If Greg gets 5 wins with this schedule he deserves a lifetime contract.

Given RUs milquetoast schedule…anything not 7 or better should be grounds for firing. An absolutely putrid OOC (as usual) slate and a bunch of mediocre B1G games except for IU and USC. UM and the cult are complete unknowns and were it not for their “marquee” names they’d be thought of as “ehh!”
Are we still going to complain about the OOC schedule??? I thought we put that to bed years ago. Unless you're a top level team everyone plays a putrid OOC schedule.

Agree. It is what it is and it’s what everyone else is doing too.
At least for this year we have a “name” and a destination for one of the OOC games in BCU. Many P2 programs don’t even have either.
As for the B1G schedule, we also have a destination and a brand new facility for Northwestern.
The saying goes “when making an omelette, you have to break some eggs.” The football culture at RU prior to GS 1.0 was abominable. Terry Shea set back the program to D2 level. Morale in school and program were at all time low and NJ gave two sh*ts about RU football. Just the thought about RU being invited to the B10 would have been laughable.
Enter the young U of Miami stud DC fresh off a national championship from NJ and was even a GA at RU prior. Greg could have gone anywhere in the country to be a head coach with a vacancy but he knew there was great potential at the state university of NJ. Rutgers was a D1 program run like it was in the Patriot league but once he got some assurances from Bob Mulcahy he was up for the challenge. He was young, brash and exactly what the NJ football culture needed. I’m sure he let many a players, admins, parents etc know exactly where their opinions of themselves fit in the larger scheme of things. Greg definitely elevated the program but not without mistakes, winning a conference championship or playing in a NYD bowl game.
GS 2.0 starts back up again in the wake of putrid coaching, on field performance and adaptation to modern college football within one of the toughest conferences in the country. A more mellowed, self assured and more willing to delegate Greg with access to significantly greater resources at his disposal entered the fray. The Rutgers football program is once again respectable which is as low bar expectation can be when trying to compete for championships.
Love Greg and his journey which is quintessentially Rutgers and New Jersey but his lasting legacy will be largely steered by the team‘s performance this season.
Can RU win seven or more games with an upward trajectory or will his return high point have been a six win season and a non-descript bowl?
Whether RU wins seven or more games or RU loses six or more games this season, it will not change the fact that Greg was exactly what RU football needed at its worst moments in time.
RU is no longer at its worst moments in history and expectations now need to be raised for the program and for Greg.

Greg’s 2.0 record is as good as the $$ would allow. No coach on the planet could have done any better. Most would have done much, much worse!
If we were in the ACC, we’d have gotten a couple of championships by now.
Coach Schiano has never been the problem.
It’s not all about money. In GS 1.0 he never won a conference championship out right. He at times played not to lose and adjusted poorly to spread offenses like U of Cincinnati. He established a winning culture but not a championship culture.
It’s fair to say that Greg would win more in ACC but not to say a conference championship would have been won. There’s no past evidence to say that.
That being said Greg has evolved and has more resources now with better players and coaches. Good coaching can get RU to 7 wins this season. Great coaching can get 8-9 wins.
Mediocre coaching gets us 5-6 wins.
This season will show what path he is on.

What has GS done that gives you any semblance of confidence in that statement?
What big game has he won?
What game day coaching decisions has he made to win games?
We know plenty of decisions he's made, 20 years into being a head coach, to lose games

It is amazing- GS 1.0 was pretty good in many big games and we had some amazing upsets- but GS 2.0 - I am pretty much sure he has had zero upsets at all.

It’s one of those things that is still missing from making it a successful 2.0.
As I’ve said, IMO that would be an appearance at a traditional NYD6 bowl.
But to get there, that is probably what has to happen…one of those types of wins.
