I’ll 2nd the Aruba selection. The water is incredibly warm and you don’t even need a wetsuit even diving 40 Feet down. Expensive but safe, despite the murder that occurred there years ago. Stay on Pacific Beach. Thought food was ok, but nothing great.

For best service, I’d say Dreams, Punta Cana. People wait on you and after they fulfill your request and you say thank you, they respond with “It’s a pleasure”. I felt like the Emperor.

To many to separate but honestly have to say Grand Cayman ended up one of my worst ever but may have just been bad circumstance. Back in the day when I could book a week for a staff of 8 to do disaster recovery testing for IBM and keep all the points for myself. We usually stayed at the courtyard in RAmsey. I hadn’t realized how many points I had so called Marriott to find out I could book a 10 days for 2 for a suite anywhere in the world. We selected Grand Cayman as we had just watched the movie, the Firm.
We get there and the Marriott Resort seemed more like a business hotel. Had a lobby bar and a single outside tiki bar. Well, it rained for more than half the trip and here we were stuck in this boring hotel.meanwhile, the place down the street looked like a non stop party. I am also not a diver, so not much to do. Spent most of those 10 days rained in ordering room service and drinking at a lobby bar.sucked...

Kuai. Breathtaking scenery , beaches, Waimea Canyon, Kodiak rafts around the coast, snorkeling in Hanalei Bay.

Negril, Jamaica, 30 friends rented a villa, Ziggy Marley played nearby around midnight. YS Waterfalls excursion, sunset catamaran excursions, great beaches with topless Euro chicks, great bars on the cliffs, the obligatory Ricks Cafe to for sunset and watch the cliff divers. Just a cool, relaxed vibe.

West Coast of Costa Rica- Herradura/ Jaco . Family vacation. Stayed at Los Suenos, a Marriot Marina resort. Lots of great scenery nearby eg Rain Forests, Volcanos, Rivers w huge alligators etc. Resort had a fabulous pool complex next to a beach. Had golf carts to take us to the little beach town 1/2 mile down the road. The Golf Course at the Resort backed up to a rain forest, we would take beer and wine, and used the 4 person golf cart to ride to the back of the golf course where the Rain Forest started ,and watch and listen to the colorful birds, and monkeys while having a beverage.

Lake Placid during the Christmas- New Years Eve week. Smaller group of friends renting houses on Mirror Lake. Great town for pub crawls, ice bucket rides down the bob sled run , snow mobile safaris through the state parks, tobagganing, watch the ski jumpers, some of our crowd even skiied a bit, lol. If time permits, an overnight excursion to Montreal, also a beautiful city, sort of like a Paris in North America.

We've spoken about this before. Negril is my place. And "cool, relaxed vibe". is a pretty good attempt at explaining the place. I knew I was in heaven when they greeted you with shots of Appleton rum and three old guys playing Bob Marley tunes. And twenty guys asking you if you wanna buy some herb before you even left the airport.
I've been to lots of other great places over the years. But we always hit Negril at least once a year. Not a big fan of Rick's. Unless you plan on taking the leap yourself, you can get a much better view of the cliff divers from in one of the Booze Cruise boats below.
My favorite trip would be when my wife and I got married down there. Best week of my life.

So second Switzerland. I could not believe how beautiful it was.

Anyone ever dive in Utila? We just booked a trip for May.

Looking to go diving in Cuba next year (my family is from Cuba, so definitely some sentimental value). Also looking to dive Galapagos in 2 years for 40th bday.

  1. Cruising in the Mediterranean
  2. Cruising in the Baltic
  3. Driving around Ireland
I had the opportunity last summer to cruise in the Mediterranean for my honeymoon on a 3 mast sailboat with only about 50 passengers (half of whom were Australia and a freakin blast to hang out with). Stops in Malta, Sicily, Amalfi, Ponza, Corsica, Elba, Monte Carlo and others. Since it was a pretty small boat it could get to ports that larger ships can't. A stunning, once in a lifetime experience.

As for weekend getaways, I'd put Maine near the top of the list.

What company did you book that with?
