Liberty made their bed now they have to sleep in it. Key paragraph (for me):
I'm a Liberty fan and a Chadwell fan. I don't think he's on the hot seat. Last year was pretty bad for him however, things just never clicked right. I expect better this year, but Liberty is between a rock and a hard place. I often wish they had not moved up. They have a great campus and nice facilities, but there's no way at this time they can complete with the Power Conferences for the best players.
He did well at CCU with an innovative offense and some good skill players to run it. Like most offenses, people eventually find a way to defend it and the advantage is minimized without good players.I'm a Liberty fan and a Chadwell fan.
Liberty is outside the top 100 in NIL spending by most estimates. I'm a Flames Club member and I'm pretty sure that's correct. They're still a solid mid-major program with a growing NIL, but they try to compete more on culture, coaching, and facilities than dollars.I didn't realize they were FCs up till 2018, and o ly joined a conference (CUSA) in 2023. Definitely an upward climb, but they have money, as I've heard.
I follow Liberty athletics and like Chadwell, too. I don't expect him to "compete with the Power Conferences for the best players," but he should be able to compete with the best G5 programs.I'm a Liberty fan and a Chadwell fan. Basically describes us compared to the SEC and B1GLiberty made their bed now they have to sleep in it. Key paragraph (for me):
"Coaches in the Group of Six are being asked to win their conference and make a run at the College Football Playoff, while consistently losing players to teams that can simply pay more. They're also all hoping to position themselves for the future, so they can best be situated for whatever may come next. It isn't an easy job."
I believe Chadwell would have done better here as well. For one, I think Chadwell would have made better hiring decisions as he is an experienced HC, in comparison Beamer had to learn on the job, which showed. If Chadwell had been hired when Beamer was hired, he would have done much better than Beamer has done.
I can see Beamer going 6-6 or 7-5, getting an extension and his job is safe for a few years. Meanwhile, Chadwell will have a great season, Dabo will leave Clemson, Clemson will hire Chadwell and he will go on to win a lot of games for them and beat SC regularly going forward.I like Chadwell and have for awhile. I believe he is a good football coach. Why? He has won at multiple schools. One time can be luck. Two times can be a coincidence. Three times makes a trend. If he has a really good year this coming season and Beamer does not produce, I would not be shocked to see him in Columbia replacing Beamer.
Beamer never learned. Donati had to make the hires that Beamer was unable to.I believe Chadwell would have done better here as well. For one, I think Chadwell would have made better hiring decisions as he is an experienced HC, in comparison Beamer had to learn on the job, which showed.
If your scenario plays out, like you think, in year 7 of the Beamer era, to paraphrase Forrest Gump: "Loser is as loser does" will define our football program.I can see Beamer going 6-6 or 7-5, getting an extension and his job is safe for a few years.
There will be a large number of fans who will point to 2024 and say, "we know he can win, he just needs more time".If your scenario plays out, like you think, in year 7 of the Beamer era, to paraphrase Forrest Gump: "Loser is as loser does" will define our football program.
I believe you are correct, I thought this from the start.Beamer never learned. Donati had to make the hires that Beamer was unable to.

I am really optimistic we are about to enjoy a very solid season, I think our offense is going to be much more effective by design. Loggains to his credit recognized the athletic ability of Sellers and chose to let him be Sellers, where Shula started to tinker with him almost immediately. Now we have great coaches at OL, RB and OC, Go Gamecocks!I agree. Can't prove it, but I believe it.
Beamer's worst trait is not being able to separate loyalty from good coaching decisions.I believe Chadwell would have done better here as well. For one, I think Chadwell would have made better hiring decisions as he is an experienced HC, in comparison Beamer had to learn on the job, which showed.
Every former coach was terrible, and every new coach is great (until they are replaced, then, they were terrible).I am really optimistic we are about to enjoy a very solid season, I think our offense is going to be much more effective by design. I think one area where we are apt to see noticeable improvement is the offensive line. Lonnie Teasley was absolutely terrible here, people can choose to debate that if they so choose.Every former coach was terrible, and every new coach is great (until they are replaced, then, they were terrible).
Three years ago, he was incredible. He was bringing in loads of talent and was rebuilding the unit that Muschamp had ruined.I think one area where we are apt to see noticeable improvement is the offensive line. Big problem there, we do not have a proven running back! Again, hoping for the best, but if Fuller gets hurt we could be in trouble there again! The expectations for last year coupled with the bowl game loss preceding it have really jaded the fanbase, most of whom don’t have a clue what they’re talking about and don’t care. The absence of Rocket Sanders left Sellers over exposed and he choked big time, grievously so. If an effective threat at running back is missing once again results could be similar, although the influx of offensive coaching minds we hired is a vast improvement and will likely mitigate that to a workable extent. If an effective running threat does indeed emerge, that will open up many doors that were not open last season, closed doors that it’s easy to blame on an offensive line alone. Aside from improved offensive line play, we need VASTLY improved receiver play both in terms of blocking, running routes like they actually want the ball, and selling out when they get it.

To be clear, I wasn’t saying rb was the only problem with the offense last year, just that we are thin at proven rb this year!Boiling last years failures down the RB position is a sign of fan who doesn't really know what he's talking about. And never played the game outside of a gaming console.
We have many cracks to fill on offense, starting up front. And i have yet to hear definitive news on our two high dollar OL injuries.
We have a qb that still needs to improve as a passer, and seems to have lost his desire to fight for yards on the ground. (Since the concussion?)
A running game that struggled behind last year's OL doesnt excuse these weaknesses, it magnifies them.

As usual you miss the point in your dogged zeal to be combative and prissy. C+ for effort though. Stick with The Hallmark Channel.Boiling last years failures down the RB position is a sign of fan who doesn't really know what he's talking about. And never played the game outside of a gaming console.

Not sure about that. I would give Briles a couple years rather than hire Chadwell right now. It seems defenses always figure out new offenses eventually. With that said, I'm betting on our staff. I'm not sure Chadwell could put one like ours together, but like I said we'll just have to wait and see!I would take him in a second .... for all the same reasons I preferred Chadwell way back when. Even in the weird covid timeframe couple years with transfers and especially now in the last 2-3 years with heavy NIL and immediate transfers I think you'd better have an offense that is dynamic and a step ahead of how defenses defend and personnel their defenses.
We will continue to not be much other than a .500 program attempting to play the same type of ball that GA, UT, UF, LSU, Alabama, Auburn (etc) play. We are and will continue to be behind them in standard personnel and coaches due to budget and other reasons.
Does anyone remember Clemson in 99-2000 w/ RichRod? U. Meyer at UF? Woody Dantzler looked like a girl throwing a football. The majority of UFs receivers during that time were absolute bums (save P. Harvin and R. Cooper). But, they had cutting edge offenses that were employed and defenses had to play catch up for a few years. Yes- UF did try to be "normal" one year under UM and that was the pedestrian year they had offensively.
You do realize this staff has done nothing, right? Two years ago, Loggains was a genius after a 9-3 season. Then, Shula was going to be incredible bringing in all of his NFL knowledge. Now, Briles is going to light the woods on fire. Teasley was a great OL coach, bringing in loads of talent. Now, he was the worst OL coach in football history and Clements is going to turn the OL into an All American unit. Not sure about that. All of these new coaches are trying to succeed with a RB playing QB, a totally new, unproven OL, a pedestrian receiver corps and no real running game threat. I don't think changing the OC and OL coach is going to be the magic bullet. Who knows, maybe year six is the year Beamer figures out the head coaching job? Chadwell is going into year 17 as a head coach. I think he might now how to put a staff together.
