I kind of agree with this take. I bet if you asked ESL players and supporters they'd take a win over IMG over a state title.
I’d take both but much rather would want a trophy in the case. oh and to beat the Caravans lol. I’d take that over beating IMG, any day.

At 14-17 years old, beating IMG might be that much more important. Exposure brings different goals..so I can see that.

Just a thought so no need to pile on.
Do they really care that much about the winning 6A state championship? Or do they care more about their national schedule and how they perform against those teams and are perceived nationally? Because if they cared they would have given the ball to Cook 30 times and won, IMO. Almost like they don't have that "last game of the year do anything to win mentality". Example. in 5A the announcers kept harping on SF for not giving the ball to RB but why? What they were doing was working, last game of year do whatever you have to win...

To add, I don't care, they can run their program however they want.
I dont necessarily agree with that. MJC got more carries last night than usual. They also lined him up at wr some to try and get him the ball. Laron Baker, who rarely plays got more snaps at wr.

I think they just didn't come prepared to play and let the cold weather dictate their attitude for the game. Watching half the team warm up with jackets on while none of the Fenwick players did sort of forecasted for me what type of energy they were going to play with. Then, that first 3 and out drive, bad snap and Shanklin just seeming to have no urgency to pick the ball up. I knew it was going to be a bad night.

IMO, you combat that as a coach with just pounding the ball.

They looked and played cold.

Didn't see the game but it sounds like mistakes hurt them more than the game plan. Cook had 26 carries for 183 and 2 TDs.
I dont think that really tells the story of a good game plan. Numerous drives ended in Fenwicks redzone where 3 or 4 more carries for Cook (or either of the rbs) would probably end in TDs. Sunkett seemed to be sort of stubborn and prove he could throw against the 6 DB/light box Fenwick played with all night.

I’ve said at start of season it depends on o-line and tackling on defense, Which was suspect even in STL game as far as o-line along with bad snaps. But give credit to Fenwick they did not back down. But the Flyers will be back next year. I just hope with a better faster o-line. Better tackling on defense.

I thought the o line was really good at run blocking. Even against some of the top DL players in the country they were able to run the ball. Their pass blocking was always meh.

I just feel like we need to open the playbook up. We have a tremendous amount of athletes. We can do more but I always say, the coaches know best. Us sideline critics have 0 knowledge beyond what we see…but man it’s tough watching sometimes lol

We play man on defense and I’m always thinking, why not play with a safety. At least 1…I mean anyone can eventually get open when playing man to man. Even against a D1 recruit..we rely on our D line getting pressure on the QB…but again, the coaches know best..but again, it’s tough…

good thing though, there is always opportunities for improvement. I trust Sunk to come back next year and seal the deal.

I do like that we bring out the best in Illinois though. You can’t mention Illinois high school football without mentioning the Flyers. You start a ESL thread and watch the amount of attention it gets. Especially if we lose.
hate it or love it, we are a driving force in Illinois. Congratulations to Fenwick again. You deserve all the credit. You beat one of the big dogs in the state.

Yea playing cover 0 seems to be his thing. Alot of esl DBs get some heat for giving up passing yards but when you are playing man against 5 wide everytime, eventually, you are going to give up a big play.

Last night, I think they should have condensed the playbook some. The weather plus the clear advantage you had with your rbs seemed like a perfect time to be super run heavy. And even when they did pass, they didn't push the ball down the field

I agree. Condense the pass but get creative with the run. 3 dynamic backs…we can do a lot man..

Yes, I agree they are hyper focused on that and good for them (I mean that sincerely). But last night wasn't putting a kid into college, they could have played it simple and won IMO.
I would disagree with your statement, nothing against ESL but they certainly helped a few Fenwick players recruiting stock rise!
