    Ball hitting the rubber and then ball going into foul territory is a foul ball. It happened years ago in a Toms River South state playoff game.     He could still redshirt as you can redshirt in any year not just as a freshman. But he did play so has used a year of eligibility. You have 5 years to play in 4 unless there is a medical condition. Most use redshirt as freshman but you can use it later.
