Cignetti was a WVU QB from 1979 to 1982. Wherever he goes, he wins, and is only getting better. Funny how JMU hired him after he ended their historic win streak. His coaching career spans:

1983–1984 Pittsburgh (GA)
1985 Davidson (QB/WR)
1986–1988 Rice (QB)
1989–1992 Temple (QB)
1993–1999 Pittsburgh (QB/TE)
2000–2006 NC State (QB/TE/RC)
2007–2011 Alabama (WR/RC, under Nick Saban)
2011–2016 IUP (HC,53–17)
2017–2018 Elon (HC,14-9, historic win @ JMU)
2019–2023 James Madison (HC,52–9)
2024–present Indiana (HC, 25–2)

He's a winner. Pure and simple.
Many coaches are winners, but none of them go to one of the worst programs in history and turns them into the best team in the country in the second year…..and it would be dumb for fans of other teams to expect the same kind of results.

If true, the stat i heard that the AVERAGE age of the IU player is 23 is the reason. The difference in maturity and intelligence between, say 20 and 23, is a mountainous difference

This game is just about over, unless the entire Indiana team comes down with the flu at halftime.

If that’s his secret, then there will years that it doesn’t work, so it may be tough to maintain consistency.

I'm not in any way saying that this can happen regularly - quite the opposite. Cignetti is a rare find and a unique coach. There are many coaches who can manage a winning record, but can't reach the next level.

I tried to peek at the Oregon board, but apparently you need to be a paid subscriber to view.

They have to be apoplectic.

True, but the mantra of every mid level team is going to be “well, Indiana can do it”. Coaches will get fired twice as fast as they ever had.
