They are almost all 1-3 star recruits. Incredible. Only 8 on the entire roster are 4-5 star.I’m not taking anything away from Curt Cignetti, he’s undoubtedly a great coach. But man oh man he has some fantastic players on this team. They destroyed Alabama, they’re destroying Oregon and unless a miracle happens they will destroy Miami. It would be nice to see if he lets up just a bit and takes his starters out of the game.
Perfect storm…a lot of developed three stars and the best QB in the country…that’s not going to happen every year. Portal QB’s don’t always pan out. They are almost all 1-3 star recruits. Incredible. Only 8 on the entire roster are 4-5 star.
Cignetti has the secret sauce as a coach. His players play loose, look well prepared and play at a high level. My comparison would be Cael with our wrestling program.I’m not taking anything away from Curt Cignetti, he’s undoubtedly a great coach. But man oh man he has some fantastic players on this team. LSU played loose when they had Burrow….how’d that pan out for them in the future?Cignetti has the secret sauce as a coach. His players play loose, look well prepared and play at a high level. My comparison would be Cael with our wrestling program.
In the last two playoffs, Oregon was blown out by two old school Big 10 teams and struggled to put away a newbie that played terribly on offense. Lanning hasn’t exactly shown that he’s going to be the next Saban. By the way, even with all of their Nike money, Oregon only has made it to one NC game in recent history and of course was blown out by an old school Big 10 team.lanning is dog sh|t.
I don't understand how you have such a hard time recognizing the amazing transformation of IN football in just two years under Cignetti.Perfect storm…a lot of developed three stars and the best QB in the country…that’s not going to happen every year. Portal QB’s don’t always pan out.

Best QB in the country? Mendoza wasn't even in the top 25 in QBR in 2024. Allar was 19th.
The guy is a great coach -- the second Saban. Give credit where credit is due.

Saban and the SEC elites had the advantage of NIL before NIL was a thing. Once the bag man was neutralized by NIL, things have changed with the portal.I don't understand how you have such a hard time recognizing the amazing transformation of IN football in just two years under Cignetti.

Totally agree, but the same moneybag schools will still be advantaged. Now it comes down to who can be more shrewd with the resources (funding) they have. Indiana has already secured their next starting QB (Josh Hoover, TCU) through the portal, just as OSU has been doing for a while.Saban and the SEC elites had the advantage of NIL before NIL was a thing. Too soon to put him in the same class as Saban. And Joe Burrow was the best QB in the country in his last year, but he wasn’t prior to that. Many QB’s develop on their own with private coaches. Last year’s Indiana team got helped out with a very favorable schedule…this year they got the QB they needed. Next year they may or may not get a great QB….we’ll see. If Cignetti keeps this up for another 10 years or so, then we can call him the next Saban.I don't understand how you have such a hard time recognizing the amazing transformation of IN football in just two years under Cignetti.

You need to let go of your star hang up. He’s getting 23 and 24 year olds in the transfer portal who are already developed….its not like he’s developing them from scrawny 18 year olds.Mendoza " not one 5 star on the team."

Cignetti is way worse than Lanning in that category
As opposed to Mr. Personality Cignetti.
You're right--it's not close--CIgnetti is worse
I never said they didn’t develop him, but that doesn’t mean every QB they work with will turn out the same. This one worked out very well for them, the next may not. It’s risky to go with a new QB every year, but if it works for him, then great.Players that Cig picked and despite the infusion of players from the portal, still the last ranked team in the B1G according to 247 talent composite.
Mendoza wasn't nearly the finished product that he is now; the Indiana staff worked with Mendoza to improve his fundamentals, processing, timing, etc.
Is 2011 recent history? That's the one they lost to Auburn on the last-second FG. There is a trend of the Quacks constantly coming up small on the biggest stages, whether it be postseason or regular season. In the last two playoffs, Oregon was blown out by two old school Big 10 teams and struggled to put away a newbie that played terribly on offense.
