There are plenty of examples of kids growing/developing after they enter college. Many times these kids have better fundamentals than the 4 and 5 stars who often get their ratings because of their early physical maturity.
Many of those guys play in the MAC rather than in FCS. Maybe the MAC guys are too expensive now, I don't know.

I will say it's promising that the staff is targeting G5 players.

As mentioned in another thread, Ozick is from Liberty, MO the same town as Bennett Stirtz. (Kansas City suburb, but appears they went to the same High School)

So there might be some minor connection there(?). Stirtz a couple of years older, but gotta assume Ozick is well aware of who Stirtz is. Roger Stirtz was also the BB Coach at Liberty, not sure if he still is.........

Been more miss than hit on the lower division guys.
Gronowski, Wetjen , Hawthorn, Feth , Large all produced and contributed , I cannot really think of many busts, the Tackle a couple Years ago and George both due to injuries, What other washouts compared to the successes including an All American are You thinking of that were absolute busts?

MG I’ll give you but he wasn’t exactly a diamond in the rough. Wetjen walked on from a Juco, they didn’t exactly portal pay for him. Hawthorne I’ll give you but still has things to prove imo. Feth was a part time starter but not hardly an impact player. Same with Large.

Id classify Parker, George, Borud, Barrios, Anderson, Phillips as all as busts.

Zach VanValkenburg came from Hillsdale College and had a nice run. We did have the DB, Williams, from UNI that rarely played a few years ago, this year, Barros from South Dakota.

totally random but what was the Buie (WR) injury this year? Seemed like he flashed a few times in the 24 season, maybe a good starter kit this fall at WR with RVZ, Howard, Buie, Smith, etc.

I think Tony Diaz (WR) visited a couple days ago but I haven't heard any news about how his visit went.
Looks like he is also visiting Illanoy and Kentucky.

South Dakota's AA RB Phillips is visiting this Week, 5'9 225 , Fred Russell on HGH type build, Man talk about hard to tackle
Over 1900 yards rushing this past season. Averaged 6.2 yards per carry running between the tackles. Sounds like he has a quick burst. Probably not a game breaker but certainly a first down getter.

Fred Russell is a pretty good comparison. Compact frame with an efficient stride. IMO Phillips is stronger than Russell, Fred was a bit more elusive, Phillips can get that extra YAC.

Freddy was also probably faster, he could scoot. Didn't hurt that he had the best OL in Iowa football history blocking for him either.
