Most Satisfying to See Beaten Early, Badly or Both

I'm like Jefe and Roar. I just have a hard time rooting for any college athlete to lose, even though clearly there are some that are less likeable than others and some that have frustrating tendencies. If their loss helps PSU, then sure, I hope all of them lose (the PSU guys have already taken on all challengers and beaten most anyone that was thrown on the mat against them during the regular season, so I don't mind seeing someone fall asleep and get upset at this point (still don't like to see injuries though)). There are a couple of guys whose personalities really rub me the wrong way, but I'll let karma deal with that and don't wish for bad things for people that I don't really know.

Probably the only guy who will say this but I'm going to enjoy seeing Joey Blaze lose. I'm still bitter about his anti-wrestling performance against Kasak last year.

That being said we are going to be seeing A LOT of that this weekend. Ideally the coaches are getting them ready to force the action and early stall calls to avoid it.
I can’t really cheer for that because I have a very nice neighbor whose name is Joey blaze.

Watch 125 lbs Round Of 32 - Landon Sidun, Unrostered - Hutchy Hammers vs Grey Burnett, Unrostered - Perrysburg on FloWrestling.

Guys who go to a knee tend to do it against the better competition. Angelo isn't doing it much against mediocre guys either .

Here is the consi

My thoughts won’t change. I’d love to see it gone or called as stalling. Jeez….we count for top guys with hands below the a$$, so is no reason the knee can’t be addressed in a similar fashion. Particularly since most of the guys who do it also go backwards.

I can't fault Mendez for ambition. He's clearly the dominant guy @ 141, but as of now, nobody's torching opponents like Mesenbrink or Barr.

Add all Okie State. While I understand former Lions won't all be Lions forever, it seemed to me Taylor left in a snit because Brooks beat him-something he should have expected since Brooks was younger and a more natural at 86KG.

Plus I find all the hype annoying. Taylor pushed Hamiti over the top, but that might have been him going 174 and a change of scenery that might have been the magic sauce. Hendrickson was a 5th year guy, who was fortunate Steveson assumed everybody would bow before him. So far, don't see anything special from Facundo, Swiderski and Richie Figs is a crash victim. Jax would be r/s except for Figs' swan dive.
Let me summarize: If you take away the good performances in Stillwater, the rest isn’t so good.

All these guys plus Lockett and Jax for me. But I don’t want them to lose early, I want the PSU guys to send them packing.

I know it’s a long shot, but one guy I’d love to see get beat is Mendez to shut up all the Hodge favorite BS.
Mendez...but he's just more skilled.

If Taylor wins that match and goes on to win another Olympic medal, is he still living in State College and competing or is he coaching in Stillwater?

My guess is he would still be in Stillwater, but probably for even more money. 🥇=💰

Hardy, Cornella, and Vega, to grease Davis' path.

Kueter, to grease Mirasola's path.
As president of the Davis Fan Club, I approve. I love me some quarter gas tank scooter, let it fly and end the matches early...because if it goes to the third we are calling AAA.

He has some stellar recruiting classes on paper . We'll see if that translates to team titles.
If those recruiting classes result in his program being as dominant a second place team as Penn State has become a dominant 1st place team, wouldn't that be a helluva job?

I would like to see them just incorporate moving backwards without initiating an offensive attack as an automatic stall.
Not somebody being physically manhandled and shoved backwards, but the guy who slides his way to the edge and hasn't initiated a single attack.
Yeah, I know. If wishes were horses, beggars would ride.

I predicted Brandon Cannon to be the number 1 ranked guy who wouldn't place this year (to much ridicule I might add), but I find myself hoping he has a good tournament after learning about his entire journey. I can't stand Manning but I can't help but like so many of the guys on that team (Hardy and Taylor) a lot. I guess watching Shapiro or Locket go down early wouldn't break my heart. I just hope we see no bad injuries to any of these great young men on all of these teams. These guys are all that is still great about our country imo. Everybody in this tournament is elite in my eyes.

It doesn't bother me at all. Wrestling is an art not everyone is gonna do it the same. @Coastal2 said I didnt know what I was talking about and put up or shut up so I posted those videos for him. And I'm shocked hes been here but never responded 🤣

Jax, not because of him though, I want to see the reaction of all the people who think he is the greatest wrestler ever already.
Only thing better was if Bassett had gotten beat in the state finals. Next year, Flo, et al will be all Bassett all the time 24-7 and forget about Jax. Personally, I think we all is said and done, Duke will turn out to be the pick of the young guns ...

Spencer, maybe in the semis by 3rd period fall to Ramos.

(Not because of any issue with Spencer, who is great, but to shut up Iowa fans that think he’s better than the dozen of guys through PSU’s program over the last decade who have been just as good or better.)

Not proud of it, but, unlike you three, even at my age, pettiness lingers. Don’t need a tech. One-point losses will do. In order:

AJF – 2nd and 3rd chances after a near-fatal joyride never tamped down the arrogance
Angelo – great wrestler or frightened altar boy? Get off your damn knees and show us
Meyer – for smearing Tyler
Jesse – only because there are more deserving Hodge candidates

Hijacking the premise, my Most Satisfying Non-Lion to win a title would be: Brock Hardy, with Taye Ghadiali runnerup.

As an Iowa wrestling fan, and since I don't mind you all that much, I'm glad you find satisfaction in the "art" of defensive wrestling. As a PSU fan, I hope your team continues to wrestle with that same kind of "artistry"

Dude, you are dreaming! That is NEVER going to happen!

By the way, if this were ever to happen, I want to be clear that Spencer was gutting it out as the most injured wrestler in the history of this sport or any sporting event in history. His guts far surpass Kerri Strug or that pansy Ronnie Lott who cut off part of his finger to keep playing. He also was extremely sick, sicker than anyone who ever competed, much worse than Michael Jordan in the playoffs against the Jazz and his opponent was on steroids, more steroids than McGwire, Sosa and Bonds combined. Even with all of those things included, you can hold onto your glasses, as it simply won't happen!

You do realize somebody must lose, right? If you conduct yourself like a jerk (Shapiro, Albert J) then I'd be satisfied to see you lose. If you wrestle not to lose or spend 5 minutes on a knee or running to the edge of the mat like Taylor, Fiats, I want you to lose-actually I want you DQ'd out for stalling. If you are 25 or 26 years old, hanging to college wrestling, hoping your experience and peak physical maturity finally prevails over 20 year olds-dude-grow up.

There's some guys I'd prefer to see lose, simply because their coaches are are annoying Manning, too a lesser extent Ryan and Bormet.

I'll "root" for the Bloomsburg kid because it's fun to see a small school kid in the mix in the 125 pig tail match, but not when he gets to LL.

And by root, I mean derive ex post satisfaction. I'm not suffering under any delusions that my ex ante preferences mean squat to the outcome.

And I never want anybody to be injured. even if Ferrari does a split the way Andy did on The Office.

Had he won, he would have been pursuing another Oly medal, unless Okie State was going to hold the job open for a couple months.
If Taylor had ended up winning another gold medal, I think it would have just made the Ok State people more determined to get him.

No doubt, but would they have a cost to the waiting. It would be harder to get moved, get a staff, get the team on board and get situated, plus try to keep the recruiting pipeline open in August rather than May of '24.

Since you asked, the truth is, currently Caliendo is the outlier for the "Iowa style", while Welsh (Bartlett is a better example) is the outlier of the "PSU style" and it makes me happy that you are o.k. with the artistry of both of these style. :)

I might be a little bit late on this, but, are you saying that you aren't an Iowa fan? I mean, I'm definitely a PSU fan, but, I'm also just a true fan of the sport of wrestling. Like I've said many times, I've got zero problem with you, but, one thing you do that makes me laugh is that you run to the Iowa board to "tell on us" quite often.

My rooting interest usually goes in this order:

1. PSU guys
2. Guys going against wrestlers on teams that are a threat to PSU winning it all (this hasn't existed over the last few years)
3. PA high school guys
4. Guys going against rival school........currently OKST, tOSU, Iowa, Nebraska
5. PA college wrestlers
6. All wrestlers

The I'm a Iowa fan has gone on for years . I'm a wrestling fan who has some friends in Iowa and I spent time in Iowa so I know some of the Iowa kids . So I'm a fan of a few individually as I am some Penn st guys. Lived in NJ so I like Van Ness he's a nice kid and his Dad is a good guy. Been around Duke some and like him as well. I actually won a signed singlet from him a few years ago and I told him to keep and when he wins Olympic Gold he can sign it Olympic Champ. Some on the Iowa boards say im a Penn St fan and go post there 🤷.

The hiring may have been delayed, but pretty sure he would have left eventually. Everything has its price. How do you say no to that kind of money. The options were wait possibly 10 years for Cael to retire or take unbelievable money now and go to a historical program that will give you everything you want/need to be successful.

Be interesting to watch the boards tune change on knee wrestling in the future. One of the top recruits lives on a knee
Bouzakis wrestles from a knee alot and you dont hear anybody pitching about him. You being the wrestling guru you are should be able to see the difference if not than you ain't much of a guru.
