Irish a lot of this comes down to a national title. Cal needs a second ring and most people including myself watch to see if we have a title team or not. If Cal had won in ‘15 a lot of this wouldn’t be happening. Right or wrong I think that’s just how it is.

My biggest issue is Cals “coaching for March” style. We play some of the ugliest basketball half the time. It does get old especially when I don’t really believe he has to. But maybe he does it’s just my opinion.

If Cal has won in 2015 and went undefeated he should have just about been givin the longest leash of any coach here ever. Sucks we didn’t but that was still a great accomplishment. Everyone seen how we got robbed in 2011 and 2017 and the main game I have a problem with Cal was the 2014 NT game. Other than that he has done about as well as he could. Maybe we should have won the elite 8 game last year but that team was very inconsistent.

The whole "pumper" thing is so stupid.

Why?

Because you are considered a "pumper" if you think rationally. The majority of time a "pumper" is simply trying to talk a moron off a ledge. The moron isn't thinking rationally, "Cal does this and that wrong", "Will lose all games outside of Rupp", "Gonna lose 12 games before tourney", "Cals lost a step".

It is all just moronic and the rational person is called a "pumper". 4 Final Fours in 9 years...everyone should be a "pumper" for God's sake. How easily people forget the many years before the Cal era...

Yep.

I get called a pumper just because I don't freak out over losses in December or act like my life is over because UK loses a game.

If it gets bad enough, I'll *****. I called for Tubby's head after we scored 0 points in the first 10 minutes of a game at Bama. I called for Clyde's head after UGA senior day in 09. I remember (most of) the Final Four drought from 84 to 93 and again from 99 to 2011. My dad remembers the national title drought from 58-78 and 78-96. We have a lot of spoiled fans who don't understand our history. Anyone born after 1958 has never seen a UK coach win multiple championships, yet a lot of us expect that and then some.

I'm almost 40. This is a golden era, probably second in my lifetime to 92-98 and 10-15 is damn close. I'm grateful for what Cal has done and will be sad as hell when he leaves. I'm definitely not gonna run my mouth on the internet like I know better than he does.

One guy here is 68, posts negatively all the time and admitted he’s grumpy and (selfishly) wants a title every year. Thats some of the stupidity that other posters have to wade through.

Spot on. Many have a very distorted view of UK history...we have 5 titles in my moms lifetime and she is 65. 4 since 1960...and 3 of those are in the past 23 years. So from 1959 to 1995 we had 1 title. Pretty sure that is a good chunk of our history...

One other thought...

People need to realize that the best thing that happened to UK is Pitino and Calipari...without both of them we may be IU right now.

Pitino saved UK and returned them to the throne after probation. If not for the Cal hire, lord help us after those last few years of Tubby and the BCG...we were on the wrong track majorly.

I mean Mich St. lost 3 straight to unranked and to IU #55 on their own floor and then to Illinois 10-15 #80 and the so-called experts keep them in the top 10. Plus this great new NET has them at 7. We lost some tough games early in the year with a very young and completely new team. On the road to Bama #50 and SH on a neutral court, but actually in their backyard. and they have won 3 straight and are 16-9. Both are probably tourney teams. Sucks to lose them, but by a combined 3 points away from Rupp and both in the final seconds.

Tired of ugly regular seasons. I have gotten to the point where I really don't care to watch anymore because I already know how this is going to play out. We'll struggle most of the year, ugly, disorganized basketball, really struggle on the road, a couple of blowout losses, then come late February we'll start playing better and by mid-March we'll like like a good team but we'll have so many losses from the regular season that we'll be a 5 or 6 seed and get bounced in the second round or S16.
How does it feel to be an idiot?

Same. I'm a lifelong UK basketball, UK football, Bengals and Reds fan. I've seen a lot of really bad baseball and football but never jumped ship.

UK basketball is the highlight on my sports fandom and Cal has us at least relevant every season. 2013 was the outlier. Even in 2016 and 2018 we were a top 5 seed and won our conference tournament, meaning we were one of the best 20 teams in the nation by March.

A four-year stretch of 8 seed, 8 seed, 11 seed, NIT wasn't that long ago. I'm good with seven Sweet 16s, six Elite 8s, four Final Fours, a runner-up and a title in 9 full seasons and the 10th team being in contention for a 1 seed in late February. I'm sure 99 percent of college basketball fans would take that in a heartbeat.

Yeah and what is often not mentioned by other fanbases or media is we lost our best player in Noel and still had a record worthy of being an at large. Yet they dinged us because of it and kept us out. I mean it wasn't a great year by any standard (Maybe IU LOL), but we lost everyone after the title. Still, feel bad for Noel. Hurt himself hustling back when others just gave up. Imagine that rim protector on one of our good teams. What a waste.

What you are is a panic prone doofus, things go wrong for a minute and you want heads to roll, and people who would wash their hands after shaking yours to answer to you. You hate fans who don't fall apart over and over again because they highlight your lack of loyalty. And bringing someones mother into a sports disagreement show your true character, which is poorly lacking. I'm sure you're a true fan, but that doesn't mean you don't suck at it.

I haven’t panicked about anything. At all. Care to post what you’re referring to? Of course not, because you wouldn’t even know where to start. You have no concept of context you’ve already proven that. Now you’re jumping all over the place to try and prove something that never happened. You’re delusional because I don’t see the point in the way you handle discussion about Cal. That’s all it is.

You can’t grasp simple concepts. You emotionally twist yourself into a pretzel and become bent out of shape and I still don’t have the first clue as to why because I don’t even remember you around here. I sure as hell haven’t conversated with you.

And don’t even try and take a high road. You’ve been a punk since the first minute. And like I said, I don’t even know who you are at all. So there’s no bias trust me.

The thing is, all discussion aside, Cal gets the Ronald Regan (I’m a fan so don’t even) treatment around here. He’s essentially untouchable by our establishment intellects and they will come at you if you don’t appear to be hitting your knees in worship.

And they can KMA.

These are the posts I'm referring to. No one is hitting their knees...again, this is over the top.

What those of us do who appreciate the job Cal has done is give him the benefit of the doubt. Everyone has a bad moment, day or even week. But just like a baseball card, their overall stats don't usually lie.

The guy has won 81% of his games at UK. 81%...think about that, say it out loud a couple times if you need to. If it doesn't sink in...then go Google all time win percentage for college bball coaches. If Cal had only coached these 9.5 years at UK he'd be 5th on the all time win percentage list. Just behind Rupp and ahead of Wooden and about 500 other coaches.

The delusional poster(s) butt is chapped because of not having another title so they nit pick at stuff. Why not zone, why not press, why we losing recruits, on and on and on.

Why not zone, why not press? Because he wins 81% of the time...it's his process/plan and it works. Toss in 4 FF's in 9 years, maybe 5 after this year...toss in a title, maybe 2 after this year- he puts UK in a position to advance deep in the tourney almost always.

If 81% isn't enough, ask yourself what is?

I can't tell you what to do, but I can explain why I don't overreact to the Duke game, or Seton Hall in December or the first true road SEC game for a slew of Freshmen...or hell even a tip in at the buzzer-

It's because I give Cal the benefit of the doubt....his baseball card doesn't lie.

Glad you can see the future smart guy. Last year sucked and this year was supposed to be our bounce back. The first two months were not good.
If you’re not happy with the job Cal has done this year and since he’s been here than there is no pleasing someone like you. You need to have more realistic expectations and not freak out everytime we lose a game in November or December.

Oh just stop you self righteous me against the world crap! Most of us on this board get frustrated with poor play and some coaching mistakes but some douche bags who claim to be fans thrive on their negativity and never see the positive.

This original post is the perfect example. It was entitled cry baby bull crap from someone that always takes the low road. How is it being a realist if it didn’t become reality.

Everything you just said has absolutely nothing to do with me or what my positions are. This is the problem with some of you. Let people’s words be what they are.

You are debating a ghost. There are people here who attack over simple conversations about Cal. Just neutral opinions that aren’t a big deal, like Cal needing 2 titles. What’s wrong with thinking Cal needs and deserves two titles? Some of you might not care and that’s fine, but two championships is a measuring stick of the greats. A bunch of average coaches have won a title never has an average coach won two. So it’s not a bash, it’s just hoping he can get there and take that milestone.

GoshDamn this is insufferable. What is the problem?

I don’t believe pumpers are really “UK” fans right now. We’ve had pumpers wish for Cal to leave to prove a point. We have pumpers who really don’t care after we lose. A pumper in 2019 is a little more or less a Cal fan not necessarily a “UK” fan. I do believe they like UK, I just think they get caught up in a war that’s stupid and it turns them into a supporter of a guy in the seat instead of the program.
I don't know morgousky. I've been accused of being a "pumper" multiple times, and several times this season. I posted a thread after that Seton Hall loss highlighting the strengths of this season's team and was accused of being a pumper.

But hey, I'm all in on the UK program and always have been. I supported Tubby Smith until it became painfully obvious I shouldn't any longer. At the end, it became clear he should go for the good of the program. I supported Gillispie for a little while, too, and probably gave up on him later than many. I will probably support Calipari in the same way.

But here is the rub- there are some of our fans who dislike the one and done and the player turnover so much (and I don't know anyone who likes the player turnover) that they can't seem to see the good Calipari has done for the program. This season brought that out, especially after Duke and Seton Hall. Many just want Calipari to be gone and they say it's for the good of the program. Problem is, has there ever a more successful 10 year period? How can he be bad for the program? If I thought he was bad for the program, I'd be ready for him to go. But I don't see it.

As for being accused of being a pumper, I think I'd rather be accused of that than of being a legion of doom guy.

Can we make this a "sticky". In fact, can we make this required reading before posting after a loss. There is a reason I don't go into a panic after we lose a game, Cal is the coach. No I don't think he is perfect, just better than everyone else.

Do you feel better now that you got to flex your muscles?

Look, I am glad we turned it around. I was upset at the time because it looked like this year was going to be a continuation of last year, which sucked. 2017 was good. 2016 not so much.
