I expect the next 8 years to be a disaster. Shad, Dilbert, Gunn? It will be Phil Bryant all over againWhat sucks about TateR, is that he only has 8 years.
Georgia has had the same issue with Brian Kemp. Tennessee too with Bill Lee. Louisiana has a good one now, so I expect a good 8 run for that state.
Just phenomenal governors. The key is not electing an idiot after they leave, and GA/TN are well on their way to doing that. They’ve had so much growth they don’t see the forest for the trees.
Hopefully Andy G will get elected… but he won’t fold to money, so probably notI expect the next 8 years to be a disaster. Shad, Dilbert, Gunn? It will be Phil Bryant all over again
Gunn is easily the most normal of those choices.I expect the next 8 years to be a disaster. Shad, Dilbert, Gunn? It will be Phil Bryant all over again
***allegedly a male chauvinist***Gunn is easily the most normal of those choices.
I said 'normal'...***allegedly a male chauvinist***
What makes you say that? From my perspective, he comes across as a fairly conventional politician. His public image strikes me as manufactured, and his overall approach often feels more performative than genuine.but he won’t fold to money
He’s an honest, hard working guy. Know many people who know him personally. He won’t fold to money for a campaignWhat makes you say that? Yes, his schtik is would have been perfect in the Ross Barnett era. What makes you say that? From my perspective, he comes across as a fairly conventional politician. His public image strikes me as manufactured, and his overall approach often feels more performative than genuine.
I don't see anyone beating Shad. I like him personally & he’s extremely smart. But he’s going to be the Mississippi Republican Establishment puppet to the end.I expect the next 8 years to be a disaster. Shad, Dilbert, Gunn? It will be Phil Bryant all over again
He seems like a good guy to me too. We could do much worse. He’s an honest, hard working guy. Know many people who know him personally. He won’t fold to money for a campaign
My reading of him too. What makes you say that? From my perspective, he comes across as a fairly conventional politician. His public image strikes me as manufactured, and his overall approach often feels more performative than genuine.
I know him and like him fine. The whole Establishment thing is weird, though. Kind of wish he’d been born into a different state for everyone’s sakeI don't see anyone beating Shad. I like him personally & he’s extremely smart. But he’s going to be the Mississippi Republican Establishment puppet to the end.
Phil Gunn, Lynn Fitch, or Andy Gipson would all be good choices. Dilbert would be the MS good ole boy pick albeit Tate was too & has done a bang up job. Shad likes the camera too much for me. Regarding Phil Gunn, he has bigger balls then 99% of politicians in MS and his leadership on the flag issue was 100% the right call and made Tate’s job easier to sell MS to big business and Tate would have never made that principled stand.I expect the next 8 years to be a disaster. Shad, Dilbert, Gunn? It will be Phil Bryant all over again
The guy is from rural Simpson County and is a preacher. He's exactly who he appears to be and he's a pretty sharp guy. I'm not a Tator lover like some here. I certainly don't like the data center push and fraud we've seen under his watch. But he's done some things well too. What makes you say that? From my perspective, he comes across as a fairly conventional politician. His public image strikes me as manufactured, and his overall approach often feels more performative than genuine.
I'm glad he got his teeth fixedI like Shad White's bio. He hasn't decided to run as far as I can tell. Other than Tater Tot, I would likely vote for him if he ran.
It’s not a schtick. He’s really like that. What makes you say that? From my perspective, he comes across as a fairly conventional politician. His public image strikes me as manufactured, and his overall approach often feels more performative than genuine.
We definitely have some risk. We have a lot of talented younger politicians coming up that would be good but aren’t ready or aren’t going to be competitive this cycle.I expect the next 8 years to be a disaster. Shad, Dilbert, Gunn? It will be Phil Bryant all over again
Not sure I would use age as a factor. I've seen several 90+ year old individuals run circles around a 20-40 year old. As long as they represent what I prefer and can do the job, I'm good with them.We definitely have some risk. We have a lot of talented younger politicians coming up that would be good but aren’t ready or aren’t going to be competitive this cycle.
Shad is smart. I think he could struggle to win because of his physical appearance. As stupid as that is, it matters to a lot of people. The same reason Lynn fitch could be competitive. I think you’ll see a lot of people working against her behind the scenes though. I don’t care for Delbert, but he’d be a safe choice other than being so old, but maybe he’d be a one term governor because of his age and a one term governor might be what we want out of the current crop. I’m less familiar with Gunn and Gipson. Gipson comes off as fake and annoying to me, but I suspect that will play well enough with a lot of voters.
He’s running. No doubt about it.I like Shad White's bio. He hasn't decided to run as far as I can tell. Other than Tater Tot, I would likely vote for him if he ran.
You should absolutely use age as a factor. It’s not just how sharp & healthy they are now, it’s how sharp & healthy will they be 4-1/2 years after the primary. When you’re 80+, a LOT can happen in 4-1/2 years. And often does. Not sure I would use age as a factor. I've seen several 90+ year old individuals run circles around a 20-40 year old. As long as they represent what I prefer and can do the job, I'm good with them.
I expected to see a real Quasimodo, based on your comment.Shad is smart. I think he could struggle to win because of his physical appearance. As stupid as that is, it matters to a lot of people.

Sorry, my post wasn't clear. I wasn't talking about attractiveness per se but presence. The lack of size with the large ears are detrimental. He also has to have a tailored jacket on, which I think he always does now. But at its worst, he comes off as geeky accountant. That doesn't sound too bad to me, but a lot of low information voters are going off a pretty superficial impression, and it matters it people perceive you as competent or not based on your appearance.I expected to see a real Quasimodo, based on your comment.
...I mean, the dude isnt gonna make women go weak in the knees with lust, but he also doesnt look repulsive.

At the national level we've been governed by octogenarians in both parties & in the supreme court for decades now. And that's worked out OK. What could possibly go wrong? **It is shortsighted to be rigidly ageist when it comes to elected officials, but it is also highly detrimental to totally ignore the reality of aging and how quickly people's physical and mental abilities change in just a few years.
Age is always a factor for the Mississippi Governor as you have to be at least 30 years old. The obvious argument is that creating an age maximum is no different from creating an age minimum.
Just something to chew on.
A geeky economist. We haven't had an accountant as State Auditor in decades. That said, I think he does a good job with the resources he has (actually I think most of the non-CPA state auditors have). But at its worst, he comes off as geeky accountant.
I've had meetings with him and he comes across as sincere. He is either 1) finding more fraud that his predecessor or 2) better at socializing his results so we see more of it or 3) bothI like Shad White's bio. He hasn't decided to run as far as I can tell. Shad graduated in political science from Ole Miss, MS from Oxford (the real one) in Economic and Social History and JD from Harvard.A geeky economist. He has an economics degree from UMiss as well. It's a pretty impressive resume. And as I've said before he's very intelligent, but he's not too much of a geek. Pretty grounded guy who can laugh at himself.Shad graduated in political science from Ole Miss, MS from Oxford (the real one) in Economic and Social History and JD from Harvard.
My advice to young, single Bulldogs starting out is to find you a gal that looks at you like FreeDawg looks at Andy Gibson.I flew to DC recently sitting the isle over from Andy. I didn’t speak to him but I watched him closely. Dude worked the terminal at JAN & DCA like a pro. Dude has the IT factor no doubt. Very charismatic in an authentic way. He’s the most talented natural politician in the group with only Gunn as competition in that regard.
