You never fish the Jackson river in va? Just biked along it yesterday and it looked fantastic
Never that far down. I used to love fishing more northern Shenandoah streams early in the season, along with streams in the Camp David area of MD.

Hoping to get in some golf in some of or all of the following states ... Mississippi, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Kansas, North Dakota, California. These are the only states I have not played golf in yet.

Looking into a Viking European river cruise for our 30th anniversary sometime this year.
Take a look at AmaWaterways for Euro river cruises. Everything is included(all excursions) where Viking seemed to be a la carte with excursions. We are taking 2nd cruise with Ama this year on the Siene which includes a full day excursion in Normandy . They treat you very well as service is top notch. Did the Danube a couple years ago and loved every minute of it.

Son’s last year in Montana as a student (he has a PSU degree already). I am going to do my best to make multiple visits. I have yet to see Glacier and the Missoula region of the state. I have a lot of trout I’d like to meet. The trout of the Madison know me quite well as do many on the Gallatin.

I’m not fancy like many of you. If I can sneak away to coastal Oregon to go fly fishing for 4 days I’ll be happy. If I can get a second trip of the same duration for trout or steelhead it’ll be a great year. When I’m dead they’ll just stand around saying I was an ******* despite putting my late-life family first.

Family doing Universal for 5-ish days next month, mostly because “everybody” thinks we should. Wife-figure’s side is like that - they really don’t know why they do what they do. Any attempt to teach them how to optimize/make better decisions just makes them glaze over.
Hit the upper region of the Deschutes for some fun, and for a unique experience find your way to the Metolious River. It is a beautiful spring creek within the forrest and cut through some crazy volcanic features. It is a very tough water for catching, though guys do well with streamers at dusk for giant bull trout. Bring heavy tackle - lol.

We were going to do an AMA Danube cruise this past summer but our travel agent f***d up our potential airline reservations and we deep sixed the trip. AMA seemed like an excellent option. We may use them in the future. Currently we are doing Road Scholar trips because our trip with them this past summer was excellent.

Also, ymmv but the Prado in Madrid is a superb art museum, the best I’ve seen. Rick Steves has a museum guidebook, takes you through the best of the stuff. I’ve learned not to go on and on about art (people’s eyes start to glaze over) but if you want some specifics, lmk.
That's Mrs KG (about art museums)--so I'm careful when planning a trip. As she is a mechanics's daughter, she loved the Transportation Annex of the Deutsches Museum in Munich and the Mercedes Benz Museum in Stuttgart. But I hit a home run a few years back with the Van Gogh Museum. She didn't like the main museum but absolutely loved the special exhibition on the last couple of months of his life. The exhibition put things into the context of his life, what he was going through, and the place where he was living.

It looks like industrial tourism is really taking off in China. Recently more than 100,000 people entered the lottery for about 200 tours in December and January for EV plant. China hopes to have 20 million industrial tourist visits by 2027. Tiger moms are flocking in to have their kids see what technology can do and hopefully influence them into STEM careers. By the extensive travel plans listed here, some of you probably own factories in China.
Probable paywall
At the end of one of the tours , you can get a pic next to the xiaomi SU7. I’m generally not into EV‘s, but this thing seems exceptional at the price. Zero to 60 under 2 seconds, and priced under $120k loaded top model

I've toured a couple of automotive plants plus a behind the scenes at our local Bud brewery (not available to tourists). VW twice (1973 and 2005) and the Mercedes plant in Tuscaloosa while we were there for the Bama game.

I've driven a Chinese EV/hybrid--the Lynk & Co 08--when we were in Germany a few years back. Was pretty decent.

Cool. I have been tempted by a Celebrity Cruise on one of newest ships, and that is newest. Leaning towards something different if we do a cruise.
For the most part, we really enjoy Celebrity. Dining is better in the specialty restaurants (not that it isn’t ok in the main dining room). I’ve been pretty disappointed in the fish and don’t eat meat. The meat-eaters were mostly happy (went with 10 others last year) In the MDR. We really like the newer, bigger ships, though not for everyone. Looking forward to Excel!

We did the Danube in 2025 on Scenic Luxury Cruises. Also all inclusive, and fantastic. Gems of the Danube, they called it, with Prague (3 days there before starting the cruise in Budapest).

2026 is already planned out, but we’re considering a barge/canal cruise (most likely in France) for 2027. Has anyone done one of those? The websites (and Rick Steves) make it sound fantastic, of course, but I’m hoping to get reviews from real people who have done this.

I've done Celebrity Alaska, Caribbean, Mediterranean, and Baltic Seas. Unfortunately, I don't recall the ship's names. Never was disappointed. I highly recommend looking into a Baltic Sea Cruise.

We’re doing Celebrity Alaska late August this year. Prepaid a few excursions and the premium beverage package, all outrageously priced. Any recommendations regarding WiFi or upgraded dining? The cruise pricing almost has a bait and switch feel to it once you start getting bombarded with their a la carte pricing for all the extras.

Upgraded dining is nice . Don’t recall WiFi situation. I really enjoyed the helicopter ride to the dog sled area that was fun. I was really blessed with a great father-in-law. He paid for all these cruises for the complete family, and put us all in suites for each trip. He wanted to create life long memories for his kids and grandkids. I only have children at this point and no grandchildren. But would someday love to do that same thing if the opportunity presents. We took advantage of hanging out in the launch city which of this case was Seattle for two days prior to leaving. When we did the Baltic cruise, we hung out in toward Amsterdam for three days.

Just curious, did you use your own travel agent or the AMA travel agent. We used AMA travel agent and bought their airfare package. Not the best flight arrangements(long layover at Heathrow on way to Prague) shorter layover on way home. Our upcoming trip flights were not favorable but were able to have them modified leaving from diff airport to get direct flight. Best thing about their airfare package is that it includes transfers so I soon as we pick up our luggage and meet them we never deal with our luggage again(only to id it before they move it from hotel to ship to hotel) until they drop us back off at the airport. Very relaxing, bougie vacation.

Just FYI: Many cruise lines will do the free airport transfers ONLY if you purchase your airfare through them; Scenic does the airport transfers for free regardless. Also, all tips and all alcohol are included in the cruise fare, and you have a choice of three free excursions (most lines only have one) at each stop. Highly recommend Scenic.

We were going through the AAA and the agent was unclear on a lot of things, but really was all over the place with the flights. First time we had used a travel agent in probably 30 years or more and unlikely to ever use one again after our experience.

Is there a section dedicated to Penn State football history? That is what I'm most interested in.

Take the train to Toledo (from Madrid) for a day. Was one our favorite places in Spain.

Also visit Montserrat (from Barcelona).
What is special about these places? Can you get in the water in Costa Brava in June? By the way, thank you for taking the time to provide suggestions, that means everyone who is commenting.

Toledo is an ancient city that’s frozen in time, sort of like Dubrovnik. Towers and walls, all that. Forty minutes from Madrid by train.

Google Montserrat. The Black Madonna is there, it is in the "Serrated Mountains" and the views are amazing.

I’m starting to look at flights and a flight to Athens via Istanbul is cheaper than the first leg to Istanbul, without the connection.

Thanks, I'm planning on Monument Valley. Did you stay when there? If so, any recommendations on lodging that will have a restaurant?
Doing Monument in October… so you tell me when you get back. Have done Sedona…as far as restaurants, Open Range Saloon is the best

$1600 Dulles to Athens (via Istanbul), Athens to Istanbul, Istanbul to Dulles, for Mrs Lion Jim and myself. Turkish Airways. Pleasantly surprised at the rate.

Have a few thoughts on what to do this year.....and hoping to steal other people's ideas ;)

1. Going to Red Rocks in Colorado in June to see Brit Floyd at Red Rocks. Always wanted to go to Red Rocks. Will make it into a M/C trip aw well - rent a MC at Denver Airport and then hit up some good mountain roads in the Rockies.
2. Whenever the PSU/Washington game is scheduled, I am going to go to Seattle for the game. That will leave just Autzen for my Big 10 Road Trips.
3. Planning another M/C trip, probably in August or early Sept to Maine. Will try to get in a round at Sunday River Resort (luckily they rent clubs so I don't have to ship mine).
4. Since I worked through Christmas on a project, will probably look to do some quick trip to Caribbean in late Jan/early Feb.

edit
5. May do a Family Pub Crawl in either NYC or London. Since I have relatives throughout the world either NYC or London would make for a good meeting place for my bougie-*** family. 😏

Whatcha got planned for 2026?
Gardening lounging around the pool and in the Tiki Hut next to the waterfall.

See if they’ll let you in the cockpit. The pilot may ask you, “Have you ever been in an, in an American prison?”

We have sailed on Celebrity in Alaska, the Caribbean and the Mediterranean as well. Modern comfortable ships with great entertainment and great food and restaurant selection. The dance party vibe in the Atrium every evening is a blast and the happy hour entertainment at the bars around the ship is also stellar. The evening show was always entertaining as well.
