Why not run the same damn play that got you the easiest TD imaginable? Why not run Gronowski right with the option to pass into the end zone, keep it, or flip it to a trailing RB? Drop back passes for 2-point conversions? What the hell, Lester? That's the easiest play to defend and the worst part of Gronowski's game. Iowa and 2-point conversions are like Superman and kryptonite. And that's bullshitt.

I thought they spread them just like the TD. Run the ball and see what happens. We all can live with 2 inches short vs. that abomination.

I'll never understand why we don't run in those situations. It's why we have such a high efficiency in the red zone. Just don't like the call. Not in this weather against a defense like this.

Yep they should run that play

During the game we had quite a conversation about the thrown towel and how that action had to deserve a flag....

It didn't impact the play, but no one should be able to throw anything other than the football. No equipment should ever be thrown.

Not sure you can say it didn't impact the play,.. How does a white towel in the receiver's field of vision affect his ability to complete a catch?,.. I can guarantee that it doesn't help.

On further investigation, it appears it is only a penalty if the official deems it to be.

There is no rule prohibiting throwing a towel at the football. It would come under the general umbrella of “an obvious unfair act not covered by the rules”. UCLA tried the same thing against Hawaii in 2017 with no penalty called.

As far as I’m concerned, whenever an opponent lines up to kick an extra point or field goal, Iowa players should all throw towels at the ball. But of course, the Hawks will get penalized while everyone else gets away with it.

Heck take a shoe off and throw it.

It sure looked like on replay that the LEFT heel grazed the endzone before going out.

What's silly is Moulton inexplicable leaving his feet. Keep them down and it's easy.

Yes, but IIRC the left foot then went out of bounds -I don't think a heel counts unless none of the rest of the foot goes out of bounds.

Moulton is not a WR -I doubt he has ever practiced a "keep the toes inbound" catch at the back of the end zone. Plus, I think it was tipped so unexpected.

I agree it is frustrating but it goes back to the theme of this thread -we are not good at 2 point conversions but somehow we aren't bad at play calling from the 3 when its not a 2 point play!

Of all the dumb plays Saturday, the 2-point conversion play was the dumbest. Should have had Grono just run for it.

The heel is a part of the foot. If it touches, it seems like it counts. Imagine a player falling backwards in the air out of bounds. If he bounces that heel in fair territory before the rest of his body hits out of bounds, I believe that would be considered a catch.

This game and Penn State... WTF???
I think our best type of 2 pt conversion would be Grono in shotgun, with a RB beside him, and have a player like Wetjen or Phillips in motion. At the snap Grono hands off but more likely keeps it on the QB run but that player in motion would be available for a triple option type pitch.

You would have the TEnds and WRs blocking, some on crackback type blocks to free up the QB run.

If the motion takes a Lbkr or safety to the side then Grono may hand it off if they have the number to block for the running back.

Our receivers usually cant get open in that tight of a space on a one and done 2 pt play so I would go with a triple option type run.

I said the same as you almost verbatim, run your regular offense and Grong can handoff to a running back if the defense isnt lined up with enough players, but more likely Grono runs and give him a man in motion that he can pitch or pass to.

That is incorrect according to the experts

Lestikow on HawkCentral appears to agree.

The replay looked inconclusive to me, with the possibility that Moulton got a “heel tap” with his left foot before his foot went out of bounds. If that call had stood, the end-of-game complexion would’ve changed, and Oregon’s winning field goal would have only been a tying field goal.

In baseball that’s three bases. I would think the football equivalent would be at least two points.

Jaz Patterson or Mark Gronowski are picking up three yards, I’d guess conservatively, 70% of the time.

Yet Iowa continues to throw for 2 point conversions.
