Agreed I thought they at least experimented with changing that rule at some point. Maybe for the women?

Same. At minimum it should only reset to 5 if it is below 5 and they have to inbound the full length. If it’s a side out the. It stays at whatever the count was....

it isn’t that hard of a fix

You force the other team to use a timeout so you do get something out of it. In a way you could argue the 5 seconds inbound timeout reset as well

I think having to use a timeout is the punishment for it. If it didn't reset, then it becomes another "let's go to the monitor" item to get an accurate count on how much time is left.

WVU cost themselves huge letting 20+ seconds run off fooling around like that. I think Boheim knew what he was doing having the guys lackadaisically hold the ball then call to

Just call walking. There are at least 25 missed walking calls in every college. How is a "jump stop" not just a forward "crow hop". I watched Iowa's Garza moonwalk about 5 feet with no call. Players changing their pivot foot is as common as missed threes. It goes back a long way but when I played high school b'ball in Kentucky walking was called if you changed your pivot foot from heal to toe.

Many of the spectacular plays we see today would be negated if walking and carrying/palming the ball were enforced.

I mean you only get so many time outs, so it doesn’t penalize the D, you are forcing them to utilize a resource which are often very valuable at the end of the game. Used last TO to prevent a 10 second call? Well now you don’t have one if you can’t inbound in 5 seconds. Now you don’t have one to call TO after mid court to set up a final play etc...

Agree & should change the rule so that it requires a player to only call timeout with clear possession of the ball & at least one foot in bounds. No more bailout timeouts when Jumping out of bounds or rolling around on the floor.

I will never understand why the defense gets penalized and the offense gets a fresh ten seconds by calling a timeout in the backcourt

I agree. Makes no sense. Similar to the shot clock when the defense gets the rebound. Just let them run. When they are forced to stop and inbound it rewards the offense that couldn’t get a shot off.

Unless they changed the rule once the ref got to an 8 count while bringing the ball up or a 4 count while inbounding then you couldn’t call timeout.

I have said this for many years. It has ruined the purity of the game.

The eurostep has also gotten way out of hand. Fifteen years ago you wouldn't be able to get a layup while picking up your dribble before the free throw line.

They need to eurostep off my lawn is what they need to do.
