I'm like Jefe and Roar. I just have a hard time rooting for any college athlete to lose, even though clearly there are some that are less likeable than others and some that have frustrating tendencies. If their loss helps PSU, then sure, I hope all of them lose (the PSU guys have already taken on all challengers and beaten most anyone that was thrown on the mat against them during the regular season, so I don't mind seeing someone fall asleep and get upset at this point (still don't like to see injuries though)). There are a couple of guys whose personalities really rub me the wrong way, but I'll let karma deal with that and don't wish for bad things for people that I don't really know.
You do realize somebody must lose, right? If you conduct yourself like a jerk (Shapiro, Albert J) then I'd be satisfied to see you lose. If you wrestle not to lose or spend 5 minutes on a knee or running to the edge of the mat like Taylor, Fiats, I want you to lose-actually I want you DQ'd out for stalling. If you are 25 or 26 years old, hanging to college wrestling, hoping your experience and peak physical maturity finally prevails over 20 year olds-dude-grow up.
There's some guys I'd prefer to see lose, simply because their coaches are are annoying Manning, too a lesser extent Ryan and Bormet.
I'll "root" for the Bloomsburg kid because it's fun to see a small school kid in the mix in the 125 pig tail match, but not when he gets to LL.
And by root, I mean derive
ex post satisfaction. I'm not suffering under any delusions that my
ex ante preferences mean squat to the outcome.
And I never want anybody to be injured. even if Ferrari does a split the way Andy did on
The Office.
