Clearly our biggest issue. Would be great if we can bring someone with experience coaching qbs and wrs
No you need hire best coach available. We have a QB coach what we don't have is a suitable game ready QB right now.Need to hire an ace QB coach...period...end of story with that 10th assistant.
Then our QB coach needs to (1) coach UP our existing QBs, and (2) go out there and recruit better ones. Yes, I know we have some kid from Cali we've never seen before and Sitkowski who is lighting up the bench at IMG. I sure hope they're better than Gio. Otherwise, our QB coach ain't getting it done.No you need hire best coach available. We have a QB coach what we don't have is a suitable game ready QB right now.
If you look at the stats pretty much the only teams in the country that trail us in passing are the triple option teams. They lead the country in rushing though we're somewhere in the 60s IIRC.We have no WRs. I've never seen anything like it. They get no targets. Let's just go full house backfield and run the option.
That's foolish as hell if you actually believe that. We aren't at the position to be hiring "the best coach available" yet.No you need hire best coach available. We have a QB coach what we don't have is a suitable game ready QB right now.
I know right. I mean we've already gone through 2 whole recruiting cycles with Ash. LolThen our QB coach needs to (1) coach UP our existing QBs, and (2) go out there and recruit better ones. I don't even know what that means. I'm not talking about poaching an OC from the SEC, I'm taking about Hiring the best coach we canThat's foolish as hell if you actually believe that. We aren't at the position to be hiring "the best coach available" yet.
Don't assume you can't poach coaches from other places that may be successful. On its face you say no and might be the case often but at the same time these guys want to move up the ladder too and sometimes want to come out of the shadow of their HCs/other co-OC and make a name for themselves.I don't even know what that means. Good chance that Toby Neinas (?), an experienced coach who is working in an operational capacity for
The past year on the staff will get the nod. Ash is very “comfortable” with him.
I'm not saying we can't but from his response he made it seem like I meant go and coach vrenables or somethingDon't assume you can't poach coaches from other places that may be successful. Rhett Lashlee went to UConn, Meacham to Kansas, Spavital at one time from A&M to Cal so who knows.
Bolin can make throws that Gio cannot.. Gio makes fewer foolish throws.. or rather, at times it seems his foolish choices are thrown so badly no one can catch them.. perhaps on purpose? But all we heard all off season was that Bolin threw for 300+ yards one game against Syracuse two years ago...and that our stud WR class would be able to make plays with a competent QB transfer...
That tells me it's all on the coaching that they can't use the pieces they have to have an even remotely successful passing attack...
So yes I agree we need better offensive coaches for the QB

Ideally I'd like someone like Klingsbury or a Dykes. It doesn't mean we have to throw it around like they do at TT or Cal but I think some middle ground between that and Kill would be nice. Would it create friction in philosophy/vision? That's a possibility that would have to be discussed before such a hire would be made.I'm not saying we can't but from his response he made it seem like I meant go and coach vrenables or something
I was at the game...looked like Gio threw it thinking Grant could catch up To it...grant is clearly a step or more slower...problem is I don't think Gio saw the safety and if he didn't over throw it more likely it gets interceptedBolin can make throws that Gio cannot.. I am thinking of that long pass over-throw where Grant gave up on the play because he was doubled.. Gio threw it 10 yards beyond where anyone could catch it.. was that because he saw double and threw anyway? Was that because we only had 1 WR out and he didn't feel like running or thought he'd get sacked? None of us watching TV has those answers.. maybe someone at the game could surmise some of the answers. The coaches know and Ash seemed unhappy about the situation in his post-game presser.
Lots of people blaming talent.. these are the people that want and demand the best of everything.. we need 4 and 5 stars all over the field and coaches who have won national championships and can recruit anyone. Sure.. go for the easy answer. Lets just have McCourty and Harmon bring down the Patriots on Saturday and dress them in Rutgers uniforms... for the time being that is just as likely and getting all those great recruits and coaches they demand.
We need to be better with what we have now and will have next year. There are answers..our coaches need to work harder to find them..and so do the QBs and receivers. Work harder.. do some work on their own time.. get those timing pattern and scramble plays better coordinated. It can be done.

Oh, Really.TV - based on your recent predictions this essentially means he will NOT be the 10th coach.
Not flaming but your predictions have been the exact opposite for a while now.
He's not going to publicly throw his QB coach under the bus on the fan radio show.As I posted on another thread, last week I called into the Chris ash show and asked him if he was thinking about adding a QB coach for the 10th coach. And his reply was, "I thought we already have a pretty good QB coach."
Don't know if he makes any changes/additions but I don't know how much you can extrapolate from public comments like that. He's not going to publicly throw his QB coach under the bus on the fan radio show.
The Ash regime has not brought in qb's to help, although too early to judge Lewis, and has not developed what has been here. Laviano regressed after a decent first season as a starter. Gio looked like he passed better last year, and he better start passing better this year because the secret is out that he is more dangerous with his legs. Getting an experienced qb coach that can identify prospects and improve their abilities would be great, but I don't think these types grow on trees.
What if that best available is a defensive coach? Do we really need another defensive coach if your head coach's specialty is defense, and that unit seems to be making strides already? Wouldn't it make sense to hire an offensive coach? Which is the unit that is clearly dragging down the rest of the team and hasn't progressed the way the other two phases of the game have? And more specifically the QB position which is hampering any progress made by the running game in that offense? Is that really logical to neglect an area of need for the sake of best available? You and Jerry Reese would get along great. That train of thought is working out splendidly for him.No you need hire best coach available. For the love of God. OP said you have to hire a QB coach. I was simply stating you hire the best coach. I'd assume Ash knows what side of the ball he wants help on and only interview people who coach there. You realize interviewing isn't like picking up some chick at last call. He's not just gonna approach whoever is left standing. What if that best available is a defensive coach? thanks.. its questions like that that prevent us armchair QBs from knowing whats going on. I kinda wish you told he was alone out there.. I can see that JG had injury issues.. not adjusting to a pass vs Michigan.. perhaps he did not trust his wheels... and then here not having a 2nd gear one the ball was in the air.. still.. I wish that were and intentional overthrow.I was at the game...looked like Gio threw it thinking Grant could catch up To it...grant is clearly a step or more slower...problem is I don't think Gio saw the safety and if he didn't over throw it more likely it gets intercepted
