I don't think we are treating him as must-have, but we are treating recruits that have given a genuine interest in RU, more of a benefit of the doubt. Add to it, Mac has an "it" factor that frankly hasn't been necessarily seen at RU in a while....
RU assuredly will take July to add offers to the list, because certain kids that have had offers may go elsewhere.
I think there is an impression that if McClung has a good July, it would likely increase his stock with other schools, making it more of a battle to land the player. If he levels off this July or summer, it could be for a number of reasons.
I'm a fan of McClung in the limited research done on him, he competes and I know that's an assumption of all kids, but it's really not. Certain recruits get by on talent, but there are others that compete and are additional culture-changers....not because they are the most talented players, but they work each and every day and do so, within a team environment.
I'll repeat what happened last year at this time.....Geo Baker also didn't have the offers last spring and was improving enough to secure an RU offer and verballed....he finished 13th in the New England rankings, ahead of other kids going to North Carolina etc.....he outplayed others ranked higher than him last summer.
I am leaning on the staff and if they have offered, it's because he's an added piece to the culture change needed at RU.
@NewJerseyHawk "Must have" may have been a bit strong but some, not all, might wanna drink some decaf lol
Btw, what "it" factor does McClung have? If the "it" factor is that he's a good kid who'll be a four year player, graduate on time, help the APR, become a fan favorite because he's a small white guard who can jump out of the gym; well that's a fairly low bar

This kid looks to have some of that personality and grit that will attract the students just like Getty's did. We had a huge success with the white guy that could't jump, just imagine what one who can will bring.@NewJerseyHawk If the "it" factor is that he's a good kid who'll be a four year player, graduate on time, help the APR, become a fan favorite because he's a small white guard who can jump out of the gym; well that's a fairly low bar
A bit off topic, but I have to say that I am really enjoying the conversations that are occurring now on the basketball front. We have about five folks who know what they are talking about and making great contributions! I won't name them as there are probably 20 guys who think they are in those five! But, super discussions and info, guys!
